If It Weren't For Grand Prix...
By Jodel, 6/24/11
I'll start with the good news. The Marriott Montreal Chateau Champlain is a great location. And this is the first time we stayed there for our annual Grand Prix weekend so we were ecstatic with the connected Metro station, proximity to other hotels (where relatives were staying), restaurants, and of course the festivities on Saint Catherine. Another bonus was that the Red Bull Racing team was staying there so there were no shortage of celebrity sightings. Now for the bad news... Approaching the hotel was a bit horrifying as I realized this neo-disco rounded beehive monstrosity that I've abhorred for years about the Montreal skyline was going to be my home for the next 4 days. It's fine, don't judge a book by its cover I thought to myself, and gave it a chance. The lobby was nothing spectacular, and no effort was made in the floor lobbies or hallways to depart from the dingy 70s feel. The room was the biggest disappointment: Usually with older hotels the rooms are spacious and the layout generous, but maybe they've gutted this building and replaced the innards with the inspiration of a Quality Inn (That is not a knock against Quality Inn). Because the beds were too small, we asked for a cot/rollaway and were told that is against hotel policy, citing fire code. I have never heard that from a hotel ANYwhere in the world, but how do you argue with fire code... The wart on the face of the weekend was the expanded door. It seems that the onset of summer expanded the aging door of our room, which caused VERY LOUD CREAKING as it scraped against the jamb and croaked its 4-decade old frame in and out of place at all hours as we came and went. This was not an ideal condition traveling with a 4-year old, and the only efforts made by the hotel to rectify the situation was an ancient janitor visiting us with a can of WD40. Bless his heart, he sprayed that can to emptiness that first night yet made no improvement. In reality the MMCC is a large hotel that happens to be in a very convenient location. It is outshone by other newer hotels in Montreal but doesn't seem concerned by that. Maybe they expect to be demolished and rebuilt. that would be good: Put everyone out of our misery!

We would stay here again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/29/09
First, the good...The hotel was very clean..The view of Montreal from the high floors is exceptional!...The rooms were very quiet, and the water pressure for the shower was the best I can remember for a very long time..We stayed on the 24th floor so we were surprised..The staff was excellent, speaking both French and English fluently..Perhaps the best feature of this hotel is simply its location..You can access the subway (called the Metro here) from the elevators in the hotel...No need to walk outside...Many restaurants and sights are within easy walking distance.. The Not so good...I would avoid the restaurant if I stayed there again..Breakfast was very expensive ($48 Canadian for the two of us) and it consisted of a mediocre buffet.....The parking was rather expensive at $18 a day..(however, thats typical for Montreal)..Also, it was pricey..Averaging $150 a night plus tax...Also, be aware that they charge $1.25 for each local call....Overall, we were satisfied, would probably go back, and feel comfortable recommending this hotel to others..

Stay somewhere else
The accomodations are dated. The staff is rude. The room service food is awful and inconsistent. Last night the fire alarm went on and off for two hours and I could not get anyone on the phone to let me know what was going on. Service is also inconsistent. I am a Marriott Rewards Platinum status guest and they treat me like they never want to see me again. If my client did not ask me to stay here I would be looking for a new hotel. I am not impressed and cannot wait until this assignment is over. Stay at the Hilton, it cannot be worse.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/07
The rooms/views were great! The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating! We bugged them daily with questions and they were always extremely helpful and resourceful! We were total tourists and they were so patient! Hotel was very clean and it's a great location!

Excellent Service marred by subpar facilities
By rickdude, 9/6/07
The employees all go the extra mile with this hotel. Rooms have excellent bedding and views. Temperature control is antiquated and typically the rooms are too hot in the summer and winter. This has been a problem at least since 1999. This is a significant issue for me and I no longer stay at the hotel unless others are booked.

Great place to stay!
By blue, 7/6/07
My family had the best hotel experience at this place. The staffers are very friendly, helpful and accommodating to say the least. No need to drive your car around the area as you can just hop in the Metro (subway) which is just behind the hotel. The buffet breakfast is excellent. The room was elegantly designed and the best thing about this hotel (the excellent customer service by their staff comes very close) is their COMFORTABLE BED. We will definitely come back to experience luxury and comfort in the heart of one of the best places on earth - Montreal!

A Great stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/11/07
My wife and I loved our stay here. The room was decorated beautifully, the halfmoon window are very charming, the tour by an assistant manager (Tony) was handled very professionally and with great tact and grace; he was very accommodating. All our needs were met to a very high standard. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on; I was supremely impressed with this! We look forward to our return visit in two months.

An Above Average Stay!
By symnotic, 5/10/05
This Hotel was great. The staff are quite accomodating. It is idealy located. I was not so happy with the hotel bar or restaurant but there are much better places in the area to go to eat. The staff are more than willing to let you know where to go. Take a cab to old Montreal or walk it it's very close by. I had a great time here.
