Description

St. Louis tradition with roots dating back to the 1920s, The Cheshire embodies the charm and authenticity of a traditional British inn with all the modern conveniences of today. Generations of St. Louisans and thousands of visitors to the city came to love the old world feel and quirky charm of The Cheshire Inn and Lodge. What started as a modest hamburger joint, evolved through the decades into a landmark restaurant and hotel known as the Cheshire Inn and Lodge. Now, after undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation, this local treasure has been reborn.Today??s Cheshire retains all the historic detail for which it is known, yet seamlessly blends the past with the future. Eighteenth century antiques and historical fixtures live alongside flat-screen TVs and granite bathrooms. Even the popular Fox & Hounds Tavern has been reinvented. Its small plates menu features traditional English favorites and is also served poolside and at the Clayton Courtyard.Throughout the renovation process, no detail has been overlooked. From the hand-carved mantle in the living room to the stained glass windows throughout, the rich patina of tradition is alive and well. The storied history of this iconic hotel has been preserved, her grandeur restored in a clever blend of old and new. The Cheshire??s timbered walls house decades of special memories. The hotel is thrilled to begin this new chapter in the great story that is The Cheshire, and the hotel staff looks forward to making the home yours.

The Cheshire, A Great value for the dollar.
By ,
The old Cheshire hotel has been refurbished completely. and it is under new ownership and management. Clean, quiet and a courteous prompt hotel staff, everything was pleasant. It is all brand new in a classic olden times way. Next time I am going to get a Royal Suite.

The perfect place to reconnect!
By ,
My husband and I decided to get away for a few days because he had just come back from a year long deployment with the army. We went into the stay with the mind set that it was not your normal 5 star hotel depending on ritzy furnishings and stuffy people. It was a hotel with wonderful people and wonderful old character. We had the ultimate bath fantasy suite and we loved it! We enjoyed talking to Joey the bartender at the Fox and Hounds. If it weren't for his information about our hockey tickets, we would have missed out on some pretty wonderful perks. Everyone helped us with directions and one of the most wonderful things was the shuttle! We didn't have to drive anywhere. They took care of it the whole trip! So it made it a completely stress free get away! I would recommend it to all my friends that aren't uptight! It is full of old character. It is a very relaxed atmosphere. You walk in and feel very comfy right away! Definately worth the money and the time it took us to get there. We are actually planning more stays, just so we can check out the other fantasy suites! They are huge and wonderfully romantic! It was the perfect place to reconnect after a deployment. Whenever we go back to St. Louis, we will stay there! Fantastic hospitality and wonderful old English atmosphere. Go with a fun whimsical attitude and you will find that you are transported from the middle of St. Louis to another time and place! We won't stay anywhere else! And GO Blues Joey!

We are not an uptight couple.....we loved it!
By ,
My husband & I had a small wedding and stayed there the night of for just a night’s getaway. We had the Safari room reserved for us to arrive at nine and when we arrived at midnight we were still greeted by two friendly men who had been waiting for us. We personally liked the style of the hotel. It was different and intriguing. The room was fantastic; we loved the jungle themed Jacuzzi room! "It just depends on what you like, everyone is different!" We had a wonderful experience and felt it was very romantic and relaxing. The room was very spacious and the bed was huge! No one bothered us, and felt fine to not be waited on hand and foot. Although the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is a "continental" breakfast, o j, milk, coffee, bagels, english muffins, fruit & cereal. It never led us to think otherwise before booked if research was done.......before. Or it would have said Buffet style breakfast or Brunch. That is what enjoying the rest of St. Louis is for! We enjoyed it very much! Reserve the Safari Room! We will go back, definitely.

One word: DUMP!!!
By ,
I don't know where to start. This place has not been updated or cleaned in 40 years. The beds are like a rock. The tv's are from the 70's. The sheets and bedspreads are dirty. The restaurant and pub are not even open. It looks like a dark haunted house. The pool had no water in it. The whole place is musty. I would not consider staying at the Cheshire Lodge again if it were FREE!

Thin sheets, towels and walls.
By ,
We stayed only one night. The Old English theme lived up to expectations. The only positive thing was the shuttle to and from the Cardinals game. Negatives: Very thin old sheets, very thin old towels and really thin walls. And the other reviewer is correct in that you can't close the bathroom door unless you do it before you sit down.

I won't stay again.
By ,
I stayed there 8/17 as a gift from friends for my 1 year anniversary. My friends should ask for a refund. The mattress was as hard as a rock and the pillows were flat. Seeing as how there was a flat sheet in place of the fitted sheet, I spent half of the night readjusting it so I would not be directly on the mattress. The A/C was broke in our room so we froze all night long. The towels were supposed to be white, instead they were dingy gray. One of them had waht looked like a rust spot on it and another one was unraveling. I also had a problem with the parking lot. I can understand having it worked on, but shutting it down for one year is ridiculous. We couldn't even pull the car up to door. I work at a hotel and I know that this sort of thing should not happen. Had it not been a gift, I would not have stayed there and I most likely won't again.

DO NOT GO HERE
By ,
i grew up in st. Louis and had fond memories of the cheshire, so based on the web site i booked a room to go visit my mom, who lives nearby. i thought we could enjoy the pool and take the shuttle to the zoo with my grandson. we found a yellow ribbon around the nearby anh handicapped parking, the pool had been drained due to some emergency which was not explained. it was dark and like the adams family home, the bear in the lobby terrified my grandchild. we had to jockey for the limited parking daily, the rooms were not clean and the next store neigbors were loud and kept us awake. the morning breakfast was just awful, the coffee was bad, canned peaches and sugar rush rolls. We were not able to go on the shuttle as my sister, who lives there, was to park and go with us. They told us that they did not allow this only people staying there. I went for my birthday celebration and it was terrible. Also the staff was very rude.

What a shame!
By ,
The Cheshire Lodge is perfectly located across the street from Forest Park. Some time in the past, I'm sure it was a wonderful place to stay. However, July '07 it was just a shell of what it might have been. The restaurant, the parking garage, the pool, and the wine garden were all closed indefinitely, and we didn't see any double decker bus. Even tho' there was evidence that the Cheshire once had all these great things, my impression is that they have certainly fallen upon hard times. We learned just how important it is to check the dates of posted reveiws on places like this. On the upside, the housekeeping staff makes a huge effort to keep tired & worn appointments clean. So, if you're looking for a clean room, close to the park, with absolutely no frills, this might be your place.

Not what we expected, AT ALL!
By ,
During reservation we were not told that the restaurant, pool, and parking garage were being remodeled so our anniversary planned reading by the pool and dining at the restaurant was ruined. We tried to stay anyway, however, at midnight we realized the bed was way too hard to be comfortable and the room temperature could not be controlled. We attempted to go to the tavern for a drink but due to the foul smell in the lobby we opted to not. There were no bedside lights so forget trying to read and the TV is small and far from the bed so not really entertaining either. Finally at 2AM we called another hotel in downtown and spent the rest of our trip there. Usually, I love antique and prefer quaint accomidations but this was just completely unacceptable. Also, I had sinus issues the whole time there and that cleared as soon as we left.
