Great location but pretty shabby
We booked a four night "Hilton Romance" package that boasted oversize room, in-room bottle of wine, complimentary full breakfast and 2-for-1 dinner coupons. Boy were we disappointed.
Front Desk:
Obviously need training; not efficient or friendly. Maybe off-season staff?
At check-in, the staffer asked her cohort what the package meant. The reply, "Not much, just give 'em breakfast slips." From there, the stay went downhill.
It took three daily trips to the front desk to finally get the promised bottle of wine. Never received any dinner coupons. Upon checkout, I found they had billed our room for three breakfasts despite the vouchers. Took 15+ minutes to rectify the overcharge (and one still made it to my charge card).
Not the slightest hint of apology or regret from the clerk.
Room:
Our oversize room was exactly same layout as regular room except for extra 2 feet in length. Bed was comfortable. Room in sorry disrepair: broken lamps, mold growing in the tiny, shoddy bathroom, wallpaper peeling off and amateurish patching of holes in wall. First time I tried to set the temperature on the in-wall, motel grade air conditioner, the cover fell off on my toe! The unit was so noisy, it was difficult to hear the TV.
The only bright spots were the proximity to the Plaza and the exceptional service in the little breakfast cafe.
Avoid this one. You can do much better for the price in other hotels adjacent to Old Town.
The corporate Hilton folks should be ashamed of this one. The price says "Hilton", but the facilities and the poor service don't come anywhere near to its namesake's reputation.
