43 reviews for Hyatt Regency Houston, Houston
Happily surprised....
By KarenI, 09/09/09
I was taking my husband to see the Houston Astros and wanted a hotel located close to the ballpark. After much research I chose the Hyatt Regency in Houston after speaking with a very helpful employee on the phone. I had read the negative - sometimes very bad - reviews and was a bit worried until the second I stepped into the lobby! Wow! So impressive! I found none of the problems I had read about in the reviews. The staff was so nice and very helpful, our room was immaculate, spacious and the bed was super comfortable. Yes - it would be nice if guests were offered a continental breakfast or at least something affordable. There is a small convenience store in the lobby but got a bagel and yogurt one morning and it was $7! One thing I would like to pass along to others is that this hotel is right downtown Houston and that area is DEAD on the weekend. I was told there were many shops and restaurants in the area and maybe there are but they are only open Monday thru Friday so being there for a weekend we were left searching to find affordable restaurants. Thank God for the Hard Rock Cafe and a small pub called Molly's (which I would definately recommend great food, great price, very friendly atmosphere)! The only other options are a handful of very pricey steakhouses. The Hyatt exceeded my expectations and I would definately consider staying there again if I ever get the chance to revisit Houston.

Not a family hotel
By P B, 03/19/09
We stayed here as a family because every place we were visiting in Houston was downtown so we wanted to be able to walk everywhere. The only reason I give it three stars is because the staff was VERY friendly. The valets were nice, the doorman was nice and played with the kids while we waited for our car, and the people at the desk were always really helpful. However, the room was SMALL, and we have a family of 5. The beds were rediculously small, as were the pillows. The floor felt sticky. Not what I expected a 4-star hotel to be like. The hotel entrance was really hard to find, even with GPS! And no breakfast? It served it's purpose while we were there, but we probably won't be back.

This must be what Hell is like
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/07/09
The hotel is fairly attractive but the "perks" this hotel provides are absolutly terrible. No breakfast, no paper, no free internet, beer costs $6, food is ridiculous with limited access to local restaraunts. The area it is in is a particularly isolated part of Houston and in general quite ugly. Need a shuttle? Prepare to pay! Hotel service staff are not particulary helpful and in some cases unpleasant. It seems like the television has nothing but Fox news. Yep, this is Hell.

We will never go back
By bk, 10/24/08
First of all, the beds were VERY small allong with the pillows. If you have to share a bed and you do not get the king, be aware! Next the pillows wever very uncomfortable. If you stay, get a room as far away from the evevators as possible. You can hear the "ting" on all thre evelators for just about every floor all night long. If you do manage to fall asleep, the you have to deal with the constant sirens for ambulances, police, etc that happened to go on at least 7 times the night we stayed. It just seemed like you can hear everything going on in the city. Some hotels I've stayed at in Chicago seemed more well insulated the noise. The $27.50 for parking seems like a bargin if you consider trying to find your own parking around this crowded town. I will stay away from the Houston area next time and get in the burbs when it's less crowded, noisy, and don't have to pay to park. Oh, and they are doing construction in the main lobby which all rooms will be affected by if you want to sleep past 8am. They do fail to mention that in their website.

Don't stay here
By Steve, 08/19/08
This hotel will charge you for a stay even if you cancel the reservation beforehand. I canceled my reservation because I had to leave a conference early, and they sent me a confirmation email stating that the reservation had been cancelled. There was no mention of a fee. Only until I got my credit card statement did I see they charged me for the stay. When I called they told me this is their policy. If your plans aren't definite, don't stay at this hotel!

Killed by smoke and food prices!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/02/07
Smoke horrible all over lobby and eeks into upstairs too! In lobby, they do NOT have smoking and non-smoking sections except for one couch in a far corner! I could not take a meeting in the lobby because of clouds of smoke and when I sat down (I was there five horrible days) a stupid smoker would sit right next to me and ruin my meeting or drink or food! I complained loudly but staff did nothing. Food prices ridiculously high in lobby restaurants and take-out food breakfast store too. Highway robbery! Staff is surly except waiters in lobby restaurant, poor things, try to please, but that's about the end of service. Beauty operators in salon snooty too and rude. Price too high too. Beds were wonderful. Maid service ok. Room we had was large but furniture old and worn.Desk chair broken, desk scratched, chipped. Parking price was $25 per day!!!!! We always liked Hyatt before this!

Never again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/07
The room was soooo small! It looked like a throw back from the 80's. Everything was OLD. There was rust around the a/c vents, the carpet was gross and the tv...oh my gosh it was a 19in 1990 Emerson. No radio system - just a 5in long ole school sunbeam digital alarm clock. Simply without class or luxury. Glasses and mugs in room were dirty. The room was ONLY big enough for a king bed, desk, chair and a old tv on a swivel. The only plus was that Benihana was across the street.

Elevator wait was horrible
By yadira, 07/11/07
in downtown so great location if you have downtown activities. I bought through priceline so got a good deal at 60 plus tax. The worst part was the elevator wait. We were on the top floor and some people said they waited about 30 minutes. The room was ok it has a stale musty smell. Ive also stayed at the double tree around the corner. MUCH BETTER place.

Awesome and relaxing!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/09/07
I stayed at the Hyatt Regency for one night with my girlfriend for a romantic evening around town. First off, the lobby was very nice and had an elegant feeling to it. The moment we walked through the revolving doors we were greeted by the friendly staff and the bell-hop gentleman. The whole check-in process took maybe 2 minutes and we were walked to our room. The elevators are very fast and nice with a TV in each one. We stayed on the 19th floor and were walked to our room by the bell-hop. Once in the room, he immediately placed our belongings in the room and asked if we needed anything and if we would like any ice in the ice bucket. The rooms we very nice. Not the largest rooms in the world, but enough room to be enjoyable. The beds were huge and had very nice linens on them and were very soft and comfortable. The bathroom had very nice granite countertops and flooring which gave the feel of your very own bathroom at your house. The pool is loacted on the 6th floor and changes all different colors at night, pretty cool. The only downside of the room was that it didn't have a refridgerator in it. We had purchased champagne earlier and had to cool it by placing it in the ice bucket for a couple of hours. The other drawback was the $27 valet parking service. They are quick to get your car for you before you get downstairs, you just call the extension and it's waiting for you. You can park in a lot nearby, but I didn't want my car sitting outside overnight. Nice service, just a little pricey to have someone park my car for me. We also, went up to the spindletop restuarant on the top floor which was a very neat concept. The hotel is pretty close to all of the major attractions in Houston. Overall, I had a very memorable and enjoyable experience and will definetely go back soon!! As for other reviews, I never experienced the smoke smell or the overcrowed elevators the entire time we were there.

BAD SERVICE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/20/07
The hotel overall was okay, I just DONT recommend anyone using the in-house "limo service" Bad service all the way around. First of all the towncar I ordered was 25 minutes late, without an apology from the driver. Second driver was completly lost in Houston-I knew more than he did. When the driver finally found the restaurant,he said he will wait in front for us. Well when we came out, there was no towncar, I called the limo service, a guy by the name of Omar answered,it sounded like he had no clue what was going on,he said the driver will be there in 5 minutes, well 20 minutes later no driver. I called again this time Joel(who was Omar but gave me a different name) answered the phone, he said the driver was around the corner, this time I kept him on the line until a car showed up 15 minutes later. The car that showed up was a different vehicle and driver. This driver could not get us back to the Hotel, he had to call the hotel and get directions! NEVER USE REGENT LIMO
