Comfort Inn North, Absecon

Dislikes: The room smelled terribly musty/smoky/strange....... We spread coffee all over, that didn't help. The windows were so condensed and dirty, we could barely see out them. The rugs throughout were filthy and stained. The staff was rude. Three times I asked for TP, and on the third try, finally got it, unwrapped, in front of people in the lobby. (They could have at least placed it in a bag discreetly.) Asked for tissue twice - nothing. No AC in the eating area.........hot as heck! Lobby bathroom was filthy. One elevator broke down.....I used the stairs instead...no problem. Until I got to the lobby floor and had to wade through ....no lie....about 60 bags of trash piled up against the door. I only stayed one night. I wouldn't stay here again if the fee was free. Ths outrageous at 189 plus (lots of) taxes. Caesar's on the board walk cost nearly half as much. I wish I read reviews before I stayed there. Another life lesson learned.

This hotel is run-down, the lobby, hallways and elevators were very hot, the ice machine on our floor did not work, ice makers on other floors did not work well. The breakfast was too crowded and not enough food - they kept running out of everything. If you stay, go to the diner down the block for breakfast. The garbage can was full when we arrived at 5:00 PM, by that night it was overflowing and on the following day when we checked out it was all over the sidewalk and two parking spaces. There was not enough help at the front desk. The person who checked us in at 5:00 PM was the same person who checked us out at 12:00 the next day, in the same clothes! This was just a bad experience.

Stayed for one of two nights in August. At around 9 pm they had a power failure due to an accident down the road. Totally not their fault. Their backup generator only lasted for about 15 minutes, then all the lights went out. Not ONE emergency exit light worked. We were lift in total darkness on the 3rd floor. No one ever came to check on us. We packed our things using a cell phone and felt our way down the stairwell. Some personal items were left. I was assured I would get them back..... Never did. I hope they enjoy the $1,200 in jewelry I had to leave behind, not to mention all of my mothers medications that cost her approx $435.00 to replace. My advice is to stay away from this hotel. You are better off sleeping in the street.

This was the first time we ever stayed here. I must say the staff was very friendly. The bathrooms were clean. The only complaint I had was the beds, they were terrible. I told my Mother I would be more comfortable sleeping in the dresser drawer LOL!!! anyway, if you're staying one night should not be a problem but don't make a week out of it.

Hotel room was very very clean, bathroom very clean as well. Air conditions worked great. Continental breakfast in the morning for free cant beat it.

PLUS SIDE - the hotel was less than a 5 - 10 min drive away from A/C - nice assortment of breakfast foods DOWN SIDE - the hotel hallway had a moldy smell - saw some kids urinate on the property next to the lobby door - the room was ok but mattress was soft - wasn't the cheapest bargain along RT 40

There were bugs in my room. I got my money back and stayed someplace else. The place has a bizarre odor. Perhaps it's because of the swampy type geographical location.

The Choice Hotels corporate web site states that the Comfort Inn North in Absecon, NJ won the company's "Choice Gold Hospitality Award". Per the web site: "Winners of this award exceed Choice Hotels' quality standards for Customer Service, Housekeeping and Product Quality. Only those properties that achieve scores in the top 20% of the brand during an unannounced inspection for each of these categories receives the Choice Gold Hospitality Award." The fact that the web site states that this Comfort Inn location is in the top 20% of the brand was a major influence in my decision to book a standard room for 8/13-8/16 (2006). I expected the hotel to be very clean and was disappointed to discover upon arrival that it's filthy. When I got into the elevator to go to my 3rd floor room I started to question the quality of the hotel. The walls of the elevator were very dirty. They appeared to have large stains - perhaps some kind of liquid that had been splashed on them. When I got off the elevator I walked into a hallway that had terribly stained carpet, the walls and doors to the rooms were covered with stains and scuff marks, and there was definitely a moderate stench in the air. The room was not a whole lot cleaner than the common area in the hall. There were liquid stains and scuff marks on the wall. Wallpaper was peeling off in multiple places. At least one gouge was in the plaster wall. The lamp shades and cloth covered chairs were stained. The bathroom wasn't too bad, although the rim of the toilet wasn't clean. And there were small hairs on my bed sheet. I slept on top of the bedspread. After staying one night I cancelled the remaining two nights that I was booked to stay in the hotel. I then went down the highway a few miles and checked into a brand new Quality Inn & Suites (which ironically happens to be another brand owned by Choice Hotels). The Quality Inn cost $20.00 more per night, however it was exactly the opposite of the Comfort Inn in terms of cleanliness. It also has a pool and fitness center which the Comfort Inn North doesn't have. The staff at the Comfort Inn North was friendly and politely accommodated my decision to check out early. The staff can't be held fully responsible for the condition of the Comfort Inn North. Clearly Choice Hotels’ corporate headquarters needs to invest some money in repairing and replacing things at this location. The hotel clerk told me the hotel won the company's "quality award" in 2005. I find it hard to believe that the hotel fell into such disrepair within the past year. Was the company inspector drunk or on acid when inspecting this hotel? If I were an executive at Choice Hotels I would be embarrassed that the company web site states that this hotel is an example of the highest quality the brand has to offer. If this is really true, I hate to imagine what the rest of the locations are like. Choice Hotels should consider investing in repairs and updates to their current facilities before investing in new buildings. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone.

I saw several bugs in my room and demanded a room change. You may have bugs in your luggage when you leave Comfort Inn, Absecon. Clerk tried to "play me", saying there were no bugs. But, I got the room change.

Insects in the room!!! Smelly place. Just not a very pleasant experience. I saw a centipede insect crawling in my room. I would not recommend Comfort Inn Absecon.
