We loved it here
By toastys'mores, 07/11/07
We stayed here in June of 2007 and had a wonderful time. I highly reccomend this place, it is clean, fun, convenient, and right in the middle of Amish country. Take the free tour, we were so glad we did.Mim was our guide and very informative about the Amish. The pretzels at the Amish roadside stand are to die for, do not miss some home made rootbeer! We were not too impressed with the candle comapny except the kids liked the petting zoo.Their ice cream was excellent.Slow down for horse and Buggies! I couldn't give the motel 5 stars for cleanliness because there were some hairs in the tub upon arrival, I know how easy this can happen being a cleaning lady myself but still it shouldn't. Our ac didn't work the first night and we had to open our door for a while to let some cool air in , we felt safe enough doing this and I told the chambermaid( a nice Amish lady) about it in the morning and when we came back in the afternon it was fixed.Service I also couldn't give a five because there were not enough towels in our room for the four of us, and I had to call the office three times for our cot, it was late and my son wanted to go to bed.It took them several hours to get it to us.These are little things in the grand scheme of things though and we would definatly stay here again when we go back.We paid $100 a night for weekdays and $125 a night for weekend so not the $49 it says on here that's probably an off season rate.

Not so great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/08/07
This was our second trip to the Strasburg area to see the train museum and ride the train. We decided to spend a little more money than usual for a nicer room - we stayed in a standard size room. The room was large enough for us (2 adults and 2 toddlers). About 10 minutes in, husband killed a very large insect on the floor. The floors were FILTHY. We had to keep shoes on the kids and wash their feet (and ours) before getting into bed. The night we arrived it was raining very hard and the room was damp for the next 4 days. There was mold on the floor around the tub. We chose this hotel in part because it offered wi-fi internet - necessary for husband's schooling. We could only get connected in the hallway; once in the room, the connection dropped off. We needed a microwave for our baby's bottle and had to use the one near the pool area that required quarters for it to function. This hotel has a 3 star rating b/c of the pools. That part of the inn appears to be new construction. The rest of the inn is older. We ate at the adjacent restaurant and the food was not great, but our kids ate free. I guess we should have known when we only saw white haired people entering (nothing against Senior citizens - just not first choice for younger families). There were only 2 other families there with children.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/19/07
it was a quaint darling inn! we havent been in about 3 years but i am making plans right now to go back! my husband desperately needs a rest! there is no better place to rest then bird in hand family inn!!! while he rests, me and the girls can play and stay on the property n case he wants to meet up and play with us. lol. there are plenty of things to do, swim, relax in the hot tub, play arcade games or just go to the restaurant to eat! then check out the sites in town, like the school house, or the bird in hand village... i love it!!!! we love it!!

Outstanding hotel in quiet setting
By A Yahoo! User, 06/04/06
We have been going to Bird in Hand for years now and it gets better and better. An outstanding staff and beautifully maintained grounds only enhance the feeling of getting away from it all.The restaurant was a little disapointing the last time we were there but everyone is entitled to a hiccup. We will be back again. Thanks from Connecticut

A MUST stay AMISH Hotel
By amyw, 08/26/05
We just returned from our 2 nite stay at the BIRD-IN-HAND FAMILY INN Hotel. We were impressed from when we walked into the reception area. Sign uo for the VIP program, you will save a lot of $$ at near by merchants and the 2 hr FREE tour is SO worth the stay. A TRUE learning experience. Great for familes and singles, alike. The noise level was at a low, from room to room. Rooms were really big and the furnishings were impecible. The bathroom vanity area had a coffee maker and blow dryer. An iron was a nicee addition hiddden inteh chest of drawers. The oniste resturant was the BEST. Do stay for the buffett, you will NOT be disappointed. Next door is the BAKERY, filed w/ meats, jellies, pretzels and crafts. I can;t wait to plan our NEXT trip to one of theor properties.

We come back every year now!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/17/05
Feels like home... everyone is so nice and polite. Also the free bus tour of the Amish farms is great. We always come down to Bird in Hand mainly to see the play that is featured at the Sight and Sound Millenium Theatre, but wouldn't want to try a different Inn while we are there. Also... the Inn has everything for the whole family to do. The minature golf courses and the 3 pools make it all worth while. Julie Hare
