not a dream, just a headache
By JG, 4/8/09
I would not recommend the Dreams Hotel at all. My family and I took a cruise with Carnival and planned to use the facilities of a hotel in Puerto Vallarta. We went to the Presidencia Municipal(Civic Center), the office of tourism, located at the main plaza(plaza principal) and my wife obtained hotel information for the best and the cheapest day pass. The representative recommended Dreams because of its beach, and clean hotel as the best baragain at $35 per person. We were a group of 4 adults and 3 children. Gregorio, the Chief Concierge (he kind of looks like Jabba the Hutt) was rude, arrogant and had no customer service skills. He charged us $55 per adult and never told us that food and drinks were included and only said that we could use the facilities; which were not those of a 5 star hotel. The pool was not very clean, there were no waiters coming around to see if we needed a drink and there was a very limited amount of lounging chairs. The activity staff was hospitable though. We would not recommend this hotel to anybody looking to have a good time for only a day in Puerto Vallarta! Do not buy the Dreams Day Pass! It’s a total rip-off!

Dreams is a nightmare
By Renee, 2/1/07
My friends and I (9 couples) have been going to the Camino Real - now Dreams - for 20 years during which time it was owned by several different entities. We no longer come here because we're not interested in all-inclusives - there are hundreds of restaurants in town - it's ridiculous to eat on the premises. However, if we just wanted to visit the hotel and have lunch or just some drinks, because we know all the staff from all these years - we couldn't because .... they charge $50 just to set foot in the lobby!!!! I have never heard of anything like this this - it's so offensive. Furthermore, they have encircled the property with heavy gauge chicken wire so that you cannot even access the FEDERALLY OWNED PUBLIC BEACH where we always went to visit the tortoise refuge. I can't believe that they're getting away with denying access to a public beach. Needless to say, we are staying in another lovely hotel so we're very happy but I think that people may want to know how the Dreams management has mis-treated loyal customers for over 20 years - although they had all our email addresses, they never bothered to send an announcement of the management change to guests like us who literally made the Camino Real our second home. Some customer service!

rip-off
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/07
bought into jr jacuzzi suite (small jacuzzi in bath-woohoo!) was sold into uprading to penthhouse suite with small pool on deck. it took them 3 days to get heat working in pool! i am in real estate management in los angeles and i have usually been stunned by xclnt maintenance at pv resorts. maintenance at dreams was c- to d+ at best. i caught skin infection in swim up bar. treatment by concierge/front desk/upper management when problems were reported was indifferent at best-hostile at worst. food service personnel were great, as were spa personnel. they just needed different hotel to be at. this old dog is long in the tooth, and current ownership/management are not investing in necessary maintenance. got stuck in elevator 1x. i have vacationed in pv maybe 20 times, at half dozen resorts over the last 15 years. this was worst experience-ever. will not return, will refer only to enemies. dan

Buyer Beware!!!
By chris, 1/31/09
What they say and what you get are two different things. All smiles when you arrive but when an issue arrives no one wants to deal with you. Deluxe rooms are equal to a regular standard hotel room, nothing "deluxe" about them. Glasses are dirty, pool water is disgusting and drink quality is low. The staff is friendly and does try hard however management drops the ball. Internet service is expensive and spotty, food quality is OK but be careful about seafood sitting outside for long periods of time. The beach is nice however it is really not great for swimming, pounding waves, and lots of stingrays. Take a cruise - way better value!

Shocked! Thought It was suppose to be 5 stars
By LisaM, 8/6/08
My hunband and I went for our 5th anniversary. Arrived there on July 26, '08 and I was shocked...not at all what I saw on the internet. When we got there and was checking in the counter guy started haggling with us about our room. Said for an extra $70.00 a night we could stay on the 10th (20th in new tower) floor but otherwise we would have to stay on the 5th. My husband decided to look at the rooms he was talking about before he made that decision. When we got to the 5th floor room they were painting the furniture! So, I felt like we had no choice..so, we decided to take the 10th floor room along with the extra charge! I was really upset by this. But, my husband had never gone to an all-inclusive and had no idea what a five star was suppose to look like. And to me it was far from that. The rooms were clean I guess the food was good but the pools were lacking. The swim up bar should have been at the adult pool not the family pool I think. They needed more chairs at the adult pool also. Watch out for those people that come down before dawn and save their lounge chairs while they go eat breakfast, go down to the beach or go to town even and then come back to claim their spot! This was wrong, I watched several lounge chairs stay empty most of the day from people doing that. I was actually confronted by a lady that wanted to know who moved her book! And I told her I did because I had been watching that chair for the last 3-4 hours no one showed up. She wasn't happy but! PEOPLE don't do that...the space is limited anyways. The best time we had was in town that Tuesday night! A great place to hang out and get a BUD-LIGHT is at the No Name Bar and Grill! Great food and Great people working there. I'm hoping all Dream Resorts aren't this disappointing because next year we were thinking about Dreams in Cabbo. Don't think we would stay here again. Sorry. Would I recommend this resort to a friend, no. Not worth the money we paid and then to be haggled for more...

