HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN
By ,
this place was horrible, it was the only hotel available because it was july 4th weekend. There were dead roaches in the hotel room, visible where the cleaning person should have seen and cleaned up. under the beds were empty beer cans along with more dead roaches. ice machines not working. at pool area persons would just park their car and use the pool. On our last day after checkout my kids went into the pool before our trip back to ny and was told that due to insurance reasons they could not use the pool. Mind you we stood in this horrible place for 2 days. i will never ever stay here again and will never ever recommend this place. it should be closed down. It smells and its not kept up. In main reception area place is dusty and dirty, not updated or clean. we did not dare have continental breakfast because of how filthy the place was. it was a horrible experience our first time in wilmington visitng family.

Who Can You Believe?
By ,
I am always amazed at the difference in satisfaction levels of different people staying at the same place. My opinion of the Carolinian is that it is an older motel but it is well maintained and clean. I have stayed at the "econo" places and at the Motels with numbers like 6 o 8 attached but The Carolinian was a much more pleasant experience for my wife and me. It has a classic retro feel which is almost European in nature. There were people staying there from Germany and France and they were friendly and seemed pleased as we chatted in the breakfast room. The staff were friendly and very helpful when we needed directions. The fact is that there can be problems that arise at any place. I will be staying at The Carolinian in the future and IF there is a problem I have no doubt the staff will do whatever they can to take care of it.

DISGUSTING
By ,
This place is horrid. It smells putrid, we had several gigantic dead cockroaches, and the A/C quit working in the middle of the night. The entire place is rotting away and smells of mold. Then, after having NO air in July plus roaches, the person on duty would not refund our money without a manager, who mysteriously never showed up. I would rather sleep on the street or my car than here. Seriously disturbing and the health department should shut it down. Filthy.

Great Stay
By ,
We thought it was a very nice place to stay. We had only one real issue and that was that in the morning there was no hot water. We called the front desk and they offered to let us try another room to shower in and said they would be right there to get ours fixed. We however did not need the other room and or room was fixed and we had hot water. The man at the front desk I believe his name was( Marvin) if I am incorrect I apologize,he was so very nice.He was training a new person and the two of them were polite and nice. I checked on the Bed Bug Scare and our room had nothing of the sort! The hotel does have a little musty smell but it is old and no the smell did not travel with us in our clothes! All in all it was a Great Stay and we will stay there again!

Definitely will go back!
By ,
This is an older hotel, but maintained well. The staff is excellent, friendly and helpful! The room was large with a comfy bed. Also the Wifi and big TV were great, also had tons of channels. The pool is clean and great place to relax. Would definitely recommend this to my friends and family.

BED BUG ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By ,
My husband AND I read The Carolinian website that read "For a stay you won't forget and hospitality beyond your expectations, skip … North Carolina's most relaxing lodging destination, the Carolinian Inn," and were very excited because we had such low rates! We booked our stay for 4 nights but ended up leaving after the 2nd night. However it turns out not only was the hospitality a nightmare, we got bit by BED BUGS and woke up the next morning with welts and itchy bites all over our bodies. The hotel staff was very nice and apologized for the inconvenience however the owner/manager of the hotel, Laxman Odedra, was terrible. He pretended as if he had never heard of the problem as he was flipping through his complaint book. Me and my husband we in pain and were forced to go out to the store to buy antihistamines and other topical solutions to the BED BUG irritations. We asked that the hotel compensate fore items we bought at the drug store costing less than $15.00. He was unprofessional and rude. Not only did the owner, LAXMAN ODEDRA, refuse to cover the medication cost for the bites we acquired from staying in his hotel, he refused to give me his name!!!! The next day my husband found out. PLEASE beware when booking your vacation stay here. It ruined our first few days. We checked out after two days! And stayed somewhere else which definitely did not have bed bugs!!!!!! (WE STAYED IN ROOM 112 IF THAT HELPS)

Very Satisfied
By ,
I viewed the rooms of 2 other hotels on Market street and one had a live cock roach right on the night stand and the other had a lg dead one sticking out from under the floor lamp. I had read reviews and planned on booking at the Carolinian prior to going, but once we were there my husband decided to pick the first hotels we stumbled upon. We were tired, it was late and we hadn't ate. As we stopped at a restaurant to eat that had wi-fi I pulled out my laptop, pulled up the Carolinian, showed it to my husband and then made the call. We decided to drive down the road and go to the Carolinian. The night clerk stated that he could not show us the room at night and because I was so concerned about bugs and the cleanliness he suggested that I not stay because I would not be happy. He assured me that they sprayed regularly to not have bugs but that he could not guarantee that I would not see any because we were near water, humidity and in an atmosphere that I guess has lots of bugs. I booked the room and told him if I checked in and decided I did not want to stay could I just get my money back and he assured me I could if I did not stay in the room long. I proved him wrong (we stayed) and not just the one night but 2. I highly recommend this Inn. The price was more than right, it is very close to the beaches and downtown WIlmington. Lots of nice restaurants close by, continental breakfast in the lobby, very nice and personable staff (at least while I was there). The room was clean, everything worked well, the air, the refridgerator, the microwave, the outlets. I never saw one bug in the room while we were there. The Inn is so cozy, but it is an older Inn so don't expect newer furniture but unless you plan your trips and enjoyment around the furniture in the rooms I say the Carolinian is money well spent. Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself. I'm just sharing my experience and when I stay in a hotel room I don't like sharing it with cockroaches and I surely don't want to take any unwanted guests back to my home so I am very particular and I have to also watch the price I pay. So may I reiterate once again. MONEY WELL SPENT and definitely will stay there again next time I am in Wilmington.

Good Value, Nice place to stay
By ,
The place was clean! It is an old motel, but was newly renovated with a comfortable bed. There was a nice pool that was open late into the evening. The Carolinian Inn is between the Historic district and the beach. It seemed like a safe area, but it was not within walking distance to any attractions. There was a Continental Breakfast, coffee pot and refrigerator in the room, good water pressure in the shower and lots of hot water.

Never again
By ,
We visited "The Carolinian Inn" and was very disappointed in our visit. When we arrived, we thought it was a nice place with a pool in the center of all the rooms(front of building); giving you the feel of a cottage. First problem- first room...we get the key to our room, go to our room and someone else is in the room. We go back to front desk and they tell us they don't know who is the room...no record in computer of who is in this room. So they send us back to this room and a maid is there this time telling us someone is in the room but they don't know who. Second problem-second room: since there is no rooms available(king size) on the front of hotel; we get a room(double beds) in the back. The back of this hotel doesn't look anything like the front of the hotel. Disgusting and just nasty. Once we enter the room we try to decide if we really want to stay because at this point we're tired.. while discussing this I happened to look up and there on one of the beds there are bugs. DEAD BUGS on the spread, on the pillow, and under the pillow. What kind they were , I don't know. . didn't need to know. WE WERE OUT OF THERE!!!!!!!!!!! This lets me know that the rooms in the back were not cleaned or maintained. We go back to the front desk, let them know of what we found, show the pictures; yes I took pictures , received our money back and left this place never to return. The older gentleman was very polite through all this but the place itself needs help especially in the rear of hotel. It was like you were living in two differents parts of town.
