Ugh! Nevermore
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/10/09
First of all, the clerk that checked us in seemed bothered by our arrival. There were four or five people sitting in the lobby watching TV and I think we interrupted their movie. One of them was our housekeeper we came to find out. He (the clerk) didn't have any suggestions as to where we could get a bite, he just pointed at a table in the lobby and said 'there's delivery over there'. That was just the start. The grounds were beautiful, but the pool was not. Neither were the halls and stairways. As we entered the stairwell to get to our room, we noticed huge spider webs, with spiders and dead bugs. It looked like a spider farm! And the stairwell itself didn't look like it had been cleaned in years. Good points, the beach is just across the street, there is a restaurant on premises, the room did have a kitchenette. Bad points: The room smelled and the floors were sticky (even the carpet). There was sand in the beds. The housekeeper came to do our service and we asked her to come back, that we were just leaving for the beach. She never did. We went down to the front desk to ask for towels and they said there weren't any. (I don't understand why there weren't any towels!) The room also had a very strange smell, like stale ocean, mold and pee engulfed in cigarette smoke, although our room was supposed to be non-smoking. They have not chased the bugs away for so long that the insects from the marsh had taken residence in every niche of the place. There's black mold growing in the corners (of everything!) and on the decks. We didn't let the kids out. The best part? We left early! After our first night we went to the office to complain and the manager was so overwhelmed with complaints, she in fact looked like she had been hearing it all day. It was a learning experience. From now on we will stay at a place we have stayed before or check it out while we're there. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It was a waste of time.

AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/10/09
For my first experience in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, I will never return. This was by far one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The first three rooms we were assigned too were filthy, with spiders crawling all over the room as well as filthy carpets. Upon bringing this to the managements attention we were given our choice of three new rooms, each of which we equally as filthy. The beds were horrible, paired with the terrible smell and filth of the entire property. Lastly, upon returning home I read reviews which made several mention of bed bugs being an issue here. I would highly advise against this place- the website is a complete misrepresentation of the hotel and a great trap for vacationers. STAY AWAY and pass the word! I plan on making a call to the Board of Health/ Inspectional Services in Maine first thing in the morning- this dump needs to be shut down immediately!

Value? Yes. Quality? Not so much...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/07/09
We had two rooms here for one night recently. The price was right, but the rooms were a little dirty and run down. One of the rooms had no curtains on it. Some bugs and spiders in the bathtub/shower. It is due for some updated decor. I got the impression that it was only as good as it has to be to attract "value-conscious" guests. Several blocks north of the Old Orchard Pier, which is good if you want to be a little bit away from the crowds, but bad if you want to be in the thick of things. I don't think I would go back, there have to be better choices.

DIRTY AND LOUD
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/08
ARRIVED FOR 1 NIGHT, NO DISCUSSING AS TO WHAT THEY OFFERED IE:POOL, HOT TUB JUST HANDED ME MY ROOM KEYS AND SAID, THE CREDIT CARD WAS CHARGED, I DON'T NEED YOUR ID. AND HAD ONLY 1/2 ROLL OF T-PEE WHEN WE GOT THERE, SOAP WAS FROM 1960'S AND FELL APART AS SOON AS I OPENED IT, GREEN CARPET WAS SLIMY AND FELT DIRTY. THE OUTSIDE DECK WASANGELED AND WOOD ROTTING AS WE STEPPED OU ONTO IT. AT 11:45 THERE WAS A MASS OF "VERY LOUD" PARTIERS ARRIVING, I ATTEMPTED TO CALL MAIN OFFICE AS THEY WERE SCREAMING AND BLASTING MUSIC...(WOKE UP MY 3 &5 YEAR OLD) NO ANSWERING MACHINE, NO-ONE ANSWERING. i WAS NOT ABOUT TO WALK DOWN TO CHECK FOR AFTER HOURS NUMBERS WITH MY KIDS IN TOW. CAFE IN AM WAS BUSY, LADY SEATING PEOPLE SNAPPED AT US, "GO INSIDE AND GIVE YOUR NAME THEN WAIT OUT HERE." WE WANTED TO JUST GET COFFEE AND TAKE OUT, SHE DIDN'T GIVE US A CHANCE TO EVEN TALK. WOULD ONLY RECCOMEND THIS PLACE TO YOUNG PARTY-GOES, ONCE YOU HIT 30 YOU'LL APPRECIATE THE WARNING.

