A PIG WITH LIPSTICK
By ,
The Amway is the worst hotel in Grand Rapids. It is over priced and behind the times. The Ruth's Chris steak house is a half ass attempt to come up to speed but falls short. The drinks here are not good and the service staff is cheesy at best. I have unfortunately stayed here multiple times and EVERY time been disappointed. The room service will forget something on your order, guaranteed. The room will be small and expensive I assure you. It has "Midwest" in all the wrong places and "big city" pretentiousness in even worst places. Do yourself a favor and avoid this pyramid scheme travesty. Oh DO eat at RESERV it is fantastic one of the best restaurants in the region. The chef was nominated for a James Beard award.

Sad July 4th, 2008

Our Fourth was totally ruined and the manager could do nothing. The service checking in was wonderful. The gentleman who brought up our bags was terrific. The room was beautiful. However, when we went to the lounge to enjoy hor d vours which were complimentary with our concierge level room we had to ask for more chairs. We were told there weren't any. Looking out the lounge window my children and I realized we would not be able to see the fireworks from our room as guarenteed several times when making the reservation. The lounge was already full of other families waiting 3 hours before to watch the fireworks.I specifically asked for a room with a view of the fireworks, because I would be alone with a 2, 6, and 9 year old. I didnt want to fight the crowd alone. My husband wasn't sure he would make it in time, due to working. So we reserved a room with a view of the fireworks, OR SO WE THOUGHT. After bringing this up to the manager Jason, nothing could be done and I had to check out and try to make other plans for myself and three children. My kids where crying because the wonderful plans we had for fireworks was ruined after all the excitement and anticipation they had prior to the fourth.I will never return to the Amway or recommend it to family in the future.

A cut above the rest...
By ,
The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel has some of the most knowledgable staff in the world. They know everything about their hotel, and also the surrounding area. When you first valet your car until you pick up your bill and check out you feel like the staff really cares. They want you to feel like you're a guest in their "home". They made our weekend getaway a real success. We dined at Cygnus 27 and were very impressed, great cuisine, and a beautiful view from the 27th floor. The next evening we dined at the 1913 Room, which might I add is the only 5 Diamond resturaunt in the state of Michigan (come on other cities catch up) and loved the French influenced cuisine! The staff their knew their wines aswell, let me tell you. All and all, we were highly impressed with this hotel, and would put in on par with other luxury properties we've stayed in from London to Barbados.

Parking to expensive
By ,
You have to pay extra to use the pool. The pool guy swept the water that over flows onto the deck that everyone walks in back into the pool. The rooms that have the tile in the doorway hallway noise comes right under the door from people waiting to get on the elevator. Parking to expensive.

Loved it!!!!!
By ,
I went to the Amway in August of 2006 for my birthday. I checked in and went to the 22nd floor where my room was. I got my key out and put it in the slot of the door. The door wouldn't open. I went back down to the front desk and exchanged the keys for new ones. I went up again and it worked. I opened the door and turned on the lamp. The light bulbs burned out. I called the front desk and never came up. When I was in bed about 11:00 PM, the housekeeping woman was talking to another housekeeping woman about getting her tubes tied. That was too much. I mean she was yelling it so everyone could hear her.. Other that those things everything went smooth.
