AKA Central Park, New York

I travel a lot. This time I heard about AKA and I wanted to give it a chance and was excitedö but it turned into a nightmare. We got there after an 11 hour of flight. Just in the middle of the night the toilet got stucked. The staff attitude was terrible. Especially the gu named "JOSE" in the front deski even said he cannot do anything. We wanted to cancel the next night and they said they cannot and made us wait for the management to wake up. The worst experience I have ever had. We were going to AKA westchester after here, we immediately cancelled. Never go to AKA.... I mean it.

just spent the last 6 days at the AKA.The most incredible wonderful hotel/apt......we are world travelers and place this up at the top.Remember it is a brand new property,so as soon as all the bugs are fixed it will be perfect.the amazing helpful staff made our stay as enjoyable as being home.

We stayed there recently and it was well worth it. The entire staff, from front desk to elevator operators, set a new standard for friendly service. Several times we left our room for a brief stop for coffee at the nearby Trump Tower, and returned 20-30 minutes later to a completely cleaned room. Our room was quiet and we were unable to hear much noise from the streets outside. The two walk-in closets provided ample storage space for our belongings. If I had to find a flaw, it would be that our shower was a bit old and could stand some service. The hot water did not work well, and it looked like as if the pipe was rusty. All things considered, it was not enough to detract from our pleasant stay.

Really surprised when we entered the room, which was a full suite. Kitchen held a sink, 4 glasses, and am old dorm fridge with freezer so frozen over it couldnt be used. The elevator men are cordial and more than willing to take you up, but never answer the ring for a trip down so be prepared to walk down EVERY time. A coffee maker would be nice. The window unit in living area did not work and we awoke at night due to the heat. Desk stafff never said a word, other than to get upset when we called attention to the fact that they overcharged, and we had a written confirmation of price from them. The space was nice, but i dont go to NYC to sit in my hotel room. Will try another place next time.

Decor was circa 1970 with mirrored, flocked wallpaper and garish red carpet. Peeling wallpaper abounded in the room and common areas. Room was large (two walk in closets), but appointments were bizarre. Lobby gave the feel of a methadone clinic. Elevator felt unsafe and was slow, as there was only one operator on duty. Linens appeared clean, but carpet (black spots on pink carpet in room) and other areas were of questionable cleanliness. Shower curtain was severely mildewed.

Service was great and everything was clean. I think it is a little overpriced. Do not stay there if you are planning to get around by public transportation. I spent 2 1/2 - 3 hours a day riding buses and subways. You have to pay extra for internet access. I would probably stay there again.

I enjoyed the hotel. I loved the old world charm, the manuelly operated elevator (which I have never rode before, and the layout of the hotel as well. The hotel was very clean and the customer service was excellent. I'm a very visual person and what I saw of the hotel was very pleasing to the eyes. My only dislike was the upkeep of the accessories in my room.....for example one of my lamps had the trim falling from the shade, the picture on the wall was crooked and not hung in a very awkward space... You now understand what I mean in stating "visual person". I definately recommend anyone to visit the Wyndham....I will....AGAIN!

We have been staying at The Wyndham every year for the past ten years. For the money, it's the best buy around. The location is superb: one block south of Central Park, one block from Fifth Avenue shopping, and around the corner from a subway station. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel,but there's a dynamite coffee shop/cafe around the corner, and a variety of bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance. The hotel itself hasn't been updated much, so you'll find some very retro decor. If you don't mind pink or orange carpets, shiny wallpaper, glass doorknobs,older fixtures and furnishings,or closet doors that stick once in a while, then this is for you. The rooms are spacious, and the AC/heat units work well. My only complaint is that the pillows are not particularly comfortable. For the money we save and the amazingly good location, I can put up with that negative feature.I doubt that a friendlier staff could be found. The people at the desk are very helpful as are the bellmen. Their warmth is a comfort, and they always recognize repeat customers and make us feel extra welcome. The housekeeping staff is extremely efficient and uncomplainingly flexible (no whining if you sleep late). Unless we hit the Lotto and can afford the Plaza (of which there is a view from the front rooms of the Wyndham), we'll always stay at the warm, friendly, affordable Wyndham.

Nice place in a fabulous location. Rooms are very spacious and well kept but it has not been "updated" in quite a while. I rarely stay anyplace else in NYC.