slow...
By vince w, 1/10/06
Me and nine other family members just got back from Dreams resort. The location was very good because downtown was only 5 minutes away and you had a private beach for the most part. The food at every one of the restaurants was cold when it came out and wasnt that great. The room service had a little bit better food but still not great. The best food coincidentaly was when i was on a dune buggy tour like 2 hours outside of P.V. The beds were also as hard as a rock. My body hurt every day when I woke up. The drinks also were pretty bad. I probably wont ever stay at an all-inclusive hotel again. The extra money wasnt worth it since I had to go to town to get a decent meal. At Oceania (one of the restaurants) we waited 45 minutes for 2 split tables of 5. After that we waited 20 minutes for our server to greet us and then the food took over an hour to get to us. I would never stay here again.

MY DREAMS EXPERIENCE
We stayed at the Dreams-Puerto Vallarta property Aug. 9-14, 2005. Although the resort property itself is nice and from what we saw well maintained. Our room was spacious and clean. (if you tip the maid daily, your room is given EXTRA attention and they go out of their way to please you) The staff for the most part is courteous and helpful, however the following areas needs much improvement. 1)Their scheduled nightly activities are always canceled due to a very light rain sprinkle, which seemed to occur every single night. It only lasted 3-5 minutes, but the entertainment packed up and did not move it to the ballroom as always stated in case of rain. After the second event was cut short, we realized this was just a tactic to end their work day early. They even advertised entertainment that never occurred. 2) The world cafe (primary eating venue) is nice and the waite staff was very attentive-especially if you tipped, however, they need to practice better sanitation-bees-flys tasted uncovered food continusouly. Also we noticed that the first two days of our stay, the World Cafe offered much variety-after that the selection was very skimpy. (very limited variety) Also note, that the Cafe will close for dinner whenever they decide. We were of the impression from all advertisement that they would always be open---not true. They closed one night without advance notice, leaving one restaurant open if you wanted to dine after 6:00 PM. At the Patio (Mexican restaurant) we encountered a particular hostess by a young woman needs additional training. She tried her best to encourage us to order room service rather than dine in the restaurant. Her reason was that it was full-but we could look around and see many empty tables. Being the persistent person that I am, I left and returned and was then seated by someone else and enjoyed dinner. I asked other staff what time did they close and was told at 11:00 PM. (it was approximately 9:30 PM when I tried to dine there initially) I then found this Erika to ask why she told me they were closing, and she said there were 12 reservations ahead of me, again I did not see but 1-2 at the most couples in line. In my opinion this was another ploy to end the work day early. 3) As you know when you are checking out, you are focused on leaving and may be in a bit of a hurry. The person who checked me out said I had one charge on my bill, which I agreed to. It was for one spa visit and the charge was 700 Pesos, at that time $70.00, however, I paid him in cash and he charged me $73.00 US dollars. I felt that he overcharged me $3.00, but I didnt question. I thought that was underhanded, but what the heck-I dont plan on staying at the Puerto Vallarta Dreams Resort ever again. 4) The Concierge who worked during the time we stayed there was not the friendless person. He appeared to dislike his job---(maybe it is time for a change, training refresher, or better yet to RETIRE) There were 4 in our party, and we all agreed if we had to rate our overall experienceit would rate out a C-. I believe their are better resorts in the Puerto Vallarta area and should I ever return, I will try a different one. In closing, keep my comments in mind and carefully evaluate whats important for you to have an enjoyable vacation experience, carefully examine amount for charges on bill upon check out, and go from there.

We were not very impressed with Dreams
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/07
We just got back yesterday from Dreams. We will not go back. The hotel needs upgrade very badly. Our room was very old with many chips on the bathromm door and the bathroom was very small. No internet available in the room, you have to go downstair to a small tiny business room that has only 4 computers for the whole resort. It is more like a 3 star hotel than a 5 star as they claimed.

We will not go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/06
After you get there and wait an hour in a half for your room that is not ready, you come to find out that half of the long list that you were told you were going to get are not in your room. The so-called mini bar consists of soda, juice boxes and water - oh and 2 splits of beer. The robes were not in the room and the marble floor was soaking wet. The adult poolside bar is always closed and it is so tuff to find anyone to get you a drink. The beach was beautiful but not private - there were so many men selling items that we got up and went to our room just not to be bothered anymore. After 2 days of being at the hotel we finally tasted what it is like to be totally ignored while wanting to dine. The wait staff, most of the time was great - but try to complain and you get told that you can write your comments at departure! Truly not a 5 star resort and needs many many items to upgrade!
