You get what you pay for

The Knoxville Hilton makes up for the tired mass-produced features of an 80s building, with an ambiance on the part of the staff that is middle america meets the south. I have never been treated poorly, but often have to ask for things to be fixed. There is one bar that closes by midnight (or earlier), one restaurant with two levels of service, old and somewhat slow elevators tucked away in a corner, and an outdoor pool that is closed at least 6 months of the year and is so shallow that lap swimming creates chop not unlike like swimming in the great lakes. Having said all of this, the rates are appropriate, it is safe, and well located. The staff are very responsive and friendly.By the end of the year I will have slept 40 nights here. My back is OK and, although I would likely choose another location if I need to come back, if necessary I would not refuse to stay there. The facility will, however, need to be upgraded significantly to meet the expectations of the traveling public.
