Worst possible location ever
By ,
First off- I feel deceived. They say ocean front, which it is- they also say boardwalk- which it isn't. It's 20 blocks to the boardwalk from this hotel! I thought Wyndham were nice hotels- I was very wrong. The room was small and dirty, had electrical issues, the lamps kept turning off randomly, the TV, microwave and mini fridge kept turning off randomly, the smoke detector was hanging by it's wires, the ceiling had water damage and was falling in, there was mold growing on the bathroom wall. When we arrived there was a lady yelling at the front desk manager about her room not having AC, the hallway not having AC and the elevators not working. YEP, should have known right there. We did have AC in the room, but the hallway was almost 90 degrees, and the elevators did not work- and that was a pain to take your luggage up the steps. When we got to the room only one of the room cards worked. The beds were very uncomfortable, there was sand IN the bed (I hope they changed the sheets!) and again it was very small, unlike most of the pictures that you see. The hotel was very old and not very well maintained for it's age. The carpet in the room may have been the original, it felt very dirty, and smelled kinda funny too. Let's see, oh yes, we went through many towels because the show curtain was too short and all your water ran outside the shower! So we had to keep it sopped up. For the price I paid, the service we got, and it's location, plus the cleanliness of the hotel I highly do NOT recommend this place. Next time I'll stay somewhere else!

Would not let cutomers check on time stay clear
By ,
When we tried to check into this expensive hotel at 2:00 PM we were told check in time was 4:00 PM. When we attempted to check in at 4:15 the hotel manager told us the room was still not ready. We spent the time between 2:00 and 4:00 at the beach, we were sandy and dirty and did not have time to wait for the room, having tickets to a show and could not be late. When we tried to call the hotel the waiting time on the phone was over 20 minutes. The manager was rude and unprofessional.

Overrated for a Wyndam, more like a Super 6
By ,
My wife and I went ther because it was our anniversay and we wanted a special place. The bathroom water wouldn't shut off the bedroom was dirty, the room needed updating. I would never never stay at that place again. I wrote to Wyndham's main office , but they didn't do anything, I don't think they care about people's responses.

Very Nice Restaurant/Bar
By ,
The layout of the restaurant and bar was very nice and half the seats looked out towards the beach. Decor was classy but relaxed. Wine wall w/ladder was unusual and cool...not to mention selection of wines was very good! Food....it was ok. Myself and a guest had the Chesapeake dinner and split it. The crab cake (1) needed more seasoning, it was bland. The oysters Rockefeller (3) were very small and were a bit overcooked or may have been in the "window" too long, waiting to be served. The scallops(3) and grilled asparagus(5) were spot on! I didn't feel like it was a real deal for what we paid (no side item or salad included) and being in the food industry myself, I know better. The plate presentation needs some help...huge rectangular plate half empty, food scattered from corner to corner hap-hazardly, or at least it looked that way. Overall though it was still a nice place to go and I would go there again.

Not up to my standards
By ,
The room was not clean, the first night wer were there the bathtub clogged up and the toilet banged against the wall everytime you sat down. There was no fan in the bathroom which made the showers hot and the mirror stayed fogged forever. The staff was friendly, we had to drive to the boardwalk and pay for parking everytime, which we were not aware this hotel was not near the others. Overall, i would not stay here again. Not close to other people and there were 4 weddings while we were there fri-sunday and they blocked off access into the building from the beach, which got annoying.

VA Beach Honeymoon
By ,
I recently stayed at the Wyndham Virginia Beach with my new bride. Everything was absolutley wonderful! I feel like we got a very good deal, and it was nice being away from the boardwalk. It's only a mile away, but make sure to take advantage of the shuttle service, because there is little to no free parking near the boardwalk area. The staff was great, and accommodated our every need. The concierge was helpful, but be wary that if you visit them you will be prodded into sitting through a time share sales presentation. But overall, a great trip and a great honeymoon with lots of nice memories. I would recommend this hotel, and if was definitely worth the price we paid.

