Villa Roma Resort and Conference Center, Callicoon

We had a wonderful time. The accommodations were good except for the fact that they run out of hot water at approx. 5pm when everyone is taking a shower.

The place is beautiful. Alot of activities for the whole family. I have a 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 yr old children and my oldest went swimming in indoor pool, horseback riding for about 15 mins, and bowling for the first time. Everyone was polite and helpful. We loved the food. The dining experince was a pleasure as well. Especially the main dining. I will definitely recommend and I will go back again.

We have been going to VR as a Timeshare owner since 1991. You will find that different seasons provide different amenities and before you go, you must understand that. If you like outdoor activites like a pool, horseback riding, golf etc., then the summer is the time for you to go. The place is packed, entertainment most of the day and then again at night. All entertainment is FREE. Drinks are reasonable. Plenty to do. I can see where some people will get bored in the months when the pool is closed and there is still no snow but.. there is still Bowling, golf, racketball, tennis, bocci, OTB, nightclub and Marty's lounge, coordinated activities, etc. (to mention a few things) to entertain yourself but YOU must get involved and WANT to participate. I have spent numerous consecutive days up there when it rained every day but we still managed to have a GREAT time with the other guests and the staff. Ther seems to be always something to do if you choose to mingle and get involved. One time we got togethher with other guests and just had a big party in each others rooms. If you go with your children, they have trustworthy counselors that entertain the children very safely for hours at a time. Some of the kids can't wait to go back the following year just to see the counselors again. We suffered through the construction for 2 or 3 years BUT, when I got up there last week I must say it was well worth the wait. The main building has been reconstructed from the ground up. EVERYTHING is new and done with exquisite taste in decor. The dining room, Marty's Lounge, the lobby, even the bathrooms in the main are stunning. I own 2 weeks of timeshare at VR and I go there every summer and trade my other week. I would consider myself an experienced traveler. Some of the other Places I've been don't make beds everyday without an extra charge, don't change towels everyday. Some give you linens to change them yourself. I opened the door to my room and it was completely rennovated. Everything from new bathrooms, kitchen cabinets, floors, rugs, furniture appliances, Granite counter tops, drapes, beds and bedding, Flatscreen TV with built-in DVD player was NEW. We as timeshare owners have been informed at the owners meeting up there that ALL the rooms are being done over as mine was already. Of course everyone understands that this will take some time. The Resort is on a serious mission to upscale its rating to an "ELITE" status and I have no doubt that they will achieve it as they achieved the "5 Star" Golf Resort staus years ago before the fire. All that damage and constuction is behind us now and I am proud to be a Timeshare owner at VR. My son and his family have also become an owner this year as is the case with many many families that go there. VR is a Family Tradition and it will remain that way long after I am gone. I highly recommend a visit there but you must go there with the intention of having a good time and taking it all in. The countryside, small towns and helpful locals and business owners in both Callicoon and Jeffersonvile are an important part of the VR experience. It is more than a clean room and excellent service. I guess I should mentioon what is not so good. The nightclub can use a facelift. The red carpeted walls and gold draped stage were dated 10 years ago. I do understand however that plans have already been developed to renneovate the nightclub as VR is updating its status in the hopes of attracting beauty pagents to take place there. (I still happen to enjoy the nightclub as it is). In closing, Go there and have a BALL! (Week 33 member)

I've been going here every year of my life, have not missed one year. This place is great, there really is so much to do. The rooms are always clean and the staff are always friendly. The new building is incredible and the pool area looks great as well. The only people who complain about this place are the first timers who don't really know how to do things there. I'm an amazingly pleased, yearly timeshare guest and it will most likely stay that way.

me and my family owm multible amounts of timeshares during the summer, last year we went up 3 of the weeks. not only do we love villa roma but me and my two sisters would rather go there then Disney world. owning a timesharing gives u the benafits to meet new people ur age. i cant even tell you the amount of friends we have up there. me and my two sisters do the talent show everyyear andd just have a blast with are friends alsoo known as the ''three bees and gang.'' and the best thing is everyone comes back the next year. so u see familiar faces.. and plus we basicalllyy know the whole staff. villa roma is basically our second home.:) there is soo many activities going on , something knew every hour from horse races to shuffle bourd bocce and ping pong tournaments. they have an indoor pool two outdoor pools one including a waterslide. A hugeee jequzzi and a fun water park 1 1/2 foot pool. as well as a separate kiddie pool.they have horse back riding and go karts.. i do not know how pople can say there is absolutly nothing to do.

