Great room Great entertainment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/2/11
I had great service they parked my car..the room was nice I had a table to eat my food with a little refrig. The staff was great. I heard this black check singing and we stayed late and it was a Thursday the pool was nice. I didn't like the breakfast though to bland needed something to spruce it up plus some flowers would help.

Very Good Experience thus far
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/11
I'm currently on night 4 of my four night stay here. It is an older hotel, and you can see it's age, however I found the linens to be clean, the room vacuumed perfectly etc. Reception staff (Andrea in particular) are AMAZING , I asked about the possibility of a room / breakfast combo , and andrea reduced my rate by forty bucks a night and gave me breakfast buffet coupons. The buffet is somewhat lacking , sausage/bacon/egg are terrible.. but that could be said about every breakfast buffet at a hotel I've experienced around the Continental US. I stuck to fresh fruit, yogurt, toast , granola , juice, coffee, and water and left full and satisfied. Coffee was great. We went to the strong national museum, and andrea provided me with a corporate coupon that made my $54 museum visit free. She also advised me that she had many more attractions that she could give me coupons for. The first night I was here with my wife, young daughter, two young neices and my baby daughter. The hotel had the spare beds already assembled and made up and crib ready and waiting. They were also very polite and friendly at all times to everyone in our party. Housekeeping staff were great, on requesting an extra pillow and towels they promptly arrived, and the extra towels have been replenished daily without the need for a reminder. Found the staff at the grill to be friendly and courteous... all in all I'm a very satisfied customer, and generally I can be hard to please (or so my wife tells me :-) ) If they made a little more effort to not have the hotel appear as old as it is, I would have rated it excellent.

Horrible
By mario, 9/20/10
Avoid this hotel. Very rude and arrogant young women at desk. No manager on duty. Holes in carpet, filthy windows, doors and a/c; very noisy neighborhood; bathtub drain did not work; holes in peeling, moldy ceilings; horrible breakfast buffet with toaster that spits the toast out of the back of the toaster onto the counter; had to wait 10 minutes for hot water. When we complained to the rude woman at the desk about the breakfast, she asked if we wanted the manager's cellphone number! That's a first. When my room key didn't work for the second time I, of course, had to go down again to the desk and there was a woman there complaining that there was grass and hair in the bed of the room she had just checked into. Awful experience. I did get a refund but when I checked my AMEX account it had not been posted after one week. When I called to ask if it was actually processed, got into a real attitude issue with the ignorant young woman at the desk. She wanted ME to look up the number of AMEX for her. I did complain to management company of this hotel but got no response. To call this place a dump is like giving it five stars.

GREAT DESPITE REVIEWS....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/09
I decided to make reservations here at the Strathallan despite the nasty reviews I had read about the hotel online. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience and absolutely enjoyed every moment of my stay. The hotel is definitely an older property, here in the historical district of Rochester...I believe the historical feel to the property adds to the charm of the neighborhood. (but then again, many people these days want brand new rooms and neglect to notice the charm to the history behind the property--which I was taught by the lovely staff here at the hotel). This brings me to my next rave, the staff here is overly professional and just about everyone I ran into here (front desk, housekeeping, bellmen and the staff at the grill) went out of their way to ensure that I was satisfied. The rooms had a few quirks with it's maintenance here and there, but I guess that comes with being a historical building--they were not stones left unturned. Upon my reporting the maintenance issues to the front desk, they apologized for the inconvenience and sent a maintenance person up to take care of the issue. Overall, I rate my stay a five stay retreat. Although the rooms were not glamorous and glitzy..they were unbelievably spacious and the location was AMAZING! As far as other disgruntled guests...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And in this world, I believe you get what you give out. Upon check in, I was behind an extremely rude couple who treated the girls at the desk with complete disregard (almost as though they were to blame for everything that was wrong with their reservation). The young women at the desk did their best to help the guests and make them happy, but there are some people in this world who are just miserable and will never be happy..no matter how much any one tries to do for them. The young women remained professional through the entire ordeal, but you could sense the annoyance and frustration as time continued by. I myself was a bit annoyed at the situation. It's amazing the way people will treat others. Bad upbringing is all I can chock it up to. Anyways, I would recommend this hotel to others. If you're coming into Rochester and would like to experience the true history to the city, stay at the Strathallan. It's only a few blocks from museums and from park avenue as well (filled with small shopettes and an amazing selection of restaurants). The staff is wonderfully helpful (but remember, if you're an ass of a person, no one will take nicely to you for too long before they react. (that is with any person in this world...) But the Strathallan...awesome hotel! Pending on your personal taste.

The Best Thing about the Strathallan Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/09
The best thing about the Strathallan Hotel is it's location. Reservations were made a month in advance per computer and I when we arrived the young lady in the lobby was unable to find my reservation even with the confirmation number. After about 20 minutes of waiting she finally found the information. At this time we requested a balcony room and were assured it was available. When we got to the room it did not have the accommodations we requested. After four trips to the lobby and checking out rooms, we finally had the room we wanted on the fourth try!!! It was only when we were checking out that I looked at the envelope with the keys in them and noticed my last name was spelled wrong. No wonder my reservation could not be found quickly when checking in. We had complimentary breakfasts which were OK. I would recommend it to others only because of its location. It's an older hotel.

Ugh
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/3/08
We have stayed here twice in the past year and I don't plan to go back. The 1st time we stayed in an awful, unrenovated room. It was dirty and falling apart with old, thin towels and sheets. The next time, we were told that renovated rooms were available. We took one, but we were not told that the other rooms on our floor were still being renovated. The banging started at 7am and did not stop for the rest of the day. Our room was new, but poorly laid out. Even though we were the 1st people to stay there, my toddler found a large staple, a medication pill and a match on the floor. They had the gall to charge us full price to stay in a construction zone, but they did give us one night free after complaining several times. The staff is very pleasant, if not overly professional. I can't believe Hyatt is putting their name on this place.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/22/08
This is the worst hotel on the planet. Rude unhelpful staff, dingy smelly rooms, horrible service. Stay in your car or under a bridge before you stay at the Strathallan. Do not believe the good reviews or if you do -- check the date!! This hotel should be closed for good.

Great service!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/7/07
Location is near alot of fun places to see like the art walk and george eastman house. Rooms are verry spactious almost like your own apartment! Everyone is very kind and professional. the night life with live jazz on fri and sat nights are the greatest and makes you feel elegant Dont beleive the bad things written about the great hotel. my assumption is that cheap people looking for a free room and didnt recieve it are just looking for a way to try to get back at this hotel..Also are the bridezillas whos daddy paid for everything and are used to being spoiled rotten are also mad because of somthing soo little..like a mirror..This is a great place and once it becomes a hyatt will be even better!!