Eleven years says it all!
By EllenC, 12/16/07
We come down to stay at the Grand Beach Inn at the middle of November and return to our northern home the end of April. We have down this for eleven years now. For us it has been great, (and grand!) It's a great value for the price, at least in the winter. The staff does everything it can to accomadate your wishes, and we've never found the place to be dirty. We have watched many upkeeps and upgrades to the place over the years. Age and elements (weather), as well as thoughtless people, are hard to keep up with sometimes, but we think they do a fine job. If you want your pick of rooms, we suggest you go there in person and look at a few of the rooms, so that in the future, you can book early and get your choice. Remember, first come, best served!

there is nothing Grand about it...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/07
As mentioned in a previous review, website is misleading. Very run down and I would consider balconies unsafe for small children as railings are quite low and our 3rd floor balcony was on an angle. When attempting to secure alternate lodging through a motel near-by, it was confirmed that they could no longer recommend the Grand Beach Hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful .....but it is what it is ....not a place to go back to.

We won't go back.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/19/07
We were so disappointed with the Grand Beach Inn as compared to their pictures and description on their website. What was the most bothersome was the cleanliness. To sum it up, it was filthy. At first glance, we noticed stains and burn holes in the carpeting of our non-smoking room. (After speaking with the manager, we were told the carpeting was going to be replaced.)The 3 chairs, including a recliner, were badly stained, to the point where I would not sit on them. A tissue was stuck in the ceiling next to the smoke alarm. Management took it out, only to find a hole in the ceiling. The walls and other surfaces throughout the room were dirty. After pulling the comforter back, we noticed the pillow cases were stained. The curtains and blinds were also dirty and not hung properly. The bathroom was also dirty. The floor had a build up of grime, the bathtub had holes in it, and the sink was cracked. We immediately contacted management and they seemed surprised by the state of our room. They responded by putting clean sheets on the bed (they didn't fit, but they were "new")and sent the cleaning crew in to "re-clean" the room. I could go on and on, but hopefully I have given you enough information. The staff was quite empathetic to our concerns, they led me to believe that they have heard it all before.

Never Go Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/07
Had a 2-night stay at the Grand Beach Inn. If you go on the oobme.com website it is the first hotel on the list. They promote the fact that they are one of the newest hotels in the area. This cannot be true. I can't remember whether I was told the room we were booking was a smoking room. I would not have taken it if it was! The room was disgusting! The shower was full of black mold, spiders were living on the ceiling of the bathroom and each morning there were little black bugs in the tub and on the white towels. We put towels on the floor so we did not have to walk on the gross rug. There were burn holes on all the bed linens and in the carpeting. The room smelled like smoke. What bothers me the most was that if you go on the website the room they show is so nice with a new rug and light and bright. Our room was dark and the rug on the outer walkway was ripped everywhere. Someone could easily trip. No elevator so we had to walk up three floors, no luggage carts. Ceiling tiles were all falling down and the strips that hold them up were rusted. Also, I over heard a walk-in getting offered the same price as my family had paid and he was going to get a 2-room suite with a kitchenette! The only positive thing about the place was their staff, who were always nice, their cafe, which was great food and service, and the fact that the beautiful ocean is only a short walk. However, we could never return to a hotel with a room like this again. Better to take your chances and check out the room with your own eyes.

The web site is full of lies
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/18/07
We took the Grand suite and at 239.00 a night, we were expecting something nice, the kitchen was so dirty we were sticking to the floor, to the chair back which were originally white but are now dark grey, the cabinets are so sticky its disgusting. The air conditioning is full of molds, the living room coaches are also very dirty and stained. I wanted my money back, could only have a reduction and nobody to clean so I had to clean the room myself so that we could eat. The kitchen was supposed to be fully equipped: everything was there except what you need to cook, pan, spatula, can opener, bottle opener etc....I haven't seen the other rooms but as another comment says, they advertise as the newest but it is an advertisement that runs probaby since it's construction decades ago and the renovations have been rare!!! Sorry for my english but I hope it will help anyway
