Costs too much for what you get
By jaygee, 07/26/08
The whole place needs a face lift. Our room looked like they tried to remodel, but all they did was cover up. The wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom, water went all over the floor when we showered, and some of the ceiling tiles were water stained. The microwave/stove/fridge were old and needed to be replaced or removed. I think it was severely overpriced, and to top it off, breakfast wasn't complimentary. Even after finding that breakfast wasn't comp, we still ate there because our small children were hungry. The pancakes were so tough to cut I practically needed a steak knife! They were obviously being kept warm, not freshly made. The food was terribly overpriced for what you got. I couldn't wait to leave!

Great if going to the PGH Zoo
By Rocky Raccoon, 06/24/08
The hotel does not look like much from the outside but I was impressed with how clean and fresh the room was. Got a great rate for a hotel in Pittsburgh. Hotel was only 5 miles from the Pittsburgh Zoo and since that was our destination in the morning that was the reason for our stay. Breakfast was a little on the expensive side, and just okay, but kids ate for free. Positives: Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Negatives: One was that the light switch near the door turn the television on and off. Took some time to figure out why the TV was not working. Biggest negative for me was that there was no luggage carts which meant several trips to the car to get all the bags in and out again! Would recommend for anyone that is going to the Pittsburgh Zoo the next morning.

made it a long stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/07
the room was mildew in smell, the toilet was backed up and the soap was used when I arrived. The bed sheets were soiled and needed changing. The bed was hard but the pillows were great! I liked the internet connection and treadmill. The breafast was great and even though the room service was quick and the phone operator was very cordial, the shishkabob tasted like it was from a heat lamp buffet. The rest of the hotel seemed clean and my dry cleaning came back timely and done well. The service was helpful and polite. The reservation howerve was very mixed up and my bill was not correct. overall it was a long two weeks.

Hotel Staff wonderful, Food and Beverage Staff Absolutely horrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/07
I recently stayed at the hotel for a week for business. I typically say there once a month and will never stay again. The check in and check out experience was wonderful as always...the maids were helpful and friendly. As far as the hotel itself, my experience was fantastic. Now for the dining experience..ridiculous!!! Everything I tried to order at breakfast they were "out of'. My dinners (all of them..I was without a vehicle and a captured audience) were horrible!! The worst part though was the manager I was directed to. First of all, I don't know what hours she keeps but I sure had a heck of a time locating her actually in the building. When I did catch up with her it was almost comical. The first thing she told me as she finally came in one day around noon with her stomach hanging out from her shirt was that she was the "big boss" and if I have a problem she was the one to talk to. She informed her company has nothing to do with the hotel and that she does not report to anybody. I find that hard to believe! She inferred I was complaining to ge something free...I just wanted what I ordered. She told she was the director of food and beverage. I think somebody should re think the type of person represnting the company. She was the most unproffesional, absurd, downright vulgar person I have ever dealt with.

Great New Years' Package!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/26/06
This is perhaps the best New Years' deal in town. For around $200 per couple, you get a clean, comfortable room, a 5-course dinner, an UNLIMITED open bar (one of the last venues doing this in Pittsburgh)dancing, party favors, and the like. Top it off with late check out the next afternoon and you've got a great way to ring in 2007. Like last year, sitter issues prevented us from looking for a place to go until about a week before New Years Eve. Much to our delight, the Holiday Inn was accomodating. This is (until this review I guess) the best kept New Years Eve secret in the area.

Decent value, clean rooms, unpublicized but fast free internet
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/04
I've stayed here several times on business because it is within
walking distance of my employer's branch office.

Let's be clear. This place is very dated. It looks like it
was built in the 1960s. Your room is likely to be
a long walk from the lobby, because every room seems to
on the ground level and there seems to be 100s of rooms.
Nonetheless, it has a full bar and restaurant (which modern
business hotels don't), 24 hour front desk (something else
that seems to be dying in the hotel business), and, though
you've got to hunt for it, free high speed internet.
Most hotels have a little placard in each room with
instructions on how to use the broadband internet. The
Holiday Inn Allegheny apparently assumes that nerds will
find what they need. (I didn't know there was internet, till
one of my co-workers told me about it the next day .. sure enough,
hidden behind the desk was a cat 5 jack to plug into). This
no doubt accounts for why the hotel's internet is so fast
and responsiveness: none of the other guests know about it,
so I must have it all to myself. :-)

For the price, this hotel is an excellent deal.
