Location but nothing else
I am a very seasoned traveler and am not prone to writing bad reviews. However, in this case, I must. This resort has one thing going for it; location. It is away from the hussle of the Tahoe area, and so is good for families. My wife and two children (ages 2 and 7) came here for four days. We were very excited because of all the snow the area had at the time. It has as it's main attraction it's own sleding and skiing hill. However, while nice, it's open to the public, expensive, and uncontrolled chaos. It is simply an accident waiting to happen. They have what a young woman who I can only assume is there to control the madness, but she is no where up to the task. She can do no more than hope to see whether everyone has their sticker. So, given that we were in the woods, we went out behind our suite area and made our own sled run. We did a great job, thanks to a shovel and some planning. Our kids had great fun. Then, on the last day (it was 45 degrees and things were melting fast), I was putting snow in a low area at least 15 feet from the sidewalk when a worker walked up and scolded me for getting snow on the sidewalk! Mind you, I didn't, and second, everything was melting! Now, at $450 a night, at a place advertised for families, you'd think rather than scolding me, he would have offered to help! Keep in mind, I did not want my kids anywhere near that accident prone sled area, which by the way was way on the other side of the resort. Then, there's the resturant, or lack of it. The food was horrible. My son ordered a hamburger and it was raw. The breakfast was tolerable, buffet-style, but the coffee undrinkable. Then, there was the keys that did not work. Mind you, the main lodge was quite a hike from where they had us placed. So, when we came back after a day of snowmobiling, cold and hungry, and our keys did not work, I was not happy to have to walk all the way back to the main lodge to fix the problem. There was no way to call for someone to come help us. When I arrived at the desk, the girl wanted to play "20 questions" about things, rather than simply looking at my ID, which she never did, and I never answered her questions (I couldn't). I could have been any frustrated father telling her my kids were crying outside my room, waiting for me to get back. The bottom line to all of this review is that the resort is in a great location. The rooms are old, with very out of date amenities. I could live with all of that. However, the service was horrible, and they make no apologies for it. I guess it helps to be one of the oldest around.
