Colonial Inn, New Ulm

This was most probably the dirtiest motel room I've ever seen. While they accept pets (we didn't have one and didn't know this), they need to shampoo the carpets in the rooms they rent to pets more than once each decade. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed in quite some time and we would not put our bare feet on the floor even after I insisted they vacuum. We tried to switch rooms, however the shower in the alternate room they offered was also filthy. The thermostat did not work so heat went full blast until we had them turn it off altogether because the room was a sweltering sauna...and that was our only alternative...blasting or off. We elected off and only by morning were we a little chilled. The table in the room was also sticky with soda cup rings and had to be wiped down. Based on the overall condition of the room my husband and I slept on top of the beds in our own blankets (which we always travel with thank goodness) not trusting the sheets to be clean. Owners did not seem the slightest bit concerned with the condition of the facilities. Terrible experience!
