Kings Courtyard Inn, Charleston

We were impressed with the location of this Inn. The shopping district is right on King Street; the City Market and restaurants are very strategically located and within walking distance. The room was clean; not large but adequate. The water pressure was low but we always had enough hot water. The staff (Tabitha, Lisa, James, Jennifer) were very pleasant and informative regarding things to do and types of restaurants near the inn. It was convenient to have complementary breakfast every morning and Tina, our waitress most mornings, was very nice, efficient and professional. Also, wine and cheese served in the afternoon helped curb our hunger until we had dinner, which was usually much later then normal for us! Overall, we were pleased with our accommodations. We would recommend this Inn. Our only problem was that it was the hottest week, but nothing the Inn could control.

Upon checking into the King's Courtyard on Friday evening, to my dismay I found that the fountains, as well as, the hot tub were dirty and green. I was somewhat dismayed that my first impression of the Inn after viewing it online must be wrong; however, I decided that in the southern humidity, algae is not easily controlled. I do think that a hot tub should be pristene - especially in the fall and winter when they are used more frequently by guest. Anyway, my biggest shock came the next morning when I discovered black curly "pubic" hairs in the bathtub - not just one but many. The discovery of a dirty tub made me then question whether the bed sheets were clean. I called down to the front desk and asked that someone come clean the tub - housekeeping showed up with a spray bottle and a rag. I would have expected better cleaning supplies. I then called downstairs and informed them I needed to checkout. They said they'd question the manager and let me know. After receiving the "okay", I checked out and asked for a credit due to the uncleanliness of the room - I was given a $36.00 credit. I do not feel that is appropriate given the situation. The entire area was less than acceptable by my standards - I only wanted an experience in an older hotel/Inn - but I demand that wherever I stay it must be clean. I've stayed in many bed and breakfasts before but none left such a bad impression as the King's Courtyard.
