Wonderful Wyndham
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/15/05
We have been staying at The Wyndham every year for the past ten years. For the money, it's the best buy around. The location is superb: one block south of Central Park, one block from Fifth Avenue shopping, and around the corner from a subway station. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel, but there's a dynamite coffee shop/cafe around the corner, and a variety of bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance.
The hotel itself hasn't been updated much, so you'll find some very retro decor. If you don't mind pink or orange carpets, shiny wallpaper, glass doorknobs, older fixtures and furnishings,or closet doors that stick once in a while, then this is for you. The rooms are spacious, and the AC/heat units work well. My only complaint is that the pillows are not particularly comfortable. For the money we save and the amazingly good location, I can put up with that negative feature.I doubt that a friendlier staff could be found. The people at the desk are very helpful as are the bellmen. Their warmth is a comfort, and they always recognize repeat customers and make us feel extra welcome. The housekeeping staff is extremely efficient and uncomplainingly flexible (no whining if you sleep late).
Unless we hit the Lotto and can afford the Plaza (of which there is a view from the front rooms of the Wyndham), we'll always stay at the warm, friendly, affordable Wyndham.
