Marsol Hotel, Emiliano Zapata

Liked because it's in the area where the tourists come from their hi-priced hotels, and it's economical, and it's on the beach, and while (when I was there) few staff spoke English, they tried and they were always cordial. The cleaning lady was in every day. Only minor complaint: tile floors deadly slippery when coming out of shower. For me, visiting Mexico is visiting Mexico - not visiting America in Mexico. I'd go back.

The hotel has not very well cared for but has improved over the last few years. The prices have gone up but that represents the change in government in Mexico (Fox era)and the increased costs of businesses to provide a better wage and benefits to the employees. The Marsol lacks many of the amenities many travellers want, but if you just want a great location on the beach and a wonderful view take a chance and stay here. Get a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The great lobby is a fun place to spend some time. The beach vendors congregate here in the afternoon to get out of the heat; so it is possible to get some very good deals on silver and such. If you are adventurous stay at the Marsol. By the way---there is a large fridge in the lobby with very cheap beer!!!

As a frequent Latin American traveler, I expected to find a sparse but decently clean budget hotel on the beach. This was not the case. While the location was good, this hotel fulfilled every bad stereotype of Mexico--cockroaches in the room, sporatic hot water, one day NO water at all, and a rude staff that doubled the prices from what had been earlier quoted to us via phone. When protesting the price/room sitution with management, we were verbally harassed. The manager even grabbed my arm. This was frightening as two female travelers. I strongly recommend finding another budget hotel in the area--Hotel Tropicana, Los Arcos, Lily, etc. Stay away from Marsol!

Great place !! Very Mexican. Nostalgic atmosphere. Great balcony view right on the beach with kitchenette. Great location. Way laid back.
