forget about internet access!
I stayed here for business. I could not log on to the internet in my room or in the lobby. The staff said that there was nothing that they could do, and pointed to a computer room in the lobby where you can log on......using a credit card! HUH?? What's with that?? I had to take my laptop, get into my car and drive 6 blocks to an internet cafe where my laptop worked fine. One should not have to leave one's hotel room to have to get onto the internet. While bringing my bags up to my room on a luggage cart, the cart fell apart. The bellman laughed about it. The place is a bit run down, but my room had been recently renovated. The restaurant was good, and the parking is free. Try finding that in Montreal. A bad experience for me because of the internet problem.

Great staff--hotel? Not so much...
By Lori, 7/30/09
We were sent here by a roadside "Welcome to Quebec" place. We booked on the spot for the savings and the hotel was a decent value when you factor in the breakfast (very good) and the free parking. The staff was friendly, spoke perfect English and guided us well for dinner and activities. The room was NOT the room that the welcome centre showed us on the computer screen. It was tired, very small and the beds were like sleeping on slate. I like firm but this was rock hard. The place just looked like it had been revamped but was showing its age. Locale was OK for Biosphere, Gardens etc. We used the shuttle service and found the drivers to be terrific. Pool was OK but not being able to order lunch and a drink poolside--or even bring a drink outside really took away from the experience. I would not stay again most likely as if the bed is no good then that is a huge problem. I feel that the Welcome centre misguided us in saying it was a 4 star motel---having stayed in many 4 star motels this is NOT one. It is 3 at best and that is only for the staff which really was great.

Very Friendly Staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/1/09
The room was good like a hotel should be especially considering the price. parking was convenient at no extra cost (they used a token system) in out all day as much as you wanted and you did not have to give anyone your keys. There was a breakfast in the hotels restaurant that was excellent and I would like to thank them as well for being extreamly friendly. I have stayed here three times and will stay again the next time I need a hotel in Montreal.

locked out
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/2/08
Overall, the hotel is nice. However, I got locked out repeatedly because the card keys do not work - some work for only a few hours. The front desk clerks were very ready to provide us with more bum cards which need to be returned in a few minutes or a few hours. The cards work at the parking lot only 50% of the time. So, you see, one would get a lot of exercise running up and down in the hotel. Who needs the gym?

VERY bad Experience at hotel Auberge Universal in Montreal
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/07
VERY Bad Experience at hotel Auberge Universal in Montreal ****? Located only a short distance away from Olympic Stadium. This is not a place to relax after a long day of sight seeing or business dealing. The hotel charged my credit card before I got there. Marc, the Front Desk Clerk said that it was a mistake. My kids tried to use the hot tub, but it was cold during operation hours and they could not do anything about it. Maintenance man was not on duty. The TV has about five, mostly French channels to watch. Rooms were dirty with no windows to open. They are one piece Plexiglass. We found staff to be rude. Paid for breakfast was disgusting. There is nothing good about this place and we do not recommend this hotel. Be warned

Alright stay, would not stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/07
We were looking for a place to spend New Years eve, but was not looking to spend a ton of money. I will definitely say that a plus for the Hotel Auberge Universel was that it had some of the cheaper hotel rooms when compared with the rest of Montreal. However, we made reservations to stay in a room with one King bed, and they put us in a room with two double beds, and charged us the same price. We went back to the front desk and they apologized, and upgraded our room to a Deluxe room, however, still two double beds. One thing I was not impressed with was that while getting a chance to see the standard and the deluxe, I can honestly say that there is no difference between the two. I would not reccommend anyone spending more money on their "Deluxe" room, because you will end up getting the EXACT same thing as their standard, just on a higher floor. I also did not think the majority of the staff was friendly. Overall, our stay at this hotel was mediocre, but I do not know if I would reccommend to stay at this hotel.

True hidden jewel of Montreal
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/21/05
the concept of sincere kindness of the front desk caught our attention emediately. Team spirit. was suggested by friends who went up during Grand Prix 2005. Value is amazing 85$ (U.S) indoor pool outdoor in the summer. Very clean. Easy access to downtown and other attractions, yet far enough from the racket. I would recommend it anytime.

Excellent location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/6/05
This hotel is located in the perfect area, if you are more interested in Montreal's history and attractions, than its seedy nightlife. It is walking distance from the Olympic Stadium, Biodome, Insectarium and the Botanical Garden. The staff is friendly and attentive, the food is good, and the pool is a plus, but some of the carpeting could use replacement.
