charming room with art motif, pretty bedding; not too spacious, but you could call it cozy and welcoming. great neighborhood, near au bar jazz club, really good shopping, plenty of restaurants.

The Melrose is a fashionable, quaint european hotel just a few blocks from Park Avenue and Central Park. Their service staff are exceptional and they house The Equinox, one of the best spas in the city. Online prices were very reasonable. Rooms were quite small by Chicago standards, but we understand from New Yorkers that this is par for the course there. They have all the bells and whistles contemporary properties and much of the flavor of Old New York. The Melrose used to be the Barbizon - a fashionable residence for single female actresses. It's a great place to go for business or pleasure. Be sure to catch a lunch or dinner at Sol et Poivre, an exceptionally wonderful French-Belgian cafe nearby which was also quite a value.

The hotel is lovely, convieniently located and well kept. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Although I give an excellent rating, which I am not always likely to do, I think overall excellent is the appropriate rating. I do have the following comments however. Our room, while it was very lovely, was adjoined to another room. Although there was a locked door between the rooms, it was thin at best. We could hear the people next door quite easily and I believe they heard us as well. They were not quiet people and the gentleman in the next room coughed throughout the night which was slightly irritating. Perhaps if you stay here you should request a room that doesn't adjoin for sound control, unless you have a family traveling together in which case it would be perfect. Another thing to consider...we often found ourselves late into the evening before having dinner. As this is a hotel located in a business and shopping area, there is little choice for late night dining other than perhaps a diner that is not too far away. We had to go back to mid-town to find quality late night dinning. Although it was inconvenient to do so, the dining we found there was excellent. In all, our trip was fantastic and we look forward to coming back again! I expect we will choose to stay at the Melrose again!!

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The staff is great and tries to very helpful. However, the first room I was assigned had the pipes rattling so loudly I could not sleep. The second room they sent me to was dirty. The third was in a smoking floor (I asked for non-smoking), though they claimed the room itself was non-smoking. The last room was the charm. It was clean, smelled great and most importantly - quiet. Make sure to ask for a quiet room when checking in.

Service was excellent! Everyone was extremely willing to help when needed. The room was clean enough, although the fan in the bathroom had 100 years of dust in it! Windows in the room were not very good. Very noisy and very windy through the cracks. The heater also clicked when turned on. Not ideal but served its purpose. Overall average.

the melrose is a very nice hotel, with a competent and courtious staff. the only downfall was the hotel was pricey for the location and offerings.

This hotel was spectacular. Great location, hip rooms, helpful staff, stunning foyer. We loved our three-night stay and have been recommending this hotel to others. We are booked to stay again.