If I could give this place half a star, I would. I just came back from the resort on a class trip and it was the THE WORST vacation experience that i have ever encountered. Nothing was free. It seemed as if they wanted to make a profit on everything. Even on heat. Of all places, you would expect a hotel that's located on a snowy mountain to have a decent heating system. Instead, the hallways were so freezing I was able to see my breath in the air. In addition, the hallways smelled. Imagine an aroma containing a mixture of smoke and dirty diapers. The rooms were clean but were nothing special. The rooms were nothing more than the rooms of an average motel. There were hardly any activities there besides the ones that cost money (a lot of money by the way). One example of a "fun-filled" activity is shuffle board, which only reminded me of a nursing home activity. The food was ok, but the service was TERRIBLE. One morning, I went to the restaurant for breakfast and I had to wait for 40 minutes before a waiter actually took my order. The waiter would disappear for 15 minutes, and when he did appear again, I would ask him when he or someone else would take my order. The waiter just kept saying that someone will be with me in a minute, but no one did. When I finally got my order down, I had to wait another half an hour for the waiter to appear with my food. During another meal, my friend asked our waitress for orange juice and she snapped back in an annoying/mean tone, "I'll be there with you soon." Well, she kept her promise, though "soon" meant 15 minutes later. They also lie about things that they say are included in the activities, such as the ski package. I never got the helmet, goggles, or ski poles that were stated on the paper. They also did not have ice skating even though they said they would. I only spent $300 for 2 nights because it was a class trip, but honestly, it was not even worth $300 especially since they force you to pay for everything else. In conclusion, DON'T GO HERE! I sure won't make that mistake ever again.

While the newly renovated Villa Roma is beautiful, they do everything to cutback on services offered during the week so that the stay becomes boring this time of year. The only positive was a night manager who got the people involved (all 12 of us) in the lounge at night or we would have gone stir crazy! I'm sure it will be better during the summer but in the meantime they need to rethink fall/winter and come up with some new activities and cheaper rates to compensate for the lack of things to do.

We were at Villa Roma on a Getaway and really enjoyed our time there. The entertainment every night was very good, the leisure facilities being under a roof made them accessible regardless of the weather. As some others have observed, a negative is the exhorbitant charge for wireless internet service. We found lots of interesting stuff to do within an hour of the resort. The new hotel is awesome. We will definitely be going back again!

The scenery was lovely and the unit was large and well-equipped, very clean, comfortable beds. But the hallway in our building smelled awful, like dirty laundry. We mentioned it to the desk but nothing was done to change the situation. There was construction nearby but that noise did not bother me as much as the noise inside. We could hear doors slamming, televisions blaring and other people talking. The people in the unit above us apparently liked to move furniture around because they did it a lot. Our biggest complaint, however, was that when we came back to our unit after being gone all day on Wednesday, our door was propped open with a chair and all the lights were on. That is definitely not the way we left it. We called the desk and informed them, they did not know what happened. Nothing was missing or damaged but we did think an explanation or an apology was in order. No one bothered. We checked out two days early. We will not be going back nor will we recommend this place to anyone. Finally, when all but the most modest of motels offers free wi-fi, for Villa Roma to charge $10/day (not per week, per day) is ridiculous. Some of us are not completely on vacation when we travel.

WENT ON A BUS TRIP FOR 4 DAY AND 3 NIGHTS. THE ROOM WAS KEPT VERY CLEAN. CLEAN TOWELS DAILY. THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT. I HAVE A PROBLEM WALKING. THE SHUTTLE WAS THERE TO TAKE US TO THE FAR SPOTS. OUR WAITRESS WAS A SWEET HEART. COULD NOT FIND A THING WRONG. YES, CONSTRUCTION WAS GOING ON. IT WAS NOT BAD TO LIVE WITH, EXPECIALLY WHENYOU SEE THE END RESULTS.
