I used to work here.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/11/11
Ok. First of all, let me tell you that they wash the sheets everyday, but they wash the comforters maybe once a month, most of the time 2-3 months. the vacuum cleaners we were provided with sucked. as in, not literally of course. this place is SERIOUSLY run down. it´s extremely old, it just needs to be torn down, if you ask me. the manager is never around. honestly. i never saw her once. when i got the job, they didn´t even perform an interview. they clean the pool once or twice every 6 months. this place is filthy. no matter how much cleaning we maids did, the nastiness never goes away. mostly because of all the underage drinking parties that go on here. DO NOT BRING CHILDREN HERE. people have committed suicide at this motel. honest to god, do not stay here. i repeat, DO NOT STAY HERE.

Keep your expectations low...

Stayed for a family wedding reception that was held here. Although I rarely use the word ghetto when talking about South Dakota, it definitley describes this hotel. It was pretty cheap for the room rate, but you get what you pay for because almost everything about the hotel was rundown.

Graduation Weekend in Brookings
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/9/10
I booked the Staurolight Inn after I had exhausted every other motel in Brookings for the Friday night of spring graduation. Word of caution to parents of gradutating seniors: I booked in March; clearly one needs to book before then for a May graduation. I have camped and backpacked and have roughed it often and with little kids as well. We slept peacefully until the drunks next to us came to their room at 1:45. They broke something, yelled lots (especially the f word) and proceeded to smoke which filtered into our non-smokng room. I called the front desk once and someone did come up and ask them to be quiet which did not work. I callled again and the desk clerk told me she was alone with no security present on graduation weekend (with a casino on site as well). Of course, there was not a manager when we checked out. I was preoccupied with graduation and a reception until the afternoon and we do not get phone service in between our town and Brookings.. I called when I returned home but the assistant manager was gone and the manager had a family emergency. Funny--I did too. I was so tired, and upset that I could not enjoy my son's special day. Sadly, our maid had not replenished the tissues so I had to cry into my own all night.

Really is a nice place for the $
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/16/09
Was in Sioux Falls for a sports event - room rates in Sioux falls are OUTRAGEOUS during sporting events. Found this place and decided to take a risk considering rate was low. In my opinion, this place was great - granted not the Marriott, Sheraton, etc. - but it's great for the price $59/nt for standard double bedded room. Rooms were spacious and clean, beds comfortable, no holes in my blanket! Or, food under my bed. Food in restaurant was great, "home cooked" style and reasonably priced. Pool area was clean. So, yes, I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others not necessarily concerned with expensive amenities willing to save big bucks!

Bad Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/16/07
This is the dirtiest and most run-down motel I have stayed in. There was black mold creeping up the tile grout in the shower. The ceiling had been patched, poorly. I had to leave a note for the maids to clean up the spider webs. The sink drain was so slow it barely drained at all. Sand was imbedded in the carpet. Bulbs were burned out. The knob for the lights by the bed was gone, so required a pliers to turn them on. Get the drift? Don't bother with this one. I don't see it changing in the near future.

great place to stay
By David C, 7/21/07
we just had our wedding dance there and everything was just the way we wanted, and the service was great. We also stayed the night and thought the rooms were really great. Thats why i do not understand some of the other comments made by other people. We would tell other people to stay there.

Nice hotel for the money !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/12/07
The thing I found convusing about the other reviews is the cleanleness. Our room was very clean, with good bedding we had a nice stay. We will stay again. We used one of the free computer stations in the main lobby and had a nice Free breakfest.

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/06
What I liked best about this place was when I could finally leave! My blanket had a monstrous hole in it. There was food remnents on the floor. The dog in the next room was not kept at bay.

I'd rather stay at the Bate's Motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/06
DIRTY! Filthy! Smokey! Yuck! Please, just sleep in your vehicle! There are many other wonderful places to stay in Brookings such as on a park bench, a stranger's driveway, the police station. There is also a great Holiday Inn Express just across the highway. If you are concerned about your health, this isn't the hotel for you.

we will be back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/05
We enjoy the kiddie pool where the preschoolers can play in the water without being held the entire time. The service has always been great, and they even let us swim after hours when we arrived late. Very friendly, and a great location.
