Avoid staying here if possible!
By Jennifer, 8/20/12
Horrible experience! It was filthy and reeked of stale smoke everywhere to the point of making us sick. For what we paid per night it should have been much more than it was. They advertise as ocean front, which is false. You cannot see the ocean from anywhere. You have to walk across the street and behind a high rise condo to get to the beach. Another thing they do not tell you is that the AMTRAK train tracks run right behind the hotel! That makes for a pleasant stay, NOT! The restaurant service was horrible but I will say that when we finally did get our food, it was hot and tasted very good. The value of the breakfast was excellent. In our bathroom, we received our " complimentary" shampoo. They were obviously left overs form previous guests. They were partially full and the seals were broken on them. Our mattresses were terribly uncomfortable and stained. They looked as old as the hotel! The pillows were stained and flat. Thank God I travel with my own sheet and pillow! The walls are stained, half the lights worked and only half the plugs worked in the room. The carpet was so filthy you had to have on socks or shoes the entire time. Next time, we will find a nice B and B somewhere for about what we paid for this dump! Not a good first experience with Old Orchard Beach!!!

Business trip
By Harold, 12/30/11
The big room with a kitchen was perfect for my week long stay. I had business in Biddeford and it was a short drive. Great people and nice rooms, I'll be back soon!

if you want a really bad smellly place to stay, then go to ''grand'' beach inn.when i walked into my hotel room it was freezing and it smelt so bad.i looked in the closet and there was a metal bar on the floor.that was what you were supposed to hang your clothes on. in the corner of the closet there was spiders and dust.on the stairs i found a dead moth and the staircase spelt like pee.my rooms tv looked like someone stuck a computer on the wall.the tv didnt even work.the bath tub had mold on it. the pool wasnt heated even though their website said the pool was heated.if you go on grand beach inns website, dont let the pictures fool you, this hotel is really bad. and old orchard beach is beautiful.

price to high for what it was
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/10
I was sceptical to begin with because of all the negative reviews, I emailed via " contact us " regarding my concerns, never received a response. The motel was not the cleanest or newest , but I have been to old motels that were a lot cleaner, the help def seemed lazy. One night we were kept awake by people partying in the pool, I believe it was all employees, because the office is open 24 hrs and there is now way they didnt know what was going on until 3 in the morning. we only stayed because vacancies were limited. we actually stayed an extra night and the second room was much nicer. nothing fancy but nicer. if they are going to be renovating they should be giving discounts. I asked for wash clothes but told there were none. I am disappointed to see that the price now is cut in half, I pd 160, now its around 85. and it is still peak season. I might contact my credit card company regardimg this. If they ever finish renovating it might be nice, the location is good, a short walk to the beach. It is tolerable, but ive been to cleaner. the trolley is easy to pick up to go to the pier. also the outside lights all go out at 2am, i think that this is a safety violation, my daughter arrived later than that and it was too dark to see, and Unsafe. Might report that also.

Ugh! Nevermore
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/09
First of all, the clerk that checked us in seemed bothered by our arrival. There were four or five people sitting in the lobby watching TV and I think we interrupted their movie. One of them was our housekeeper we came to find out. He (the clerk) didn't have any suggestions as to where we could get a bite, he just pointed at a table in the lobby and said 'there's delivery over there'. That was just the start. The grounds were beautiful, but the pool was not. Neither were the halls and stairways. As we entered the stairwell to get to our room, we noticed huge spider webs, with spiders and dead bugs. It looked like a spider farm! And the stairwell itself didn't look like it had been cleaned in years. Good points, the beach is just across the street, there is a restaurant on premises, the room did have a kitchenette. Bad points: The room smelled and the floors were sticky (even the carpet). There was sand in the beds. The housekeeper came to do our service and we asked her to come back, that we were just leaving for the beach. She never did. We went down to the front desk to ask for towels and they said there weren't any. (I don't understand why there weren't any towels!) The room also had a very strange smell, like stale ocean, mold and pee engulfed in cigarette smoke, although our room was supposed to be non-smoking. They have not chased the bugs away for so long that the insects from the marsh had taken residence in every niche of the place. There's black mold growing in the corners (of everything!) and on the decks. We didn't let the kids out. The best part? We left early! After our first night we went to the office to complain and the manager was so overwhelmed with complaints, she in fact looked like she had been hearing it all day. It was a learning experience. From now on we will stay at a place we have stayed before or check it out while we're there. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It was a waste of time.

AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/09
For my first experience in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, I will never return. This was by far one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The first three rooms we were assigned too were filthy, with spiders crawling all over the room as well as filthy carpets. Upon bringing this to the managements attention we were given our choice of three new rooms, each of which we equally as filthy. The beds were horrible, paired with the terrible smell and filth of the entire property. Lastly, upon returning home I read reviews which made several mention of bed bugs being an issue here. I would highly advise against this place- the website is a complete misrepresentation of the hotel and a great trap for vacationers. STAY AWAY and pass the word! I plan on making a call to the Board of Health/ Inspectional Services in Maine first thing in the morning- this dump needs to be shut down immediately!

Value? Yes. Quality? Not so much...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/09
We had two rooms here for one night recently. The price was right, but the rooms were a little dirty and run down. One of the rooms had no curtains on it. Some bugs and spiders in the bathtub/shower. It is due for some updated decor. I got the impression that it was only as good as it has to be to attract "value-conscious" guests. Several blocks north of the Old Orchard Pier, which is good if you want to be a little bit away from the crowds, but bad if you want to be in the thick of things. I don't think I would go back, there have to be better choices.

Eleven years says it all!
By EllenC, 12/16/07
We come down to stay at the Grand Beach Inn at the middle of November and return to our northern home the end of April. We have down this for eleven years now. For us it has been great, (and grand!) It's a great value for the price, at least in the winter. The staff does everything it can to accomadate your wishes, and we've never found the place to be dirty. We have watched many upkeeps and upgrades to the place over the years. Age and elements (weather), as well as thoughtless people, are hard to keep up with sometimes, but we think they do a fine job. If you want your pick of rooms, we suggest you go there in person and look at a few of the rooms, so that in the future, you can book early and get your choice. Remember, first come, best served!
