Wonderful place to relax!
By ,
I have stayed at this unique hotel/motel on several occassions....the family is vey charming, friendly and helpful. The accommodations may not be the fanciest but they are very clean, cozy and comfortable. The food is really really good... the landscaping is very nice and tropically. If you are looking for peacefulness, comfort and serenity, this is the place to go to . the buses will take you downtown or anywhere you want to for a buck and taxis are always nearby. the location is very good.............. My wife and I had a wonderful time at the casuarinas hotel and we will definitely be returning again. At the casuarinas hotel we took a tour of their latest additon, the museum of artifacts used by the people way back when and the back yard tour which depicted life as it was way back then.....it is amazing what this family has done to restore the heritage and culture of their bahamian people. If you are looking for fancy, tons of people, this is not the place for you! Perez in New York

Very Friendly
By ,
I have stayed here 3 times and enjoyed it every time. It is not close to town so it is nicely secluded. The staff are all friendly, the food is down to earth NOT American and very tasty. It is a welcome repast from the insanity of Washington DC. If you want peace and quiet and kind, helpful people stay here. If you want all the ameneties of the fast paced city do not. The beach is not much to speak of but the pool is very clean and has a lovely sun deck.

Stay ANYWHERE But Here
By ,
Service: Such a thing does not exist at this hotel. Cleanliness: The room was rather clean for Bahamas standards, which are pretty low to begin with. Location: It took us about twenty minutes until a taxi finally picked us up to go downtown. It's on a part of the island that is quite deserted, especially at night. The person who worked there wouldn't call us a cab. Value: (read my little story below) A group of eight of us went on Spring Break in 2004 to the Bahamas with one of those spring break travel agencies (STS Travel--do not use them, they were terrible). They overbooked our original hotel, the Nassau Beach Hotel on Cable Beach and shipped us off to this dump. So, we didn't have to pay anything for the room. The room was dimly lit, the bathroom had no hot water, everything's grimy, etc. The place is a means to an end--it's just a place to stay. there are really no amenities to speak of. For those that stay there long-term, the hotel is not on the beach and I don't think any rooms would have a view of the water since it is across the street. There's also a deserted former hotel across the street, which blocks the view anyway. On the positive side, I didn't see any cockroaches and the lady who saw us off the next morning was very pleasant to us, and very politely implored us to stop by for dinner some time--thanks, but no thanks. It was a good thing that our first night was our last night at the Casuarinas.

Don't stay there
By ,
The Casuarinas is by far the worst hotel Ive ever been to. It nearly ruined my vacation. Be aware that they have no problems with false advertisement as we were promised many things before we got there that were non-existent. I paid extra for an ocean view but I soon realized that there was no view of the ocean from any point in the hotel. There was supposed to be two pools, but upon arrival we realized that there was only one very small, dirty with chipped pain, poor excuse for a pool. The room was dirty, i.e. lipstick stains on the pillow, the toilet couldnt flush and although I specifically requested to be in a room with a fridge and microwave I was told that I would get them only if they were able to find one somewhere, maybe tomorrow, or the day after that. At night, cabs stop going there and so my friends and I literally had to trick another hotel into sending us a cab by saying we were stranded at the Casuarinas. The staff, when available, was very nonchalant about our various grievances. After one night, thinking that everywhere else was booked, we considered cutting our trip short and leaving the Bahamas. Luckily, there was a cancellation at another hotel and we promptly, that is after waiting for the lady at the front desk who was nowhere to be found, left. It is definitely not worth the money, if you plan in advance you can stay somewhere nicer for cheaper, if you wait last minute, youd be better off paying extra for a decent place. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone unless everywhere else is booked, and even then I'd rather just go to another country.

Casuarinas Nightmare!
By ,
I am almost ashamed to admit that I've experienced the horror of staying a single night at the Casuarinas Hotel. My friends and I were deceived by the description posted by the Casuarinas and were virtually tricked into staying there. To say the least it was the absolute worst hotel I've ever been to in my entire existence! To begin with there was nothing charming, relaxing, or delightful about this hotel as stated in its description. There was also just one dirty pool unlike the two promised in their list of amenities. My air conditioner didnt work. My bathroom toilet wouldnt flush and although we distinctly requested a fridge and microwave for our rooms there were none when we got there. The promised action and excitement close by the hotel was also a hoax. After about 10pm all cabs stopped running by the hotel therefore there was literally no way for us to escape the dreadfulness of our hotel rooms. It goes without say that the morning after our first, last and only night at the Casuarinas my friends and I went franticly trying to find another hotel to stay at. Of course we were charged for all of these local calls, but it was money well spent. First thing in the morning we got ready to check out, only there was no one at the front desk until about 10 am so we had to wait 2 hours in the lobby to even leave the place. Once we finally left however and checked into the Wyndham Crystal Palace Resort my trip to the Bahamas was absolutely magnificent! So for all those thinking of taking a trip to the Bahamas, please take my experience as a lesson. The Bahamas is a great place to be. Dont let places like the Casuarinas ruin such an experience. As for me, Im permanently scarred by my one night stay at the Casuarinas. However Ive done my best to forget I ever heard of such a place and after writing this review the Casuarinas will forever remain, among my friends and I, that place we do not speak of.

Not up to the reviews we had read
By ,
After one night here my wife insisted that we change hotels. I had hoped it was a secluded hotel with a small beach. Thanks to the hurricanes the beach was off limits (Dec. 2004) the place had a smell like wet cement. The hotel is isolated and since the beach was off limits it meant we had to go find another beach. Without a car this isn't a very convienient option in Nassau. The people were very nice however and I suspect once they get the place back in shape it will be worth the price, meantime there are a lot better options.
