Overpriced rates for average hotel accomodations
By dstreib, 4/18/11
I've stayed at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth many times when visiting Montreal. Even though the premises were somewhat dated, and there were always a lot of bus tours and/or conventioneers staying - the price was reasonable for a 3.5 star hotel. The rooms are clean and the service is good. This past year, the room rates have increased past $200 Canadian. With the American dollar being at par now, it is no longer a good deal to stay here. There are much better hotels nearby with the same room rates.

A grand olde-world elegance
By True Brother, 10/9/10
On the outside, this is an ugly brown slab with an unpleasant entrance. Inside,The Queen Elizabeth Fairmont is a lovely, gracious and elegant hotel with over half-a-century of excellent service. From the spacious old-fashioned lobby to the wonderful elderly serving-staff in the quaint restuarant, the whole place exudes the warmth, welcome and hospitality of a bygone era. I loved it. The best part of The Queen Elizabeth Fairmont is that the original architecture and many pieces of the original furniture have been carefully preserved and cherished. the location is also extremely convenient, with direct access below to the train-station and Montreal's famed Underground City. C'est Magnifique!

extremely disappointed
By kibblett, 8/31/08
after having stayed at Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda, we could not wait to stay at another Fairmont. were not advised until we got there (after 7 hr. drive, car parked in garage and all luggage carried up ourselves to check-in) that hotel employees were threatening to strike. we were given the option of finding another hotel on our own but chose to stay because we were told that the situation had been ongoing since mid-July with no employee walk-out as yet. we were then advised that 1 of our 2 rooms was not ready (it was already after 5 p.m.) but that $50 would be taken off the bill for that nite. the following day our rooms were not cleaned until after 5 p.m., the coffee creamers were curdled in one room, there were no glasses or coffee cups left after cleaning and the tub in one room did not drain so that the water was mid-calf level at the end of your shower. we were also charged in error for a room snack that was never taken from the provided supply. there were no bell boys or doormen until our last of 4 days there. at check-out we mentioned all of the above and were given $50 off one room for one nite. we were also told that we had been given the option of not staying there and being sent to a "sister" hotel which was not the case. on the positive side, the hotel is very central and you can walk just about everywhere. the food at the bistro (breakfast smorg) was very good although pricey for breakfast. we are hoping this was an isolated problem for the Fairmont, but at this time we would not recommend this particular hotel to others.

Will never return
By Gina, 8/10/08
I like it whenever I left the hotel and went sightseeing. It was a bad experience. No I would not recommend to my worst enemy. No the stay should have been free since they rooms were not clean, pool and restaurants were also closed.Furthermore, the hot tub was close and I had to pay for cab rides to outside restaurants that serve food that were not eatable..

leader of the pack
By Alberto, 3/13/08
I spent my honeymoon at The Queen Elizabeth. The service and treatment was something that words cannot really relay. They knew that it was our anniversary and the attention to little details was incredible. Our stay at the property MADE our honeymoon as special as it was. We stayed on the Gold Floor. If you have do not mind paying a bit more and it is a special occation, pay it! The staff and service is well worth it. My wife and I thank the great staff of this landmark hotel. P.S.--Check out the fantastic cathedral next door. We caught an afternoon mass. It was in French, but still you really can feel the incredible energy!

A wonderful stay
By George, 10/11/07
Our experience at the Queen Elizabeth was nothing short of perfect. Staff was extremely helpful, the rooms were both quiet and clean, and concierge staff was great at assisting us with tour and theatre arrangements. Look forward to staying here again.

Queen Liz is in the heart of it all...
By Ryan, 8/21/07
I stay at this hotel every November for a school trip. This hotel makes you forget you are in Montreal in November; its warmth, sophistication, and style makes the Fairmont experience wonderful. Montreal's underground city begins right under the hotel. The hotel is all Five Star and service is fantastic.

Ideal for the meetings I attended
By Herbert, 4/29/07
This hotel has a "convention floor" between the room floors and the entrance lobby. This worked very well for our group, numbering about 300. The food service was imaginative and very efficient. The rooms was spacious and comfortable, the shower worked well, the internet connection cost 15.95$ for 24 hours. Parking was 24$ daily, a bit steep. Outstanding hotel.

Try to avoid - it is a gamble
By Anonymous, 3/13/07
The hotel itself enyoys a good reputation but an amateur management seems to be just cashing in on. There are plenty of other good hotels downtown Montreal. We were given a room in poor conditions where we were dissturbed all nite by drunks partying in the corridor. The management did nothing to help us when reported the problem. We were actually told it was not, in fact, their fault, as this was a busy weekend, and given the fact that the hotel had a lot of corridors with over 20 stories, it was accordingly difficult to monitor the property properly, and that I should call the front desk next time I was disturbed in the middle of the night. When we complained about our overall experience at the check-out, the front desk attendant offered us a free night stay to avoid any embarrassment from a crowded lobby of customers, offer which they never stood by.
