Loved the island....not the resort.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/17/09
I believe the place was a real disappointment on so many levels. Beginning with the Twin sized beds in the double occupancy rooms! I mean Twin, really? Also, the lack of food when desired. Never been to a resort when one is only offered food at meal times. (i.e. no midnight or 4 a.m. snack, incosistent food on the beach) No activities staff for volley ball, soccer or other sports/drinking games) All in all, while I loved the Island of Barbados, I'd never return to Turtle Beach!

Stress buster!
By Brenda, 7/23/07
I'm a local who knows about restaurants and hotels. We have been to Turtle Beach Resort on 2 occasions, and are planning to make it our permanent hotel get-a-way. One thing that my husband and I, alike, look for is service - excellent service - which is what makes us feel comely. Being pampered, i.e. by not having to make up your bed on mornings, enjoying a FULL breakfast (you can't afford to not eat b/fast at this hotel!), afternoon tea and of course, buffet dinner at the Chelonia Restaurant. The pool and jacuzzi were always clean, which is something that surprised me, given the amount of time I noticed people using the pool. At the waterfront Restaurant, you can drink as much as you would like, given the fact that it can be quite hot and humid, and being so close to the ocean, you would naturally feel the need to quench your thirst. For all those with bad reviews, don't worry. Not even the 5-star hotels are perfect. Even there you would find something that wasnt up to standard, and you know what, you gotta pay the price for EVERYTHING. So, to the Turtle Beach management and staff, keep up the good service!

A bit pricey at times but superb holiday
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/29/07
Depending on when you go thsi hotel can be quite pricey. We have been 5 times and are coming back for a 6th in a few weeks. What you want in the Carribean and especially Barbados, this hotel delivers. Stress free, slow paced life, with great friendly staff, clean and comfortable accomodation, great food and lots of sun. If you want to spend your vacation on your mobile phone or listen to a boom box blaring don't go or shoudl i say don't come in case you intend to be there at teh same time as me. If though you wish to relax, chill out and be pampered without being pestered, this is the place. Ditch the cell phone, the stress, the laptop and come and relax.

vacation in paradise
By Suzy, 1/29/07
We had a great time! We were surprised at how close we were to the St. Lawrence Gap and how cute it was. The Gap is a great place to shop and mingle with the natives and other tourists. The club scene was great and everything was in walking distance of our hotel. The beach was very pretty, but choppy everyday. We always had a red flag telling us we couldn't go into the ocean, next time we will go the the west coast. The pools were nice and we enjoyed shopping and walking on the beach - but there are no shells only coral unless you scuba for them. The restaurants were enjoyable and all open air. Some nights it was just TOO hot and humid to sit there and we had to leave (you also have the option to dine in the A/C room). The italian restaurant keeps the same menu for a couple of days and it is the hardest to get your nightly reservation for - so reserve early. All menus are posted daily. They serve high tea - but not iced tea - so if you are from the NE USA - be prepared!! The staff was lovely - and all in all we had a good time. The management has really been able to get a staff that wants you to have a great time - and we did!

What a surprise!!
By phillip, 8/2/06
Ok, i was worried after some of the reviews i read about the Turtle Beach hotel, about the food not been up to much, about the slow service, the hotel not been up to the four star rating and it been situated in the slums of Barbados. I'll start with the hotel itself, i do have high standards and would not rate the whole of the hotel as a four star. The entrance and foyer are fantastic but the rooms could do with a little updating, still clean and very livable. The bathroom clean but basic. The lifts and corridors were being painted when we were there, so the hotel is tidying itself up. The pool areas are clean and well equiped with sun beds, although not much shade around the pool, but plenty on the beach with overhead shade available on most beds. The jacuzzi is a good size but sometimes like a hot bath so be careful if you are slightly burnt. Everywhere is cleaned regular. I was concerned about the food but i shouldn't have been, with three restaurants to choose from you have a good choice. Asagios is an Italian restaurant, not once did i have a poor meal and the service was fantastic. The Waterfront is by the sea...hence the name, food is not bad in here and usually lunch is served here...one moan...lunch is basically the same each day, but you do have a decent mixture of food. Chelonia is the second main restaurant and serves either a buffet or A la Carte, very nice most of the time but if staffing is limited you may wait a while for your food and receive it cool. You have to book for whatever restaurant you want to eat in. The good thing about this hotel is the alternative food for kids ie chips, pizza, fish fingers etc. You can have room service for breakfast and evening meals which is fantastic if you have kids who want to stay in their room. Breakfast is worth getting up for and is served until 10.30am. You have a choice from full english to cereal of your choice. One bit of advice i will offer, if you like to sunbathe on the beach, be aware of the sand flies. They will have a field day with you. Move your bed to beside the edge of the sea, this will reduce the bites considerably. The staff are the best i have come across in a hotel. Maradonna and Tyson walk along the beach with soft drinks or alcoholic if that's what you want. They bring fruit and hand towels that have been frozen, what a relief from the heat. If you want ice cream or an ice lolly just ask they will get it for you, nothing is a bother. Last but not least is Hyacinth, she works as the hotel's Client Liason manager. She is one of the nicest people i have met, i contacted her before we travelled to ask for a room on the top floor. She got back to me and arranged a room with a fantastic view of the pool and sea. Nothing is too much for her, if you have any issues just ask for her and she will sort it out. Dianne and Sofia will make your stay worth while, they both serve you food and nothing is a bother. Enough said, go and enjoy, because if i had listened to some of the bad reviews i read about this hotel then i would have wanted to cancel.

Fantastic family friendly hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/13/06
Turtle Beach Resort is a beautiful hotel. The staff will do anything for you - bear in mind though everything is at a far slower pace than in England! The food is overall excellent starting with a huge hot and cold buffet with a selection of foods to satisfy any taste. Lunches - either by the poolside or in the open air restaurant - a little more formal offers an excellent choice including a barbeque. Evening meals are wonderful - you will be completely spoilt for choice. The Asiagos restaurant is exceptional and a must during your visit. The children are made more than welcome and the hotel has a fab kids club. The only thing I can say that is towards the negative side is the beach at the hotel is very narrow and the sea is rough - if you walk up the beach for a couple of minutes however, the sea is a little calmer. There is a wonderful constant gentle breeze. A wonderful holiday experience. This next trip will bes our third visit and we just cannot wait! You will truely love it.

A Place to to back to...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/19/05
This place was wonderful..Located a few minutes from everything. When we got there we were bought to the lobby that overlooks the open air dinning room. Except for the main dinning room the service was wonderful. The food was excellent except for the lamb. The rooms were just rooms, but they were clean and confortable. Great views, breath taking sunsets and sunrises. Everyone was helpful, the beach was great and everyone on it, even the people that sold interesting items on the beach were very nice, and fun to talk to. Barbados is a beaufiful Island I would go back tomorrow.
