Comparable to a Holiday Inn
We checked in around 5pm and though we had entered our credit card information on travelocity.com, they did not and would not charge the card used. I had to use another card for damage hold and pay cash on check out. AAA card was never asked for. I asked about the free breakfast, which was listed, on travelocity.com and they told me they don’t do things like that there.
We were vaguely acknowledged when we walked in. We checked in our room was ready and we were given directions. Originally we went to room 228 (?) by the exit door. We immediately went to the room to discover we did not have a fireplace. I asked my boyfriend if this was okay and he was very excited about it, so we called to complain. We were told that he might have another room available with a fireplace and someone would meet us in the hallway to exchange keys. About fifteen minutes a maintenance man greeted us (most unfriendly) and exchanged keys. We opened the door and our suite was ready complete with a fireplace.
The room (room 224) was a suit with two queen beds, the bedroom had plenty of pillows the bureau (we didn’t use as we were only there for one night) was tiny with a small mirror and a TV on top (we didn’t use it). The living area was very cozy with two armchairs, a TV, a pullout coach, a rickety coffee table and the fireplace. The fireplace came with a fire log, but as recommended by another poster (from Trip advisor) we brought a fire starter log and two logs of wood. We used ours first and it burned fine. Opened the damper. The room got very drafty then but we knew this from our fireplace at home. There was a thermostat in the room and it worked well. The bathroom was very large. Two sinks, a bathtub/shower, toilet. Plenty of towels (hand, bath, face) however, the bath towels were very small (and I’m not a large women). The bathroom had three amenities provided (shampoo, one bar of soap, lotion). One bar of soap was a joke, one to wash your hands at the sink…well how about the shower? Luckily we brought out own and didn’t rely on theirs. The drain in the sink and the shower were very slow (it did drain but in the shower the water was up to my ankles). Otherwise it was well lit and spacious. We did have one light in the bedroom not work but since we were only there one night we didn’t clean.
Around 6pm we walked around to explore. Not much to see at all. We stayed in the inn and didn’t explore the cottages. Inside the inn was a conference in one of the two rooms. The pool was closed (no indoor pool…disappointing for a ski lodge). We got a little lost trying to find the restaurant. We saw a server in the hallway and she directed us to a door with no sign on it. We entered the restaurant and went to the bar. Two beers cost us $7.75. We looked at the menu for dinner and breakfast to decide on. We came back around 730 for dinner. For dinner we originally ordered the mixed grill (ostrich, boar, elk) but they were out. So I had the Wachusett Apple Chicken (very cheesy, fresh mash potatoes and vegetables) and my boyfriend had the Lamb Burger (he said it was a Greek salad in a bun). We only had water to drink and it cost about $40 approximately. Decently priced for a hotel.
That night we went to bed after a second fire. I requested a wake up call for 7am and it was an hour late the next morning. The wake up call also said the weather, and it was extremely inaccurate. My boyfriend described the beds perfectly “It was like sleeping on a hospital mattress).
As we were leaving the room for check out, there were one survey for the Inn and one “letter to the manager”. I filled out both and handed it to the women at check out. VERY unfriendly and uninterested, it seemed like we interrupted her day checking out. She gave me my total ($109 after taxes) I paid cash. I had to ask for a receipt; she didn’t care about the surveys I passed in. No thank you, or have a good day or anything.
I’d compare it with the Holiday Inn.
