Morgans Hotel, New York

I do not see any "recent 09" reviews, and I am concerned that this is the hotel hotwire.com has placed me in.

I've stayed at a number of other Morgans Hotels, both in New York, and in other cities, and have always been very happy. The Morgans Hotel at 237 Madison Avenue is, however, one to avoid for the time being. The front desk staff seem relatively new--a reservation for a car from JFK was completely bungled, and the car that did show up was some huge SUV (what am I, a drug lord?). It also cost me $125. Note to self: take a cab next time. The rooms are a big disappointment--they are badly in need of redecoration, or at the very least, fresh paint and carpeting. Room service is slow, and the food came cold both times. For the incredible price, I would expect better. Asia de Cuba on the ground floor is also a bit of a let down. It was packed with bridge and tunnel people on their way to Broadway shows. The food is not at all what it used to be. The manager and a customer service person contacted me after my stay. They said that major renovations are planned. I would recommend avoiding this hotel until the entire building (and staff) have undergone a major overhaul.

First of all I want to say this is the first bad review I have ever written in my life. I threw my 30th b-day there and it was the worst thing ever. From the start all I heard was lies. The bar fits 74 people...I was told 125. I was told that I would have an area for my friends and all my friends would get in without a problem. My friends waited 45-1 hour in line. …even though we got bottle service. I had guaranteed 50 people. I was to be the only private party....when I get there I was told there was 2 other parties in a place that fits 75 people!!!!! The doorman was very unprofessional... Thanks for ruining my night!!!!

There are some lovely things about this Schrager locale (i.e. Madison Ave, the housekeeping staff, Asia de Cuba Restaurant, etc.) however, a hotel with so many management vices is simply unacceptable. In one instance, the heat in my room wasn't working and so I came downstairs to talk to the office manager Fernanda Marina "personally" about tying things up. A simple problem I assumed. However, not only did she give me the "French" attitude when I asked her to repeat what she was saying (her English was Third-World to say the least) but she also assured me, with her "heard it before" demeanor, that the problem would be fixed in 15 minutes. Nonetheless, the engineer never came until the following day. No phone call. No reassurance. The only good thing about that sleepless night was watching the sunrise. But wide-eyed and chilled to the bone, I could've gone without the Auschwitz portion of the evening and the incompetent bullwhip that induced the experience.

This hotel has it all. The design is sleek, modern, trendy... very cool! The rooms are small but to be expected. It's definitely not for a family trip! There's a swanky late-night bar downstairs (think dim lights and red velvet) so you don't have far to walk when things heat up! The best part is the location. It's within walking distance to everything! For my first hotel stay in the city I was definitely spoiled. It will be difficult to match this experience! I've stayed at a few other hotels since and nothing comes close!

Wonderful staff. Outstanding room(s). Room service food was...'to die for.' Excellent Concierge. Great location for theater and shopping.
