Good Value for the price and great location
By Tortfeezr, 4/15/09
We stayed here for 2 nights as part of the Revolutionary package advertised on the Colonial Williamsburg web site. We had admission passes included with the hotel stay so we thought it was a good deal. Of all the 3 hotels outside the area, it is by far the closest to the attractions and the best value for the money. We didn't even need to use the shuttle - we walked over the RR tracks on North Henry Street and we were right in the middle of everything. The downside to this hotel is of course, no refrigerator or microwave. The bathrooms are also small (the sinks are located outside the toilet/shower). The beds are firm and relatively clean. The continental breakfast is very good - we also had choice of cereals, hard boiled eggs and toasted bagels and english muffins. The downside is that the hotel is very noisy and the walls are thin - there were just too many kids staying around us and you can hear the showers and sinks above you and next door. I recommend this hotel because its really close to what you came here to see. The lobby also has a list of menus of local restaurants which really came in handy. Housekeeping services here can be very unpredictable though (they knocked on our door at 7:30 am and we were still just waking up).

School Groups
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/7/07
I enjoyed my stay at this inn and visiting Williamsburg except there were large groups of school children at the inn and in Williamsburg. Why does Williamsburg allow these school groups to take over and destroy the experience for everyone? The ratio of adults to children should be 1 to 5 instead it was 1 to 20.

We hope they will clean, recarpet & paint the rooms.
By Lou, 10/24/06
The one draw-back is the housekeeping. The rooms were unclean, particularly the carpet. The courtesy by the employees was good and the proximity to Williamsburg is good.

October 2006 Stay
By Alan, 10/11/06
We stayed three nights, the room was clean, staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was a good value, since we did not stay in the room much. If you are just looking for a place to put your head down and not spend too much time in your room, this is the place to be. The only disappointment, which has nothing to do with the Governor's Inn nor Colonial Williamsburg, was our choice of weekends for our stay that just so happened to be during a NorEaster. We would stay here again on our next visit.

Good Location, average otherwise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/16/06
My girlfriend and I spent 4 days here, the room was ok, could have used a fridge, also the folder which normally has local info just had a few pieces of paper. Big problem, the maid left our door open, nothing was taken thankfully they sent a security person over right away. Also we came back around 3 pm on another day and they had not finished our room. The location was good, close to visitor center and Williamsburg Village west end but leaving a room open like this is a serious lapse in judgement. I would think twice about staying here again.

August 2005 visit
By D. J., 6/9/06
This was a family vacation visit. Front desk service was good. Once we got to the room and looked around we realized how dirty it was. There were hairs and dirt in the bathroom and trash under the beds. We requested that they send someone to clean it up and some guy with terrible BO came with a squirt bottle of cleaning solution and some rags to clean the bathroom. It was somewhat noisy as we were near the pool. The continental breakfast was packed, had to wait to sit down, and breakfast bar was messy. We had reserved two nights but checked out the next morning and went to a Quality Inn for the second night, where we had a great experience. The one redeeming factor was that it was part of a deal where tickets to Colonial Williamsburg were included, but I would expect that Colonial Williamsburg would maintain much higher quality standards for their hotels. It was also close to Colonial Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg is such a high quality place that it was hard to believe how disappointing this hotel was.

Better than expected!
By B, 4/4/06
After reading all the reviews about this inn, we were a little unsure of what we might find, but overall the experience was good. They let us check in early and the room had plenty of towels. It was a close walk to the historical district and you could hear the birds singing in the morning. The room did have a stale smell and it was kind of noisy. You could hear other people and the trains going by, but the people at the desk were very informative about the area. The continental breakfast had a lot of variety and there was plenty of food available when we arrived. Overall it was a great place to stay.

Buyer beware
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/9/06
The best thing about the Inn was it's name (sounded nice) and the location. We had group reservations and I felt the person who made the arrangements was mislead by whoever recommended this place. The rooms were a little on the small side, well-worn and not particularly clean. There seemed to be some inconsistency when it came time to check out. We all were supposed to be paying the same amount and yet we payed a few dollars more than our son. When we asked why, we were told, "Sometimes it just happens that way"... Since this place is listed along with other nicer places in Williamsburg such as the Williamsburg Inn, I think people assume they are getting similar quality...I think it's time for a little rennovation. The only thing that made up for the status of this place is that our family was together...and nothing can top that.

Fire Alarm Heebie Jeebies
By Robert Canipe, 8/17/05
Our last night there around midnight, lightning struck the main building sending the fire alarms screaming. It scared the beejesus out of my wife. The screeching continued for a half-an-hour. What upset me was that there no offer of a fee adjustment at all. No apology, nothing. The rooms were ok, about equal to the price; the bathroom had very long hairs of some past visitor plastered on the wall. If taking advantage of the free continental breakfast, be prepared to get up early; I think people from other hotels came. There was a 25 minute line for cereal and milk. The place is a ten minute walk from Colonial Williamsburg. Just head across the railroad tracks and down Henry street and you'll run into it. Waiting for the bus is a waste of time. However, we rode it a couple times as it was 100-plus degrees outside! The bus drivers were all nice although I think one of the evening guys was slightly tipsy. All-in-all it was a good stay on a professor's salary although the bad things really crimped the overall rating of the place. $50 or $75 refund for being scared out of our wits would have been nice, but I suppose they'd simply say it was an ACT OF GOD and He never offers refunds or even slight adjustments. Oh, and there was NEVER any ice in their lousy ice machines. Idiots apparently filled their coolers with it. I called the desk for ice delivery and was told I'd have to come after it AND pay $1.25 for it! That was a true RIP-OFF. I think their not bringing it to me is what really chapped my ice-bucket.

Awful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/05
This "Inn" was awful. On our walk to our room, there was a roach on the sidewalk and bird feathers in the elevator. Every AC unit leaked onto the sidewalks causing paint to chip and concrete to crack. Once we got to our room, one of the paintings was missing from the walls, there was hair in the bathroom, and the rooms were dirty. Definitely would not recommend.
