MG Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/11
This is a pathetic dump. Our MG car club of approx. 60 couples has been going here for our fall color tour for the last 15 years and the last few it has gone has gotten progressively worse. This year several couples went out and bought their own cleaning supplies and cleaned their rooms. Several complaints were 1 towel, no heat, no glasses,, filthy dirty, very poor service, 35 min. to check out, terrible food, + many others. We even had a bat in our toilet. What a shame for this legendary facility to be such a disgrace to beautiful Manistee county. Are inspectors aware of this "hole". What a shame........so sad.

A Place of Paradox
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/11
We have been going to the Portage Point Inn (PPI) for over a decade. We meet family there. The location is PERFECT! The Inn is a dump! If I wanted to write a book on how not to run a hotel I would write about the PPI. Service is ok but usually slow and often without a smile. Hospitality is not their strong point. The dishware was always dirty - we had to wipe off almost every coffee cup. There has been a consistant decline in the quality of the hotel, food & services over the years. We will try to stay elsewhere in the future. Did I mention the location is great!

Great spot but what a dump!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/11
Shabby and run down. Someone with some coin needs to come in and fix this up, because it is a wonderful location. You are paying for that, not the room or hotel itself. Dirty and in need of major repair.

We love it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/18/11
We love it! We have been going to Portage Point Inn every spring for the past 6 years. We are a group of four families, 8 adults and 11 kids. The proximity to inland lake as well as the Big lake is wonderful. Beach walks, the big dune and shuffle board always entertain. The staff is accomodating to our needs and we always have fun. We look forward to going back every year. Early May can be cold....can;t blame PPI for this! No complaints at all, we love it and recommend it to other families...it would also be a great get away just for adults.

Great Location, Bad Service
By Greg S, 10/20/09
This is a charming lovely place, that has great views and is moments from Lake Michigan. I visited this place as part of a wedding party. This would be nice for a couple, but is not ready to accommodate the demands of a large group. Service was very slow, as each drink was counted by hand as it was distributed. Dinner was presented very slowly, taking almost an hour, just dinner not the desert. You could imagine by that time some peoples food was cold. With the dinner being presented so late the other wedding festivities were being delayed. Before the wedding party could have there dance, attendees were restless and took to the dance floor. The night was scheduled to end at 11pm, because of the late dinner we requested an additional thirty minutes, which we were refused with rudeness by the management staff. Bottom line, if its just you and the misses might be nice for a weekend. For large groups they're just not ready yet.

Second time visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/08
We had gone to PP two years ago for our anniversary and decided to go back again this year for our anniversary. Each time we had a wonderful suite in the hotel and enjoyed the restaurant immensely. My only criticisim is that I was so looking forward to the walleye this year and when we got downstairs to dine on Saturday night it was a dinner buffet with no walleye. I had waited two years to have the walleye! However, the dinner buffet was very good too. I look forward to coming back again and maybe this time I can have the wonderful walleye. Definitely a place to come back to again and again. We might try a fall weekend getaway this year so we can see the beautiful color. Worth the drive.

Step back in time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/11/07
I have been going to PPI for over 40 years (there was a break during to the fire years) If you yor are looking for swank and glitz this is not you place but for Family and casual I cant say enough!!!!! The beach at both Portage and Lake Michigan are wonderful. The air is clean, Children can have the freedom to be safe and enjoy being independent. Jeff the manager is terrific!!! PPI is truly a special place. You have to remember it is over 100 years old so don't expect the Ritz but thats the charm. Activites included jet ski, water skiing, sand dune, walking, rocking on the the wrap around porch, shuffle board tournament, big fish contest, sand castle contest,Polar Bears to name a few. For those who like to golf there are a few courses near by. The Coho fishing is wonderful.

Beautiful Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/13/06
I have always loved Portage Point Inn. It is located on a gorgeous strip of land between Portage Lake and Lake Michigan. The sun rise over the hills of Portage Lake greet you in the morning and the beautiful sunsets from the golden dunes of Lake Michigan are stunning. I have always enjoyed the variety of activities offered by the lakes and beaches as well as by the hotel itself. I mostly enjoy rocking on the white pillared porch with family and friends enjoying watching happy children play and looking at lovely Portage Lake. The food is good, the service is great, my room is always comfortable, and the manager Jeff is very friendly as well! I have been returning to Portage Inn for about fifty years.
