Ugh.
Found this place online. Wanted a little getaway with the kids to go snow tubing and enjoy some other winter recreation & this place looked great online. Arrived last night. The parking lot wasn't really cleared. Ended up almost losing my car over the edge of the cliff at the bottom of the parking lot, after it slid down the ice (almost taking out several parked cars!). Asked at the front desk if they could help me move the car since I was now blocking 4 other cars from getting out and couldn't get the car to move because of the ice. They had one guy, a very petite man come out to help me. All he was able to do was throw down some salt. Managed to get the car half pulled into a parking space.
The building is old and not well maintained. The decor screams 1990 and there are scuff marks and chips in the paint. The furniture is beat up looking. They are doing some renovations, though (which I wasn't informed of). The floor number light on the elevator is broken. Got out on our floor and the console table in the elevator lobby had a half inch of dust on it (which might be from the renovation but doesn't housekeeping know you are supposed to dust it? I made a hand print in the dust and it's still there right now.
The room. Wow. It was huge but really stupidly set up. The tv is all the way down one end and there is no way to comfortably watch it from either bed. There is a sofa that looks like it's seen better days and a really uncomfortable chair (neither of which face the tv).
The bathroom is unheated. Doesn't even have a heat vent or radiator or exhaust fan. It was about 14 degrees out last night so you can imagine what THAT felt like.
The shower head was loose and wobbly. I couldn't adjust the water temperature to anywhere near comfortable. It was either cold or scalding hot, no middle ground. Not enough towels, either.
Mattresses are super uncomfortable. I ended up sleeping the second half of the night on the floor. Which, btw, is sloping. As in, if you put a marble on the floor it would roll to the other end of the room. This makes the beds slope, which feels like you are sliding off the bed. Oh, and did I mention the stairs when I first walked into the room? Yeah, no warning about the two steps that I almost fell down when I came in carrying luggage and twisted my ankle. Good thing I wasn't planning on skiing!
The ceiling in the room is super low - probably not even 7 feet and the walls slope, like an attic. There are water stains on the ceiling in both the bedroom & bathroom. The room was supposed to have "breathtaking mountain views" but all I see out the windows is part of the second floor roof and a parking lot.
The breakfast buffet was GROSS. Cold and not much selection ($10 per person). They add in a gratuity but when I put cash in the folder, nobody came over to take it and get me change, so they ended up getting a bigger tip because I just couldn't handle waiting for them after about 20 minutes.
Drinks in the bar are relatively cheap but the sodas in the vending machine are not. The pool looks nice and I will probably spend some time in there today. If we weren't under a winter weather advisory right now, I'd have checked out this morning and forgotten about this place. I'm really looking forward to leaving tomorrow.
There are several lovely fireplaces in the common areas of the lodge (diningroom, lobby, bar, etc) that have beautiful birch logs in them but they are never lit. Unfortunate, because the lobby looks like the most comfortable room in the place.
I'd complain to the manager but after seeing all the other reviews on here, I'm sure complaints are nothing new around here and, honestly, I'm a little scared that they'll just offer me a free night's stay or something.
I wish I had the foresight to read these reviews before I booked this place.
The only good things I can say is the front desk staff and the bartenders are friendly. The rest of the staff, not so much.
