Cheap (?), but not worth it!
By ,
I came for a professional meeting lasting four days and was thoroughly disappointed. It looks nice enough from the outside, but once in the room I immediately smelled an odor from the bathroom that, at best, smelled like BO. With no air on in the room, it was downright nasty. The vent/fan in the bathroom ceiling tile was also falling down on one end, which really made it a turn-off. In the bedroom, a section of the window had been removed and was left propped up against the window ledge, which added to a feeling that the room was a mess. Lastly, the clock was plugged in, but blinking 12am and unable to be reset. There were two bedside lamps and one had its spotlight burned out. When the maintenance person finally showed up he said that they were out of the spotlights, so he went into another room down the hall and "borrowed" one for my room. The room had one wall outlet available and one other under the TV on the desk, which was completely inadequate for two people with two cell phones and a computer that needed plugged in at night. The bed was thankfully without bugs, but the bedspread was stained and extremely uninviting for that reason. The ice machine was one floor up on the 7th floor and pretty inconveniently located. Although some of the rooms advertised had refrigerators shown in the rooms, our room with two double beds did not, which without a room safe, as well, made it pretty useless, except as a place to sleep at night. Finally, front desk staff were not friendly and minimally helpful. The parking garage in the basement is available for a charge, but is extremely tight for larger vehicles. I would not return to this hotel againl

It's okay
By ,
After I read reviews of this hotel, they scared me I almost cancel my reservation. This hotel is okay actually. I arrived at 2:30PM and I got my room right away. Yes the underground garage is tight and small (so don't even think about driving your pickup truck or grand caravan in it) and it costs $16+ tax. But it's downtown it is expensive for parking everywhere. Overall it is safe to park your car there; you need your hotel key (card) to open the garage door. It's located at a convenient intersection. It is very close to the subway (Berri-UQAM) and main streets like St. Denis and St. Catherine to name a few. It is also in walking distance to Old Montreal, Old Port and Chinatown. I was glad that I parked my car in the garage so I could visit places by subway (Montreal has a really convenient subway system). The room was clean and spacious than I thought. The bathtub was new (renovated) but that's about it. Other things are perhaps 8-10 years old. Basic things like tv, coffee maker, alarm clock with cd player and hair dryer are provided. I think people had expected too much. After all, this is a hotel in downtown Montreal (don't forget Montreal is an old city). If you have a car and want to spend less, hotels in downtown Montreal are not for you.

poor serivce staff and broken promises
i wish i read the reviews before booking this. i went to the montreal grandprix race end of august 2006. this was a great loction as it was steps away from the metro underground station what would only take us 10 min to get to the event venue on the island. i booked for a room with 2 double beds, and made the note on the booking. i called hours in advance to confirm my booking and asked to have them read me what was booked. they said 1 double bed. i told them to read my comments. andthey said oh sorry, just come and we'll sort it out. i came and was given 1 double bed. i insisted i had already made 2 arrangements while booking and also while calling to confirm but at this point they had nothing available. i dont know why and how they would try and slide this fast one on me.. eventually i was told they OVERBOOKED.. this is not new news to me as far as hotels but im not a fan of it considering i had made arrangements while on the phone while booking and confirming to get something. if i knew they could not or would not be able to keep their end of the agreement then i would not have booked with them. they didnt offer a discount but rather offerered to move me to a double room for my second nite stay and give me 2 vouchers for conennential breakfast their onsite restaurant. i requested to speak to the manager but was told he was out for the week, i contacted them a week a later and they didnt contact me back. perhaps they didnt get my message but either way i was not pleased with the service. im a nice guy and dont give the front desk staff too much of a hard time knowing they're just doing their jobs but i dont apprecite poor service, they just keep saying "what do u want me to do sir, there are no rooms?" on serveral ocassions i said, make me an offer to try and correct this hotels mixup, after having failed me on 3 ocassions to meet my requirements prior to booking. there is only one elevator that goes up, the other tends to be locked for use to access the basement parking, since there is no stair access to the basement. parking is limited indoors to about 15 spots underground, you'll have to park on the parking lot next door which is outdoors and run by another company, where you will have to leave your key with the front desk overnite so they can pack tonnes of cars in their tiny parking lot. give them about 45min headstart prior to leaving so they can move all the cars to get to yours. the tv's in the room were smaller then average. i was in two rooms and they both had a small tv that seemd to be of the older style and about 20inch max. when i was upgraded to the 2 double bed room we also had a small tv, this was a suprize, as i would expcect something average. i wasnt impressed. the location is good as there are restaurants and the metro access is nearby. st.catherines street is along the hotel so u can go for walks and explore the city. i would not and will not go back to this hotel. they failed.

watch out!!
By ,
When I went to check out after a 2 day stay , they tried to charge me $363 when I was quoted $139 with the casino package. After explaining quite adamently to the manager, I was given the correct price. It was well worth the $139, but after taxes and parking fee, $15/day, It was $199. I guess is was worth that because we got continental breakfast for 2 and $20 casino $. Had to take the subway to get to casino but was no problem, cost $2.50. Service was good , we had a broken hair dryer and it was replaced in about 15mins. located in a busy area people always walking by. close to port of Montreal and many restaurants.

Hotel Lord Berri in Montreal
By ,
We stayed in the Lord Berri for three days in July and liked it very much. The staff were friendly and efficient, the room was clean and the towels, while not luxurious, were just fine. We had our window open and had no trouble with street noises at night. The restaurant serves very good food and the prices are in line with similar restaurants in the area. The hotel is 2 blocks from the Metro and near many interesting shops, restaurants and night spots. We will stay there again when in Montral and recommend this hotel to our friends.

Lord Berri
By ,
We arrived to hear the parking garage was full and had to park in an outside lot near the hotel. The room was clean but the towels were threadbare and ragged and most badly stained. We had a room facing the street on the 7th floor and the street noise and people were very disruptive until the wee hours of the morning. Overall it is a bargain hotel in a so-so area just off St. Cahterine Street East (not a place to wander alone after dark).
