Beware-not the greatest hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/26/10
This was one of my worst experiences that I have had at a Westin. For the cost I could have done a lot better. Claim to have free shuttle service for downtown areas but since it was on the weekend there was no shuttle service, so they should make sure it states "this is offered at their discretion." For the price it should had atleast a continental breakfast or provided microwaves in the rooms. Bathroom was okay, water took forever to drain in the tub after taking a shower. Beware not the greatest hotel for the money. Will not stay here again.

WORST hotel I EVER stayed in!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/07
My friend and I took our two year old sons to see The Wiggles and decided to stay at this hotel mainly because it offered free shuttle to the arena we were going to. Everything was fine up until the shuttle was supposed to pick us up, We waited outside the arena on hard concrete with no food or drinks and a two year old and 20 month old for an HOUR and A HALF! This hotel also charged us $20 to park there and the "CONTINENTAL" breakfast was $11. All 4 restaurants this hotel boasts about were open by the time we got back, it was only 6:30. The pizza parlor was only open in the morning because I guess people in Pittsburgh only eat pizza in the morning. They made it impossible to get food other than room service. We were given $30 towards room service, nice but us just ordering a cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, and chicken nuggets for the boys (no drinks or any type of dessert) it was $60, defnitely didn't expect that expense. Neither did we expect we would have to pay to park at this hotel that we were paying for. Thankfully we brought food for breakfast because the "continental" breakfast which is free anywhere else I had ever stayed, cost $11 and all it consisted of was cereal, yogurt, and bagels. We also had called down to get a bed rail that they specifically listed in their guest services book for my friends son and at first they weren't even aware they offered them and then we waited 35 minutes for them to bring it up. I just couldn't believe that the manager we were given to talk to tried to make excuses for the shuttle service and could only offer us a $30 off our room service for waiting an hour and a half with toddlers on a 55 mph road! Definitely will not be staying there again!

WARNING!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/20/07
This is the worst facility I have ever encountered. The commode in the our room was filthy, we were moved to a second room, that commode was also dirty. The elevators and escalators were both broke down more then they worked during our 3 day stay. The stairs were nasty dirty, this place scared the children. The staff was curt to say the least, to top it off, I paid an extravigant fee for valet parking, only to have them lose my vehicle, it took over 1 1/2 hours for them to admit they lost the key, finally it was found, did the manage appologize or address the situation, not as of today, two days later, I waited for a response before I left a feedback, I wait no more!! NASTY BAD!!

Great location, nice rooms, poor service
By Christian, 03/09/07
Was at a convention so it was convenient. I couldn't get the convention rate so I had to pay almost $200 a night. The beds are wonderful and the rooms are a good size. The staff need a bit of help. The people at the front desk are less than helpful but the concierge during the daytime was very nice as was the guy during the evening. Overall I was pleased with rooms and most things except the front desk. I was billed for a movie I never ordered and the guy at the desk looked at me as if to say "yea right you didn't order it" as he took it off my bill. I would probably return at a lower price.

Didn't Meet Expectations
By JenniferM, 10/03/06
We stayed at the Westin for a long weekend in Pittsburgh and honestly it just didn't meet my expectations. Immediately upon arrival, we were met by the doorman who was not very pleasant. He did not offer to remove our luggage from the car, so we lugged it in ourselves. The room was nice (but pretty average and comparable to rooms that we have stayed in for a lot less money) We had to call down to have a bath towel removed from our toilet and to request an additional bath robe, neither request received a prompt response. We ended up calling back down to the front desk a few hours later to "remind" them. The views were nice from the room. The entire hotel is non-smoking which (I think) is absurd, but I am a smoker. Nothing is included in the price, except the room - you can order room service but the prices are nuts! The "Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Shower" were nothing special. The bed was really firm and the comforter was so heavy you needed two people just to lift it on top of you. Overall, it was just okay. I would stay again, if it was my only option.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/06
perfect location to attend convention, easy indoor access to convention center. Prompt sevice. Very comfortable bed. Only bad thing is the price of parking, but fortunately I had seen a review suggesting to park at the ninth and penn parking garage, parked on Thursday, left on Sunday $25. total, Westin garage is $20/day

A big disappointment
By Sara, 07/31/06
I've always read negative hotel reviews and thought the contributors to be fussy, crabby, hard-to-please complainers... but this time, I understand their reasons for venting/warning. My husband and I were hoping to find a downtown spot in Pittsburgh within walking distance to shops and restaurants. It was our first Pittsburgh experience so we splurged on the high-end hotel. Big mistake. The area surrounding the hotel does not lend itself to walking. We also live in an urban area but luckily our home city cleans its well-lit streets. The area around the Westin felt unsafe and was really gross! The two major reasons I'm writing this review is 1) the parking is ridiculous- we were told to leave the lot (in a very rude manner) once we entered because "the lot is full-get out now." Apparently the lot is not owned by the hotel (though it is located underneathe it...) and it is outdated and understaffed. Paying the $22 for valet was actually cheaper than coming and going during our one night stay. 2.) There was a major water-main break the morning of our stay (though "not as bad as last year's" we were told... we won't be around for next year's!) so we had no water but were kindly offered "the two water bottles in the room at no charge." Sigh... It was a very disappointing stay at $180! Hope this helps.

Great Hotel for a Great City
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/01/06
New to the Pittsburgh area, my fiance and I spent a Friday night in the city while meeting with our realtor. We randomly chose to stay at the Westin, but were pleasantly pleased with every facet of our stay. The hotel itself is in a very historic area of the city, close to both the Strip District and the river. Our room was nicely furnished, and the ammenities went beyond our expecatations. The only drawback we found to our entire experience was the service at The Original Fish Market, which was ridiculously-slow. I would recommend this to anyone visiting, but probably not families--the pool and atmosphere is definetely adult- and business-oriented.

Unsatisfactory!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/06
Service was unacceptable. WE ordered breakfast one morning and it took over an hour to arrive! When we called to check out amenities, we wondered whether there was smoking or not. No one ever called us back. The televison constantly locked up and the hotel game service would not work as well! Beds were uncomfortable and ard to sleep in. Not recommendable to friends and definantly has some work to be done on service!
