Smoker Friendly Is Not Family Friendly

I have a long happy history with the Pleasant View Inn, going back to the early 1980's. The staff is friendly and the food is reasonably priced and good better than ever. The rooms are the rooms, a retro, sometimes dank but the beachfront rooms with balconies are very pleasant with a lot of ocean for the price. But there is a problem if you don't smoke or like smoke. Guests cannot smoke in the building, but they smoke freely and often on the grounds in high season. On a sunny July day in 2008, the small grassy strip between the hotel and the bar was full of not just cigarette smokers but guys with cigars in their Tommy Bahama shirts looking like bad guy extras off the set of Miami Vice. And they're walking around comfortably smoking them, sidestepping little kids and non-smokers as is their right. So if you like cigarettes and cigars, this is the place for you. And despite a hefty cleaning fee, in 2006 and 2008, we have managed to be booked next to smokers who continued their smoking inside their rooms which, the manager told us is not okay, but there you have it. I expect it at Foxwoods, not at the Pleasant View. The Terra Nova family needs to Just Say No and bring the place into the twenty-first century because a smoker friendly resort is not a family friendly resort.
