Outdated, no in room AC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/26/11
I was really looking forward to my stay at The Edgewater and ended up being extremely disappointed. I booked a supposed Waterfront "Premium" room which was described on their website as having views of water and mountains. I got barely any view of the mountain and instead had a view of a loading dock and water. Why pay premium for a view of a loading dock? I don't even know if I was really even given a "premium" room because it certainly did not feel like it from the views I had. I felt deceived. Also, I had no idea the hotel had no in room AC until I checked in. I thought the AC was broken and when I called the front desk they informed me that their rooms have no AC (only in the lobbies). They advised me to open the window and run the ventilation fan for air. (There's a thermostat control on the wall that tricks you into thinking there is in room AC but it is only for controlling the ventilation fan). I've never stayed at a hotel with no AC. It was warm, humid and stuffy in the room. The fan didn't even work and I had to wait over a half hour for someone to come fix it. The room was very musty with the combination of high humidity and no AC. Contrary to comments about water side view rooms being quieter, I was still able to hear the train horn blasting in the middle of the night. The fuzzy bear ottoman that they like to refer to on their website, was gross and filthy looking (I did not want to touch it). The hallway was also disgusting. Stained carpet, musty smell, and dimly lit. I'm shocked that this is considered one of the higher end hotels in Seattle. There was no way I was going to be able to enjoy my vacation at this hotel so I checked out after just 1 night (I was originally booked for 7 nights). Got a much better waterfront view from another nearby hotel that was more modern, clean and for a better price. My only positive experience at The Edgewater was with the restaurant (food was good).

Not for Christians

Management intentionally removed Gideon Bibles from rooms. They do have Life of Buhda books and in room porn. : (

Great Location - but dilapidated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/2/10
The Edgewater has a fabulous location on the water close to the heart of Seattle. In it's hay day - the 1960's I'm sure it was edgier but today it's a dilapidated version of its former glory. I got a fantastic rate on Priceline and then upgraded our rooms upon check-in. As other reviewers have mentioned the walls are thin so beware as noise travels. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms were remodeled and work well, and my bed was very comfortable. Elevators are slow and small but this is an older hotel. Parking is expensive but it is everywhere in Seattle. Happy hour is great and the view fabulous. Most of the staff are polite but but rude if given an opportunity. Once I forgot my parking ticket and the bell person gave me a very hard time. I let it slide but he could have at least tried to be gracious. When I departed the hotel having paid them a total of $2400 for three rooms for four days I called the front desk to ask if my son's sweatshirt might be in lost and found. I called back later to say that we had found it. The front desk person took my breath away when she said "it's a pity that you made the assumption that someone at our hotel took it as we've never had an incident of theft here". I said I didn't say that anyone stole it. What she should have said was "I am so glad you found it. You must be relieved. If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know". This is smart customer service and leaves the customer feeling good about returning. Instead she made a personal comment which was unprofessional. This is the difference between staying at the Edgewater and staying at a nicer hotel. The bottom line is if you want a motel in the heart of Seattle on the water stay here. However, if you are looking for a luxury experience with top amenities - pay for it and get it elsewhere because the Edgewater doesn't really cater to this clientele.

Horrible Service
By Kimberly, 1/19/10
I went to the Edgewater for my 40th birthday to be alone. The atmosphere is cozy, if a bit small for so much money. They sent me to the wrong room right off the bat. I paid for a specific water view and had to go all the way back to the desk to get the right room. The restaurant and bar served wonderful food and drink, but the bartender ignored me for a good 15 minutes before I was served and they were not that busy. Upon departure I left a tip and thank you to the maid, went down to check out with a $20 in my pocket ready for the valet. When my "not that fancy car" pulled up, the valet got out with not so much as a nod and walked away. The three valets stood there and ignored me as I opened my trunk and put my heavy luggage in by myself. Again, they just stood there. I got in the car and was ignored. I felt embarassed and poor and not deserving to be there. Will NEVER return. What a horrible way to treat a female traveler who is alone. Never again.

