Haunted?
By Elmira Visitor, 10/12/09
I stayed there way back in 1995 and at night in my room, in the halls and in the dining area down stairs, I heard creaky willowy sounds...ghosts?

Rustic Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/09
We were warmly greeted at the front desk and our room was clean and comfortable. Antiques are everywhere! The food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Since there was no TV, we went to the Wayside Theater and we amazed at the quality of the performance. It was delightful! Go to the theater if you are anywhere near Middletown.

Management Change
By JB, 05/13/08
As a patron over the years I must confess I was rather impressed with the new management change at the Wayside. One of the changes was a more sophisticated menu that included duck, quail and venison. My partner had what I believe was the Hunters bag. I delved into the fried catfish and will handily admit that is the best I have ever eaten. The most notable change was the decorating and attention to detail. After some discussion we concluded this was the work of the the manager Jennifer. I have always loved the ambiance of this Inn but these actions if continued could bring it back to its glory days. Very Good.

Anniversary
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/29/07
My wife and I went to the Wayside for dinner on our first date. We celebrate the anniversary of our first date every year there, followed by a trip down to the Shehandoah County Fair. The food is top shelf, service and atmosphere is hard to match. We also go for Easter brunch, no disappointments there either.

Planning to return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/06
The whole atmosphere of the inn was welcoming including the beautiful drive through the Shenandoah Valley. We stopped at the inn to just have dinner and decided to stay overnight. The staff was very pleasant and the owner was a wonderful story teller. Our rooms were clean, comfortable, spacious and full of antiques. The history of the bar and inn are great. We are definitely going back.

Good for Dinner
By Dara, 05/02/06
We went there for dinner before going to a show at the Wayside Theater, and the dinner was very good! The room we ate in was very nice -- we were able to be seated by a fireplace. I would recomend this for a romantic dinner.

Terrific Anniversary Weekend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/04/06
These wonderful people KNOW hospitality in every regard. We spent 4 days there which included two special dinner parties with friends. We recommend one of their suites. Southern and gracious rooms. The food for each meal was wonderful - including the continental breakfast. Many antique shops are nearby and historic Winchester and Bell Grove Plantation is a "must see". We will definately return for weekend getaways and special occasions with our friends.

Do not have your wedding reception at Wayside Inn!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/19/05
To say the very least, I had a very bad experience with my wedding reception at the Wayside Inn this past February 2005. To make a very long story short, they handled it very unprofessionally. The space and time that I paid for was double booked with another party which the manager told me WOULD NOT happen. Due to this my reception decorations were done with little care at the last minute and the placement of my cake table and the wedding party table was not right.I also did not have an opportunity to have reception photos taken before my guests arrived due to this overbooking-the photographer finally gave up on them and raced over to the church just in time. My half hour ceremony had already started when the room finally became vacant. Overall, The service was very poor. We paid for unlimited soft drinks and were only served one, leaving us to fend for ourselves afterwards. The wait staff left a pile of dirty dishes in front of the cake table as the cake cutting ceremony was about to begin and people were taking pictures. We did however pay them a hefty sum of 2700 dollars for a 60 guest reception. In total, I was extremely disappointed on one of the most important days of my life. I have a long list of complaints that just won't fit on this review page. But I do not advise dealing with this establishment. Despite the Wayside's previous reputation for good food and hospitality, the new managers at this place obviously do not and will not adhere to those traditions. They really let myself and my family down on this most special occasion which we had been arranging with them since last August 2004. They will not be recieving any more of my or my family and friend's business ever again.
