Great place to stay - Can't wait to come back
By New to Carlsbad, 4/30/11
This is the coolest hotel. I've never had a room so big. There's a fireplace in the room and a balcony with a mountain view, a kitchenette and lots and lots of room. I can't wait to come back here again and bring my family. It was great going out to the Hot Tub last night even with the cold winds. The continental breakfast was terrific and the hotel is within walking distance to all the shops. I love this place.

Great location, great stay, great price
By D, 11/9/10
This quaint motel is, perhaps, the best value in Taos. The room was large, clean and recently remodeled. It is about a 5 minute walk to the downtown area and across the street from the Kit Carson park/ museum Our stay was very pleasant. Without a doubt, I would stay there again on our next visit.

Charming and serene
By Katherine, 5/16/09
Not sure what was going on three years ago, but this place was a sweet haven in a busy little town. Walking distance to town is minimal. My guess is that those who balk at the three blocks should stay right on the plaza at La Fonda and pay for the privilege. The room was enormous and we especially appreciated the cross breeze. Screen doors on the room and the balcony made it quite comfortable. The people were friendly and helpful. The bathroom was up to my sparkly standards, as was the room. Lots of extra pillows and comfy bedding. Not a fan of chain motels, so loved the quaint character of the colorful tiling in the sink, the handpainted headboards and heavy wood furniture. If I'd known it was this nice, I would've stayed on a few more days, but we'd already made other plans. Breakfast is an added bonus. And - you cannot beat that price so close to the plaza and the Kit Carson Memorial park.

never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/12/06
Stayed in June, 2006. Loud, rumbling cars in/out of the parking lot until well after 2am. The room was so hot I slept on the floor by the screen door. AC did not work. No fans available (guess my room was not the only one too hot). Clerk suggested that if I didn't like it, I shouldn't stay there again. Not a consideration!

Terrific
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/29/06
I bring university students here every other year and the place is great. Reasonable rooms, great location--easy walking distance to the Plaza. I stay here every chance I get. Get a room with a fireplace and soak up the enchantment of New Mexico.

Our favorite place to stay in Taos
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/05
Although the facility is older, we find the rooms very comfortable. We have stayed in the units with kitchens and fireplaces as well as in the regular rooms. In both cases, we had everything we would expect to find in a well-appointed guest facility. It isn't fancy, but our needs are met. We like the green, tree-rich setting. The grounds are well kept, and there is no "motel feel" to either the grounds or the lodge. The location is convenient to the Taos Pueblo as well as the plaza, shops and galleries. The staff is courteous, efficient and friendly. Breakfast is good. There is a nice patio on which to enjoy it. The rates are reasonable and allow us to indulge in meals at the more expensive spots in Taos.

Bare Bones Place to Stay
By Jeni Turgeon, 7/5/05
This place is nothing special, but it's a good location at a great price. Walking is a bit much if you are out of shape, but otherwise, it's a quick stroll (3 blocks or so) to shops and restaurants. The rooms are very large, which is good if you are in Taos for outdoor recreation and have a lot of gear with you. This is like renting a tiny cabin...expect bugs in the room and a definite "rustic" stay.

We visit here every year and love it!
By Terri Y, 7/3/05
The rooms are large and comfortable. The pool and hot tubs are usually in great condition. We enjoy the light breakfast which is free. For the money, you can't find a better bargain. This is where we go to relax and enjoy the New Mexico beauty every year (for at least 10 years now).

Terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/12/05
My first impression of this motel (and it is a motel - NOT a hotel) is that it is not really walking distance from the Plaza as I was assured. I was traveling with my parents and although very fit, this is slightly past the distance of a comfortable walk. The real shock was when I opened the door to the room. #1 It smelled like a dank, old motel...which I suppose it is. #2. Just INSIDE the door I found a half smoked cigerette. #3. On the end table was a half finished can of soda. I marched to the office and to her credit, the manager did knock off a whole 15$ from the already over-priced room, however that did nothing to taint my stay. The morning "breakfast" was a joke of stale bread, bad coffee and dry cereal. I travel to Taos and Santa Fe at least once a year, and this was the worst stay I have every had.
