Home away from home...
By ,
If you gotta be away from home, this is teh place to be... best thing I like is the 2nd floor, smoking. It's at roof level, over the conference rooms or lobby maybe, but all gravel, so it's almost like having a deck or something. Grilling would a wonderful idea, but probably wouldn't go over well. In any event, has that old charm... "Dillinger Stayed Here", and indeed he did, though they don't have any record of it due to fire way back when, and consequently you can't request one of his rooms. Nice basin sinks... old claw handle faucets. cherry and mahogany, decent sized tv... food and drink off the lobby is smaller and cozier, couple small groups can easily occupy teh whole thing, there is a hideaway plasma though. Excellent concierge as well, no pool onsite, but can get access to a few nearby to choose from. They're not in any reward programs I don't think, so you gets no points here... well worth it though.

We had a great week
By ,
I recently had my Wedding in St. Paul Minnesota, while the reception and ceremony were not at the St. Paul Hotel our family elected to stay there. The first thing that strikes you as you pull into the driveway was the gardens that flank the entrance way, the bellman consistently arrived at your car and had the door open before you had a chance to think. The Staff was very courteous with out being stuffy, Mid-West Elegant is the best way I could describe it. As I was the groom the hotel upgraded me to an Suite which was very nice, elegant wooden furnature with a big 4 post bed. The matress was very comfortable. The room even had a pair of Bose wave radios. Others in my party had conventional 2 double bed/king rooms all looked like they had recently been re-done with fresh looking carpet and drapes. The location was great, walking distance (in the summer) from the Xcel Energy Center (concerts, Minnesota Wild games) and many clubs and bars.

Quiet Competence
By ,
Elegant without being ostentatious, the St. Paul is a local landmark and the finest hotel in St. Paul. The rooms are comfortable though the sizes are restricted by the older architecture of the hotel (a plus!). It is now being renovated but thankfully the St. Paul Grill is being left unchanged. This is the place where St. Paul's movers and shakers meet and it is arguably the best place for Steak for hundreds of miles around. Brunch is popular for good reason: nearly everything is tasty, the service usually very good and the environment loud but fun. There is nothing as grand in the old style to be found anywhere else in the Twin Cities. The downtown St. Paul location is handy and there is speedy access by car to both MSP International Airport and downtown Minneapolis.
