Lake of the Sky Motor Inn, Tahoe City

I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, the heater worked. The shower and sink all were clean - no mold or water stains. The towels were as good as the Hyatt's. The bed's and pillows were comfortable. There's a Safeway and CVS across the street if you need anything. The breakfast consisted of cereals, bagels, raisin toast, orange juice, milk, oatmeal, and some pastries. They have a nice check-in mechanism for those arriving very late. The night we arrived it snowed 2 feet. The snowplow arrived at about 4:00 am but was very quiet and quick. I only gave 4 stars on service because the included breakfast started at 8:30 - too late for those wanting to hit the slopes early. When the slopes closed early, we all came back to the lounge room (near the pool) and played cards for several hours. The overall rating was 5 because it's a real value.

Great location...close to shops and restaurants in TC. McDonalds and Safeway are across the street, which is huge when bringing the little ones. 200 yds to the water and 20 mins to the lift lines. Great value b/c of its location and it is always clean. Has a retro feel to it but who cares....you're in Tahoe. You only sleep and shower here, as there is too much fresh air to be had outside the retro walls. I cannot really comment on service as my only requirement is that I get my key and billing isn't screwed up. They did all that perfectly.

The room was way overpriced for what it is. Granted, it was a holiday weekend, but $159 for this place is ridiculous. With tax it was $179.It is very, very old. Walls are very thin. Tiles are cracked in the shower and floor. Faucet practically came off in my hand. Towels were thread-bare. It was clean, but that is about all I can say about it. I would not stay there again.

My girlfriend and I always go up to Tahoe and stay here every time. All the rooms have a little fridge to fill with stuff and some even have microwaves. There are some rooms that join up. Everything is always clean. The rooms have nice little heaters that do a great job. We try to travel on a budget. Lake of the sky is great for that because there is breakfast in the morning, Safeway across the street, laundromat near the Safeway and a bunch more across the street not to mention the lake that can be seen while eating free breakfast on the lobby terrace. We don't go anywhere else. If we spent lots of money on hotels we wouldn't get to go up near as often and hang with Randy and his dong Ema. OH also. Randy (The manager) has a bunch of shovels and brushes there for guests to use to get snow off their cars. The place also has a little tractor to move snow around ensuring there is ample parking. Getting there late at night is no prob. Randy has a great little system that is anything but complicated to get you in your room should you arrive in the we hours. Breakfast is always good! Bagels to toast, choices of cereal, coffee, tea, OJ oatmeal, pastries too. If its too chilly to dine outside just grab a tray and run back to the room. I don't have kids but people who do have room to play around in the snow plenty far away from the road. there is a good size area next to the parking lot.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights. We paid $60 dollars a night to stay at a motel right near the lake and in the downtown. You can not beat that price. The accommodations were great with a full complimentary breakfast- which we really enjoyed. The manager was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and had a fridge & microwave & of course a TV. Oh and free wireless internet- that was a huge plus! All in all it wasn’t a 5 star hotel but it was good for our accommodations. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We like the north side of Lake Tahoe better than the south side, so we found that Lake of the Sky Motor Inn was just perfect for us. It may be an, "oldie," but it's a, "goodie!" The room was clean, the bed was comfy and the continental breakfast was plentiful. Randy, the hotel manager was friendly as well as accommodating. There was a young man named, Eric who was also friendly and helpful. Thanx to all the staff for helping to make our stay enjoyable! When we visit Lake Tahoe in the future, we will be sure to stay at Lake of the Sky, again!

This place is so cute! Rooms are on the older side, but what in Tahoe isn't? The room was spacious and clean. Randy, the hotel manager was wonderful - he knew us by name and remembered to ask us how our bike ride was, etc. The breakfast in the morning was nice and the coffee tasted great! The pool was smallish, but clean and deep - why do you need a big pool anyway when you are across the street from the Lake? Could not have asked for a better location - just a block away from the cute shops and cafes in Tahoe City. The only negative was the loud TV of the people next door at 6am, but I never heard voices or other noises from their room, so I think maybe they just had it up very very loud. I will definitely go back - you can't beat the price or the service!

Great value, and the best view of the lake from the pool deck I've been coming here truly for decades - it is a gem!

Spent our first night in this hotel last weekend, for $53 w/AAA discount it was a great deal. Room is comfortable, bathroom clean and the water warm. The host, Randy is very friendly and is a pleasure to be around during breakfast. The location is great too, walking distance from Safeway and restaurants around - 10 minutes from Homewood Ski resort.
