Beautiful Transformation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/16/08
We had visited the Inn two years ago. The Bilgers did a wonderful job fixing up Whitneys. I can't wait until the winter to go sking right next door at Black Mountain. The beds are excellant and the food plentiful and delicious. Susan was a great help in getting us resvervations for dinner and helping us decide what activities to do during the day!

beautiful place

Everything looks brand new . . . fresh paint, new furniture, and new fixtures in all of the rooms. Even the Shovel Handle looks spruced up. Breakfast was excellent! The owner is cooking breakfast and even came out to chat with us during breakfast. How nice!

Great Time!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/01/08
We spent a night here at the end of 2007. We learned that the place is under new management and we definitely could tell. The place is freshly painted and all of the furniture is new. They were still working on the place while we were there, but what had been completed looked great! We had an excellent dinner in the dinning room. The wait staff was friendly and very nice. The new manager even stopped by to see how our meal was going.

WE WERE A PARTY OF SIX PAYING A RETURN VISIT AFTER FIVE YEARS. THE HOTEL UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP. WE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MADE MORE WELCOME. WE HAD A WONDERFULTIME, THE FOOD, SERVICE CLEANLINESS OF THE SUITES COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER. THE WHOLE AREA IS LOVELY AND HAS MUCH TO OFFER. WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

Just awful
By Matt & Lis, 10/15/07
In July 2007, my family and I planned a long weekend up to the Storyland area. We were looking for a nice country inn that had a suite style room to stay at with our two young children. We picked the Whitney Inn. When we had to pre pay 100% we should have know something was up. We arrived, checked in at the main house. The “suites” were not in the main house; rather they were in a building set in the middle of a large gravel parking lot. When we got to our room we found a “suite” furnished with what can only be described as old college dorm room furniture. The couch and chairs were far from comfortable which I could have gotten past. The mystery stains across the couch and floor were too much for me to handle with two small children. We spent one night in “suite” and asked to be moved. Night two was spent in the main house in two adjoining rooms. To be fair, this was a large improvement from the first night. The furnishings had a quaint country feel and the rooms were clean. The pool was fine although the website said it was heated. When we asked the front desk, the girl staffing the desk she said that it was not heated. Upon going into the pool, it was definitely not heated. Granted in late July it is not crucial, but their website misstated this fact. And finally, the food. Breakfast was included with our stay. The first meal was fine, nothing special, but it was alright. The second morning my family and I ordered our breakfast. When I received mine, I went to take a piece of bacon. As soon as I touched it and nice SPIDER came crawling out of the bacon. We got a brief apology from the waitress. We left one night early. I told the girl at the front desk why we were leaving early. Indifference is to kind to describe her reaction. I told her that my reviews online would not be favorable and turned to leave. With one foot out the door, the manager of the hotel blurted out have a nice day or something to that effect with a heavy sarcastic tone as he ran upstairs. I turned around told him about the spiders, the stained furniture and carpet, etc. We ended up having a 15 minute conversation were he ended up apologizing and promised to send out a gift certificate to the properties that the owners manage. Not that I wanted it, but I am still waiting to receive it. To sum up. DO NOT STAY HERE. There are a great number of hotels, Inns, etc in the area. This place can easily ruin a vacation. It truly is that bad. A small final note on the food, on the menu they mention that they only use 100% maple syrup. A family came in the dinning while we were eating. Their son had food allergies so they asked the waitress to confirm the maple syrup was in fact 100% pure maple syrup and not the artificially flavor type syrup. The waitress kindly brought out the bottle. It was an “Aunt Jemima” type syrup. I personally do not care what syrup I use but do not say you serve one type on your menu and in fact use some totally different and far cheaper. Another misrepresentation.

Appalling!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/26/07
Made on-line reservations based on their description and acolades. It was so bad that my husband could not get me out of there fast enough because we didn't know if we were safe. It is run down, dirty, smelly and not a place you would ever want to spend a night. For those folks who write that they had a great time and thought it was clean - you folks need to get around more! When we asked for our money we were told no. Please be careful when you travel and check things out in more detail before you make reservations, we learned a valuable lesson.

not for families
By jpb, 07/20/07
no other people were staying there. checked in to mountainside cottage w my 3 sons (under age 4). place was deplorable! smelled of urine, old food under cushions in chairs, tv not fastened down, they were using illegal "cheaters" in elect outlet(so mult things can be plugged in same outlet at same time), windows were broken and cranks were missing, curtains were torn. checked out immediately, still trying to get refunded. stayed at reliable chain hotel up mt wash hwy. do not pay up front. i should have listened to the negative blogs from those who went before. so much for benefit of the doubt! what a mess. blogging mostly to prevent other families from being fleeced.

Will Never Go Back
By Dave, 08/19/06
My wife and I looked at the websites for the area and after reviewing the website, choose the Whitney, as it seemed wonderful and it was only 5minutes from STORYLAND. Although they did not lie about what they had, it was at best a stretch. The room was dingy; the furniture was mismatched and worn. When there was hot water, the pressure was so bad, they I had trouble getting the soap from my hair. The TV’s were small and smaller. On top of all that they added to the bill a gratuity charge. We will taking our child back to STORYLAND next year, but will not be going back to the Whitney.

What A Great Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/05
We stayed at Whitneys last week. Had the best stay at an inn we ever had. Try out the horseback riding. The views were great. As for the room, it was sunny, clean and charming. Although we didn't have dinner, the breakfast each morning was perfect. Thanks to the entire staff for your attention to detail.
