Emily has let herself go--nasty!
This place used to be a luxury hotel--NO MORE--unless your idea of luxury is staying in a dark, dirty old hotel where families of 12 are allowed to stay on one room. Also, BEWARE if you book a room on hotels.com, priceline, etc. We booked a plaza suite for $169 on hotels.com. ( In retrospect, I should have known; the last time I stayed there in a plaza suite, it was $389/nt. I thought it was the effects of the recession). I confirmed the reservation the morning of our check-in day. When we arrived, however, we were told the suite was not available. The "manager" told about six different stories as to why it was not available. The only option offered was a regular queen room, with no price adjustment. Never mind people were checking in who had paid $89 for a queen room! The "manager" was extremely rude and uncaring. When I finally told him to just refund the cost of our prepaid suite, he got even ruder and said I would have to get my money back from hotels.com. I said no problem, but I'm not leaving here until you give me some confirmation of the fact that the hotel was not honoring my prepaid reservation. I had to persist, but he eventually huffed off to another room to call hotels.com. In the good long time he kept us waiting, we were able to look around the lobby. It was dirty and dingy. There were hairy fat guys wearing tank tops and flip flops. Ma and Pa Kettle were there in matching Nascar t-shirts. There was a grown man sporting a mullet--yes, that's right, a mullet ( I haven't seen that hairdo on a man in years and years, except on "Cops"). There were huge families checking into one room. It was definitely not a luxury hotel crowd.
We weren't the only people having trouble. In fact, every single person who came to the front desk to check in while we were there did not get the room they had reserved. Everyone was upset. When the manager finally came back, he had a shocked look on his face. He had a hotels.com rep on the phone who had agreed to refund the entire amount of our reservation. It was only then he offered to comp our first night in the queen, and said that the suite would be ready the next day. By then, neither one of us wanted to spend one more second in that dirty, tacky place. We said no thank you and left. We book a room at the Grand Hyatt, which was wonderful. I would not recommend staying at the Emily Morgan unless you can get a super-cheap price and are not bothered by Motel 6-type conditions.
