Nice & Relaxing Get Away!!!
By Mandrills M.C., 08/11/09
The Duke of York was all in all a decent place. The room was very clean; the decor was a little old & out dated. There was a very light stale odor, but the scented candle took care of that. I would say interior wise I would compare it to a Motel 8 or Red Roof Inn. Some rooms had private balconies, which I would say gave a awesome view of the beach & river walk, we stayed on the hillside rooms, which also had a nice porch type balcony overlooking the river. The staff was very friendly & helpful. The hotel offers a great view of the York River & right across the street from the beach, river walk (restaurants & stores). Everything is within walking distance & the trolley stops across the street & gives a tour of the town for free. If you want a decent place to lay your head, relax & excellent location, Duke of York is a good choice. I plan to go back again someday.

Little wonder
By Shenika, 06/01/09
Yorktown is a nice little hidden town, Takes a while to get there but well worth the trip. Duke of Your was cleaner than I expected and the view was great. I didn't try out the pool, but the river beach front was awesome. Went for my honeymoon and plan to return someday.

Hidden Gem of Hampton Roads
By AlyO, 01/14/08
Where hotel prices by the beach are $250 per night or more, one or two that are fantastic with a lot value stand before us. This is the one in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Although it is noty directly on the beach people want to be on (Virginia Beach), there is a lot of shopping, history, and attractions that are just footsteps away. The Duke of York Motel has been on that beachfront landscape for almost 3 generations. It prices range from $50 or less in the winters and $100 or less in the summer. Although due to the blustery cold gust in the wintertime due to its coastal area, I would not recommend going to this hotel or any beachside hotel in the winter. It is phonominal in the summer due to the renovated waterfront called Riverside that has a great restaurant. But if you want malls and stuff like that you can have a 10 minute drive to Newport News, Hampton, or Williamsburg for more shopping and restaurants. Although like most family-run motels, they aren't the Williamsburg Inn 10 miles away. But it's the best value in Hampton Roads for value and proximity to the beach.

Great Time

The service was great. The food in the restaurant is excellent. The rooms could use updating, but overall it was a wonderful place. Great views and very charming. Cant wait to go back.

Nice get-away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/26/07
When my husband and I got married, one of our gifts was a 2 night stay at the Duke Of York. I upgraded the room to a jacuzzi room. We had a wonderful time. Plenty of places to eat and things to see. Both the Pub nearby, and the hotel restaurant were very good. We have stayed there twice now and will stay again in the future.Ask for the jacuzzi room,it's worth the extra money.

The Duke of York
By giselle, 11/25/06
This is a quaint little hotel right on the York River. Service and rooms are always excellent. A wonderful get-away if you seek peace and a little beach to put your toes into. There is a great pub two doors down the street. There is also a great deal of early American history to absorb and especially if you enjoy walking.

Locker Room Smell
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/06
We stayed for a weekend during a Yorktown Special Event. The Hotel was not full. Most of the Guests to the event stayed here. Our room had a loose door that shook whenever anyone walked near it. The room was cold [January]. But most of all it smelled like an old gym locker. My visit to Yorktown was great, but the hotel was unfriendly and displeasing. After the night here and visiting the events, we quickly headed back up to Williamsburg to spend the next night and paid only 5.00 more for an amazing room with a continental breakfast!

First Timers
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/06
This was our first time at Yorktown and I looked at all of the other reviews before we got there...I knew I would leave right away if this place was a pit....needless to say, we would have stayed a month if we could have. Everything about this place was great, location, price, staff, and best of all the view from our room! We don't know how soon we could go back...but we will!!! Highly recommended for romance!