Great stay
By ,
I'm always nervous when reading on-line reviews, which for this hotel were not great, but we plowed ahead anyway. Good thing...we were very happy. Although not everyone in our group was able to do so, our family just happened to arrive when some rooms were recently cleaned so we were able to check-in early, 1pm on a Thursday. The group had four rooms, three in the suite wing and one regular room in the high-rise. All were clean, big, comfortable, and well-appointed. Towels and bed sheets were fresh and the carpet was clean, too. We had no problem walking around barefoot. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, when needed. The concierge, too, although we recognize that their service is predicated on fluff reviews of every restaurant around. Each day our room was cleaned quickly and completely and our personal effects were not disturbed. Personally did not eat in the restaurant, but others did and were very happy, especially with lunch. Never had a problem finding parking in the free, on-site garage. In fact, on departure day, parked on the fourth level and was easily able spread everything out to load the mini-van without being rushed or concerned about other vehicles passing by. The garage is connected to the suite wing so that made it convenient for us, too. Similar to the restaurant, we didn't use the free shuttle to the boardwalk area, but often saw it on the road going back and forth so we knew it would be available if we needed it. Being off of the boardwalk, we were hoping that the base rate would have been a bit lower than it was, even with the AAA discount we used. We could have stayed in a cheaper high-rise room, but with three kids (two teens), we paid the extra for the suite and it was worth it to us to have the extra space. There were free, supervised activities for younger kids, moon bounce, volleyball, movie night, although we didn't take advantage of any, it was good to have. While we missed the chance to be close to the boardwalk to people watch and the convenience of being where the action is, we also very much liked being away from it all also - easy to get a spot on the beach and no late-night or very early morning noise. Since we dined out each night, it wasn't a big deal to just park in the boardwalk area to enjoy BeachStreet on our way back to the hotel after eating. Our rollaway bed, not a fold-up, was a nice bonus, especially since we saw some fold-ups in the hallway. $10 well spent. OK...things to be aware of. Wi-Fi was horrendous. Brother-in-law was told it was due to a lightening strike on an antennae, but we didn't see any improvement during our stay even in the business center when we connected our laptops. The shower pressure was very weak. Both indoor and outdoor pools are tiny. Really, they're just like big puddles. Personally, I don't see any need for a pool at the beach, but others do, so I figured I'd mention it. The sleep sofa was very average which was disappointing considering the nice rollaway and very comfortable king bed. The lounge chairs that matched the sofa weren't any better. Not that we used the sofa or chairs to sit on much, but with five people showering, getting ready, and general down time, these could be upgraded. And speaking of needed upgrades, no flat panels/HD TV's that most hotels have already moved to. Again, not a big deal while on vacation. Each vacation to VaB has been different - Sandbridge house one year. Croatan house twice, and last year a boardwalk hotel - Quality Inn on 7th. I don't know what we'll plan for the future, but I would not have any qualms about staying at the Wyndham again if we decide to do a hotel again.

Will go again
By ,
We arrived at 2:00pm and asked if we could check in even thought check out wasn't until 4:00pm. The desk clerk who was also the manager on duty said sure. We asked about where to get blue crabs in the area. The desk clerk/manager checked us in then spent several minutes calling different resturants in the area looking for us. He was friendly and treated us like we were the only customers in the hotel. When we went to our room we were pleasanlty surprised with the room, The bed and pillows in the room were the most comfortable I have ever had in a hotel. We stayed at a Westin in South Carolina and these beds where better. Our view was awesome. We slept with our sliding door open everynight to hear the ocean. The staff including the cleaning people were friendly and accomodating. The food in the resturant was good however they didn't have much of a selection for our tastes. My only complaint was the water for the shower and sink was hot. I like my water hot, but my hubby does not so this was a problem for him. Also the indoor pool was too small for the size of the hotel. This would not stop me from going there again. I also enjoyed sitting on my balcony watching the movie they played one night when we were there. All in all it was a great visit.

Not bad
By ,
Dislikes - The pools, elevators, hall carpet, dated furniture. Likes - Room service, comfy bed, location for coupling only, oceanfront, almost private beach, and nice robes. This hotel is certainly not up to other Wyndham stays, but the bed was comfortable and we didn't mind lounging in the room. The room was clean and comfortable. It could have been better. The hallway carpet, elevators, and pools should be replaced. My husband and I stayed here for a couple of days of romance and it felt that way before coming back about a week later and staying in the more populated area. I would not bring teens to this hotel because it's pretty isolated from the shops, restaurants, and street action. If you want a little more isolation from the hustle and bustle, then this is the spot. I would stay here again, because I was comfortable. It wasn't the best most updated place I've stayed, but it was nice and comfortable.
