If you want peace and quiet, DO NOT stay here!
By ,
This is a very classy hotel when it comes to looks. I have to stay here for two weeks due to training for a new job. Yesterday, on a Friday night, there was a loud rowdy bunch that checked into the room across from me. When I saw them, I kind of figured it was going to be a problem, in which, later on that night, it was. These young people were all up and down the hallway talking loud, singing, slamming doors, and acting like fools. I went down to the front desk, and they said they would send someone up here. I don't know if they did or not, but it quieted down a little, because I had to turn on my air conditioning unit to drown the noise out. The next day, (today) the same thing happened, but worse. These young people are all up and down the hall, singing, using profanity, slamming doors, talking loud, making out in the hallway, and so on. I just called the front desk, and they pretty much told me that there was nothing they could do because they "had so many events booked for the night'. The man told me that I could pack up all of my things and move all the way to the 10th floor to get away from the noise. I asked if someone could just come up and ask them to stay in their room, and he just kept telling me that once they quiet that group, there was sure to be more noise from the bachelorette party on the floor below me. It should be common sense that one room's occupants should not disturb anyone else that is paying money to stay in the hotel. The walls are paper thin, and you hear absolutely everything that the people in the next rooms are saying, whether they are on the phone or talking to someone in the room with them. The other night, there was a power outage in the whole hotel, and none of the staff offered any explanation of what was going on. Two hours after the power went out, (12:30 a.m.) the fire alarm went off and everybody in the hotel was asked to go outside. We stood outside in the cold for about twenty minutes, then was told that we could go back to our rooms. We had to sleep with no power all night long. I will admit that the hotel staff seemed nice and helpful, up until the point where the guy seemed agitated with me for complaining about all the noise. I complained about noisy, unruly people on the same hall with me, and they obviously sided with them. One more week here to go! I can't see myself coming back here to stay at this hotel.

We liked the location and everyone was very courteous and very helpful. Our son is a professor at UT so it was very convenient for us and him. We are planning another stay in November 2010.

Very hospitable but noisy.
By ,
The staff is very friendly and helpful from the parking valet to the front desk to housekeeping. Location is convenient to many of the venues. Room was clean and bed comfortable, although decor was showing its age. The only negative is that it is not well insulated so we heard, not only traffic noise and trains from outside, but tvs & conversations from adjacent rooms as well plus the icemaker and the service elevator. We had the hospitality suite rented for a weekend and were disappointed that it did not have a microwave oven (it did have a cook top and a regular oven, though) and only a small cube refrigerator that was unusable due to the ice built up in it. Despite this, we were happy with the hospitality shown to us.

Unpleasent at the least!
By ,
When I arrived at the hotel (3:00 pm), they said they didn't have a room ready yet and it would be another hour or two. So I took my luggage back to the car to visit a local shopping area. When I came back in to ask where I could find someplace to shop - they said it would be about 10 minutes after all! Go figure – back out to the car and bring in my luggage! When I got to the room - the tub was dirty (hair); a wash-cloth looked as though it had a stain on it which I don't want to imagine what it was? I came back to the lobby desk to talk with a hostess – when I walked up to the desk and waited for someone to get off their computer – she turned around and walked away without even noticing I was standing in front of her. Finally someone came out of the back and waited on me – I just wanted some directions to the shopping area! No refrigerator or microwave! I've never written a review before – but I thought this was noteworthy – I hope just not to stay in the same hotel again. I am a school board member for a county in North Tennessee.

Animal friendly - wow!
By ,
Thanks so much for allowing our poochies to stay with us when we travel. One small suggestion, although our doggie is perfect and does not bark, some of the other dogs in the neighboring rooms were barking like crazy when their mommies and daddys left. Maybe at check in you could ask if the dog is a barker and maybe keep them on a separate floor if it's available. Even with the barking we appreciate being able to bring our pooch. ps. Also would be nice if you are a priority club member that the dog fee could get waved. Also, the hotel staff was great, but the restaurant service was extreeeeemly slow and not very friendly. We have stayed here a couple of times and noticed the same everytime. thanks.

Always nice!

This is a great place to stay. Large, elegant hotel, located downtown. The University of Tennessee football players even stay here before their games. This is one of Knoxville's best.
