Beware of rooms shown on website
By ,
The rooms on the website are not the rooms you will get. The rooms are very outdated, comparable to Best Western in the 1970's. The beds are very hard and uncomfortable. The staff is very friendly, it is in a good location and very safe place to stay. The rooms are hot and beds are uncomfortable. In general Mazatlan does not have a lot to do other than beach, very few tours unlike other parts of Mexico. You are harrassed by timeshare marketers on every corner and in every restaurant. Don't think the manager is being friendly when he comes to talk to you, ask about the food, your travels, where your from, or even when he sends you a free drink to your table, he is going to hit you with looking a timeshares!!!! This is the worst timeshare area that I have ever seen. Just tell them you have already looked or you are leaving the next day and they will leave you alone otherwise they don't take no for an answer. The view from the hotel is beautiful.

Fine for price
By ,
This was the first place we went in Mexico... the rooms are a bit out dated but fine if just two of you( not sure if kids would like). Beach is the best part... pools are fine, but old and square etc... Try some of the newer places in Neuvo Vallarta for some really top notch Mexico ( Sea Garden , Paradice Villiage). Just a thought... but would stay there againif in Maxatlan.

Would definitely recommend to a friend!
By ,
We had a great stay at Hotel Playa Mazatlan. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. They had a great pool (although surrounded by screaming children) and the beach atmosphere was lovely. There are plenty of mock-cabanas with not-so-comfortable lounge chairs, but all is quickly forgiven when you see the breathtaking view! The hotel restaurant had great (and affordable) drinks and food. The drink service to the beach was awesome as well! Our room was very comfortable, and when I say comfortable, what I mean is everything but the beds were comfortable. The room was very clean, the shower tended to overflow the bathroom floor quite a bit, but nothing extra towels couldn't fix. The hotel is located near plenty of night spots and great restaurants. Definitely a great price for great accomodations.

Stay here all the time
By ,
We've gone to Mexico several times in the last 15-20 years and we love this hotel. It's situated right on the beach, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The first time we went, we were placed in a room that was next to Joe's Oyster Bar and the noise (not to mention the late-night drunks) were very annoying, but they quickly moved us to a better room. The staff remembers us each time we go there, and have enjoyed watching our son grow up! It's constantly being cleaned because of the sand being traipsed in by guests, which I very much appreciate. One helpful hint: don't go during spring break or Mardi Gras if you want to have a peaceful stay and avoid the drunks. Those weeks seem to be Party Central.

Noisy!
By ,
Stayed for a week a couple of years ago. Much of my visit was unpleasant, due to significant lack of sleep. When next door neighbors came home (often at 2:00 in the morning), they may as well have been inside OUR room. I had to get up, open our door and ask them to move INside their room. Even after that, we continued to hear their conversations, etc. from their adjacent rooms. You can hear every door open, every flush of the neighbor's toilet, etc. We could also hear (couldn't get away from the noise of) other (non-adjacent) guests, since the windows, door and walls offer virtually no sound insulation. Lastly, the noise of the beach-side disco, about a half-mile to the south, pounded into our room until ~4:00 in the morning. Touching the inside of our window, you could FEEL the vibration from the disco. I could actually understand what the DJ at that disco was calling out to their patrons, it was so loud! When we inquired about rooms with a different orientation, we were told that the only ones available were on the ground floor, facing the same courtyard our upper unit faced. We were advised that changing to one of those rooms was not recommended . . . because the noise from upstairs guests was known to be disturbing to those below! My recollection of my week in Mazatlan is vague and unpleasant - and that all resulted from being progressively less rested as each day passed. I would not recommend the hotel.

Always a refreshing getaway....
By ,
What a getaway should be! Right in the heart of the Zona..Playa Mazatlan shines like a beacon in all it's convinence, history and service. Spend your entire getaway within the confines of La Playa or walk outside in any direction for an unforgetable experience.

accessibility of hotel
By ,
We recently returned from Mazatlan and really enjoyed the hotel. It is in a very good location: close to the boardwalk and nearby small shops. The room was large although slightly outdated and I have to agree the beds are very firm. We had a spectacular veranda on the beach (worth the extra) and could watch the sunset every night. The beach area has seperate location to sunbath in so the local vendors cannot harasse you all the time. The hotel grounds are wheelchair accessible including restaurants and the common areas except for the pool bar, exercise room and table tennis area. The beach is not accessible unless you can ambulate short distances or crawl, but you are right on the beach. It was never a problem to get a waiter if you needed a refreshment.. The room was large enough to easily accommodate a wheelchair. I could easily get into the bathroom but there are no grab bars around the toilet. The bathroom in the junior suite has only a large shower but a smaller door and a small lip. It can be negotiated in a normal sized chair. I ended up using a beach chair in the shower. Accessible bathroom in the pool area was available. All in all it was a good hotel for someone in a wheelchair. The hotel location is easily in pushing distance to many shops and restaurants. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Say hi to Josephina if you go. She has been there for 40 years.

We love the Playa Mazatlan
By ,
We have been going to Mazatlan since 1960, and except for a couple of times (when we couldn't get rooms at the Playa) have stayed at the Playa Mazatlan. We love the music, the floor show with the local talent, and the staff at the Playa, who remember us from year to year. We also love the location, the beech is beautiful and the dining areas are so that you can enjoy the beech while dining. The food, however, could stand a little perking up, the menu hasn't changed in all these years. The location is also so that you can go to almost anywhere in Mazatlan in just a short amount of time, and the taxi service is excellent. Over all, we still love this unique resort and intend to go back often. thanks Margaret & Brooks Daley