old, small, bad service
By design fluid, 5/14/09
Its cool that the hotel is built on a pier but you only know that if you agree to pay an extra 50$ per night (if u v booked on priceline) to get a water facing room. There is not much of a common area, no pool, no spa, no nothing (no basic stuff u d expect at a 4 star hotel). Over all the interior feels like you are in an old cruise ship. The passages are dark and narrow, rooms really small. The decor is like an old lodge (to make you feel like you are saying in a small family owned motel. The bathrooms are very small but nicely redone (with contemporary fixtures that obviously dont match the rest of the lodge decor. I was also disappointed with room service. we ordered for breakfast and requested for extra sweetener and creamer ( as we had run out of the provided 2 sachets of sugar and 2 equal sachets the previous day). The breakfast arrived after 45 mins. They brought us creamer but forgot the sweetener. I called room service again but they said it would take another 30 mins to 45 mins. I requested for bringing it asap and followed up with another phone call but the sweetner NEVER arrived and I could not even get a cup of my morning coffee! They tend to cut costs on moisturizer, toothpastes, etc as they donot provide them even on request! They were kind enough to provide towels and shampoo conditioner!

DUMP! SMELLS LIKE A DUMP!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/6/09
IT IS OUTDATED PLACE, SMELLS LIKE MOLD, AND RIGHT NEXT TO TRAIN TRACKS AND FREEWAY. YOU CAN'T SLEEP THERE, OVERPRICES PARKING OF $30 AND MUST BE VALLEY. THEY TAKE YOUR CAR AND PARK IT ON THE LOT RIGHT WHERE YOU CAME OUT. CHARGE YOU $30 FOR THAT. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE A 2 STAR - NOT 4!!!! IT WILL BE THE SMALLEST 4 STAR ROOM YOU EVER SEE.

Wonderful Hotel!!!
By Angela, 12/10/08
If you love being by the water, AND close to all of the downtown attractions...this is the place. We stayed 3 nights in a water front room before heading to Canada and it was marvelous!!! We kept the curtains open the entire time and watched the boats go by all hours of the night and day. We even fed about 30 seagulls from the window every morning. Our room also had a fireplace right by the window, so it was very romantic. The bathroom was like a spa. You could open the sliding doors while sitting in the claw foot bathtub, and watch the boats in the bay, the fireplace &/or the t.v. It also had a marvelous shower. This hotel is decorated in a kind of "Twin Peaks" style. Modern and edgy, but also a little "lodge" too. It is for young singles or couples. I would not bring any age of children there. The food was also amazing for dinner, and the views from dinner and the lobby were spectacular. I guarantee no one else could duplicate or do better. The service was good also. The valet guys to a good job. They can make any arrangement for you to travel anywhere in the city. And they even will take and pick you up with the hotels shuttle van if you're within a few miles. We did this several times and it worked great! Thanks to Chad & Mike especially!!! This hotel is right next door to the Victoria Clipper, which we took to Canada. Just a few steps and you're there, no need for a taxi etc.[We did not rent a car at all on this trip-no need too!] We only needed to stay one more night in Seattle when we arrived back from Canada, and because we loved the Edgewater, we stayed there again. But this time, we hadn't booked in advance. We decided to save a little money and stay city side since we were headed for the airport that morning. The room had the same style, and the view of the space needle was great...but it was pretty expensive for a lot smaller room (and no bathtub). Over all, if you're not taking children, and you like a "nice" hotel and not just some place to "crash", this is the place! But if boat noises bother you, you better pass. We're going back!!!!

Bait & Switch
By Drewsky, 11/3/08
My wife and I held our wedding at the Edgewater Hotel (Seattle) September of 2008 and were unpleasantly surprised when we got back from our honeymoon and found out that our final bill was almost 30% (over $4,600) higher than the final estimated we received just days prior to the wedding. When we met with our sales representative and her manager we were told that the original estimate was just that, an estimate. They then assured us, however, that our satisfaction is their priority; they’d review the final bill and see if we could “meet in the middle somewhere.” Our sales representative called us five days later to let us know that the best they could do was offer to reduce our final bill by roughly $1,600. I will say that my wife and I can agree that the location, presentation, and catering made our wedding experience absolutely phenomenal. This was definitely the best day of our lives but we can not shake the horrible taste left in our mouths as a result of our final billing surprise.

Best Hotel in Seattle
By 1travelchick, 8/31/08
This is a great hotel. The balcony is intimate, private, and on the water. We sat on the balcony and fed the seagulls - very nice. We stayed during the holiday season and were greeted with hot apple cider after our long adventurous days in Seattle. Short walks to tourist attractions. The food was excellent and the staff was pleasant/
