Room 129 - An experience like none other. The door knob looked like it had been beaten by a hammer. Then upon entering, the musty smell hits you in the face. Then you look at the two bedspreads (two double beds) and see a large hole in the bed nearest to you and then holes along the bottom on the second (sure did look like a mouse/rat ate through at that point). Lift the bedspread to espose the side boards under the mattress and see all the "stuff" that has accumulated over time (who knows how long) that has never been threatened by a vacuum cleaner. Candy wrappers laying up against the wall in areas where it would take a little effort for housekeeping to bend over to pick them up. And it took a maintenance man to figure out the combinations to get the TV to work (press a button on the little box on top of the TV, press "power on" on the TV, when the TV comes on with Channel 2, you have to go one channel up to Channel 3. Then while the maintenance man was there, he checked the "lack of airflow" from the A/C. When he removed the front cover, the filter looked like it had not been cleaned in 2 or more years. I suggested the motel get him a ShopVac or something like that, and he left and returned with one and vacuumed out tons of lint/dirt/etc. He took the removable filter to the laundry room and cleaned it. It didn't look like the same filter when he returned to install it. Then, glancing out the window, I noticed it was cloudy (either dirty or clouded up with age).
As far as the bathroom, the shower and commode worked (which was a welcome relief); however, the vent fan didn't (be prepared to have your own bathroom spray when you stay).
And the entire time we were there, we fought flies. When we killed one, two more would appear. I guess they were hatching out somewhere.
Hey - It was only $40-something a night, and it was close to the function we were attending, so we opted to ride it out for two nights (vs driving over to Shawnee, OK and paying $90-plus a night).
I did forget to comment on having to wait on the desk clerk 30 minutes when we checked in (she had left a sign about being back in a moment). Her 30-plus minute moment kept several people waiting to check in (and sent a truck driver delivering four A/C's to the hotel on down the road when he got tired of waiting).
Oh yeah, one other thing. The donuts in the hospitality room on Sunday morning needed someone to sing "happy birthday" to them. They were old and getting older by the minute. And the last thing I'll mention - you had to know to REMOVE the front of the ice machine to get it to give you ice. We always knew we would have plenty of ice, as we felt we were about the only ones in the whole hotel who figured that out and knew how to do it.
The place will only continue to go downhill, so I figure the next time we'll be better off sleeping in the car. They are building a new motel in Seminole (a Best Western), but I bet it will be very difficult to get a room.
