Try the chowder...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/09
I always look forward to staying at this hotel in Seattle (and the chowder with smoked salmon is out of this world!!!) I can't quite put my finger on the ambience -- but suffice to say that the hotel 'feels' great - great staff - -redone bar -- nice fireplace lounge off the bar where you can sit and read or log-on to your laptop while enjoying a cocktail. My room is usually a corner suite, and while the living area is a bit small, it's clean-- very well decorated, and the views are spectacular. (My stay this time was room 2710) The only complaint? The Concierge lounge is pitifully small and overcrowded -- I did not feel welcome when I went there -- at 7:30pm there was one lonely piece of cake left and coffee - that was about it........... Other than the Concierge Lounge, I cannot find one fault with this hotel

I really can't wait for my next Seattle trip
By Missy Ann, 05/27/09
I loved this hotel. It was located in the right spot. It's about 5 blocks from the shopping district and monorail and about 8 blocks from the waterfront. Keep in mind this hotel is located on top of STEEP hills and once you walk down you have to find your way up! The check-in was fine, and once I got into my room I felt completely comfortable. The bathroom was clean and update, the bedroom was clean and update and I had a great view of the water and Space Needle. The restaurant food wasn't all that great but it's downtown so there are PLENTY of places close by. The staff was excellent! ALL OF THEM! They made my trip truly enjoyable. The gym was updated I didn't get to experience the pool but someone was always in there. This place was truly worth every penny. The only thing that put me off was that they were doing construction but I never heard anything in my room.

Good location, clean, standard Marriott
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/09
The old Madison Hotel, now a Marriott Renaissance, has been renovated (as of 2009 April) except for the lobby area, due for completion April. I had a "corner suite", 23rd floor. Everything was clean and comfortable. The rooms are small even for a Marriott, but, it is the middle of a city. Good towels and other room amenities. Shop for rates. I paid $170 for my suite and got my choice of free parking or free breakfast daily. Yes, Internet access is $13 pretty much like every other hotel in any city, but it is FREE on the 28th floor Visions lounge (even when it is "closed") and on the 2nd floor Maxwell's restaurant (just sit in the restaurant waiting area). Staff is extremely friendly (even for a Marriott). Taxis available outside the door. Concierge has umbrellas by the door. The yellow Greyhound airporter $12 SeaTac door 00) stops at the Renaissance first from the airport. Maxwell's food was actually quite good. Visions drink prices about typical for a bar with a view. Parking is expensive (duh) but why rent a car in Seattle? That's like renting a car in New York City. Just use taxis or take city busses (they're free). 6 blocks to the waterfront. 5 to Westlake Plaza center of town (and monorail to Seattle Center). Starbucks and Seattle's Best Coffee cafes every block. I was there for the Seattle Ballet. Yes, it was raining.

Not exactly full service for the price.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/22/08
Ok, the location is great, that's it. They advertise internet access in every room, and then in the small print it costs $12 a day! At these prices in this day and age it should be included!

Never Again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/08
The bed was hard as a slab of concrete; I actually checked to see if there was a matress or if we were sleeping on box springs only. I tossed & turned all night and had a horrible sleep deprived stay. No extra pillows; nothing. To say that this hotel is 3 star is completely laughable. The only good thing is its location; close to downtown. But it wasn't worth it because of the horrible bed. If you prefer something slightly more comfortable than the floor, don't stay here! Cheap bed = no sleep.

Pleasant comfortable stay
By travelinthru93, 05/30/08
Clean and comfortable...had a nice city view as well as Elliot Bay and Lake Union in the distance. Service was great. It is a few blocks from main shopping areas but worth the walk if you catch a nice day. Would stay there again.

Excellent Turn-Down Service
By , 03/27/07
- Excellent turn-down service, chocolates on the night table each night - Hot coco or coffee with paper in the mornings - Good work area - Worn plumbing fixtures in bathroom (needs remodeling) - Mini-bar has been removed from original modeling, ugly blank in its place - Daily charge for Internet, but includes US calling too - Internet down 50% of 4 night stay, sluggish when working

Not the best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/26/06
It was an okay place -- the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The internet did not work at all on floors 22-24, and they kept putting all their guests there, though the internet had been down for a week. There was no mini-bar. The bathroom was depressing -- kind of like a cheap motel bathroom with old countertops, floors, and industrial vinyl shower curtain. The restaurant on the 2nd floor was terrible. The service was friendly. The location was good, in the heart of the city. I stayed on business and the rate was a rip-off at $189 per night, but it was cheaper (and probably uglier) than anything else in the area.
