Avoid the Fairmont Acapulco
My daughter, son, and I spent three nights over a November weekend at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess. The Fairmont is on an attractive, but crowded beach minutes away from the airport, but a lengthy and expensive taxi drive away from downtown.
If you are familiar with the high standards of service at Fairmont hotels you will be disappointed with the Fairmont Acapulco Princess. The service is typical for Mexican hotels with high charges for everything, frequent requests for tips, and indifferent service at the front desk.
By far the biggest surprise, however, is a policy, not stated at reservation, that no food or drink may be brought in from outside the hotel for "hygenic reasons." The result is that rather than being able to buy a case of water at the Walmart across the street from the hotel to keep the kids hydrated, you will be coerced into paying extortionate prices for bottled water. Build this into the budget for your stay, or, better yet, stay at one of many other Acapulco hotels that does not have this policy.
