*Comfort and Satisfaction Guaranteed* yeah, right
I originally had problems with the hotel clerk getting the type of room I had requested & paid for. I had to move my belongings from one room to another before I found out that they didn't even have any smoking rooms with a single bed. My boyfriend & I then went to retrieve his other car from the hotel we had previously stayed at & returned to the Trace Inn 45 minutes to an hour after checking in. I took the rest of our stuff upstairs & got in the shower. I was immediately grossed out by mildew on the shower curtain. I eventually discovered an ashtray, which had not been cleaned, in the nightstand drawer. Under both of the beds I found pieces of paper, wrappers & soda bottle caps as well as other garbage & the carpet was stained & matted with what appeared to be dirt/mud & food. I went back down to the desk & explained what I had found to the clerk. She then called her manager at home & told her we had been in the room for over 3 hours -- we had checked in less than 2 hours before & had only actually spent about 20 to 30 minutes in the room. Once she hung up she said we'd been in the room for too long & would not be getting a refund. I asked if there was a manager around & she said the manager she had just spoken to would be in in a few hours. My boyfriend & I left to eat & when I returned to speak with the manager she immediately had an attitude with me. She refused to have the room cleaned (the housekeeping staff (all one of them!!) had left for the day). She refused to give us a different room & wouldn't even go up to the room with me to see how dirty it was. She said she had gone in when I had left & found but one piece of paper under a bed. When I tried to explain to her that we hadnt actually been in the room for very long before requesting a refund, she interrupted me, raising her voice again & again until I stopped my attempt to be heard. I told her if it came down to it I would take pictures of the room & immediately she yelled at me that if I was there to cause trouble I could just leave. I told her I was there to get what I had paid for & she said that I had. She said that if she were that unhappy with a place that she would take her things & go -- much easier said than done when you're over 700 miles from your family & trying to make the most of what money you have. I finally gave up on our yelling match & asked for the owner's name & where s/he could be contacted. The woman began writing behind the counter so I presumed she was preparing the information I requested. I waited several minutes before peering over the counter to see her writing out her paperwork instead. I asked again about the information & she yelled that I had about 5 seconds to get away from the desk before she called the police. I guess looking back I should have had her call them, but I didn't see what good it would do at that point. Without being refunded for the room, I had no way to pay for another hotel. Eventually, my boyfriend got a hold of a relative living in a nearby city & we were fortunately able to stay there for the night. I have never been so offended & frustrated by a person or place I was paying to provide a service to me.
