Problems at the Marriott
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/07/09
We stayed during the Sugar Bowl so they were busy. When busy the elevator system doesn't work well. During several events, hundreds of guests would hike the stairwells up to the 20th floor or higher. Embarassing for a hotel with 7 elevators. I have never seen this anywhere. When I asked about they said they were "busy", but isn't this the point for a convention hotel. Food was marginal and service in the lobby lounge was very poor. Granted they were busy but they had months to be ready for a busy week.

WOW!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/06/08
We got this hotel after doing Priceline and wasn't sure about it. When we arrived to check in, we were very impressed by the modern and clean decor. Staff was very friendly, especially Kelvina. She upgraded a standard room to a deluxe suite on the 40th floor. (Suite number was 4005) The room had an entire wall of windows overlooking the quarter. It also had a rectangular dining table with six chair, a kitchenette, a sofa, sofa table, end tables, a chair, a 32" flat screen LG tv and a murphy bed. Bathroom was just ok, but didn't really fit in the "deluxe" category. It was nice, granite countertops, but it was just ordinary. One problem, though, was a constant knocking...perhaps the elevator? The suite was in close proximity to the elevators so that's possible. We were also awoken at 9:30am by the sound of a very loud drill on the other side of the wall our bed was on. It was terrifying. We called the front desk and they said they'd check on it because no construction was scheduled. They also sent up security to check things out..well needless to say, no one had any idea what it was so we thought that was a bit odd. No scheduled maintenance was ordered so we thought maybe the place was haunted! Other than that, the upgrade was amazing, the views were breathtaking and we'd definitely stay again. My tip to anyone staying in a hotel, ask for an upgrade..it doesn't hurt and if they're not busy, they're more than happy to make your day! Oh, we weren't sure how much normal rate was on our room, but the back of our suite door said $975.00 a night! Wow, really?

Poor experience at best
By melissa g, 03/08/08
Stayed here for a business meeting over several days. Unable to get an elevator either in the morning or evening during heavy traffic period. Had alot of company in the stairwell walking to the lobby and meeting room level (this happened two days in a row so it wasn't a fluke). Front desk staff experssed surprise until I pointed out the 30-40 people waiting for elevators just 40 feet away. Breakfast Buffet was okay if to like luke warm food. on check out day a staff member knocked on the door to my room at 8:45 Am insisting that I check out soon (advertized check out time was noon. Apparently she wanted me out so that she could clean my room.

AWFUL SERVICE, AWFUL PEOPLE and RESERVATIONS ARE USELESS
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/02/08
NEVER NEVER NEVER make reservations at this hotel for New Years Eve/Day or any other big event... ever... reservations are useless. We made reservations for two rooms for New Years Eve months ago and we get there (at 3:00 pm which is every hotels normal check-in time) and they say that they've overbooked and are moving us to the Residence Inn in the Warehouse District. Actually, they lied and said they were moving us a few blocks down from where we were and when we got there (after getting lost without the help of the pathetic map they gave us) we realized that it was in the warehouse district. For those of you that are not familiar with New Orleans, this is nowhere near the French Quarter or "Arnauds" the restaurant where we had reservations (made three months ago). This was after calling at 12:00 pm to ask if any rooms were already cleaned so that we could check-in early and they told us that no rooms were clean and to come later in the day. They didn't even bother telling us that we didn't have rooms there anyway. My husband's best friend was planning on proposing to his girlfriend that night at dinner so this was a VERY bad way to start off our day. Then the front desk manager had the nerve to be rude to us like it was our fault they had overbooked. He should have been understanding about how upset we were but instead he was almost yelling at us. He was very short with us and very unapologetic. I don't think he apologized even once. He kept saying that we had a free room at the Residence Inn and that we should be happy with that. It wasn't about the money. We picked that hotel for the location and we kept telling him we would pay twice the amount we did to stay in that horrible place just for the location. He was really rude and stuck up when he should have been the last person to be like that. So, the lesson to be learned (and the lesson we found out the hard way) is... This was the host hotel for Hawaii's Football team (Sugar Bowl) so they overbooked and we were "randomly" picked to be moved to another hotel. They host every year so don't think that it won't happen next year. This hotel apparently does not believe in First-Come-First-Serve. Another friend (the brother of the girl who was proposed to at dinner that night) strolled in that same hotel four hours later and checked in with no problems whatsoever. They randomly pick people even if you've had reservations months in advance and you get there before everyone else... AND they're rude about it too.

It isn't worth staying at this hotel
By ABM, 11/20/07
I stayed at the hotel for a day, paying $149. The service is horrible. Poor business center (only two computers for print out). I had to stay in the line for 15 minutes. Have to pay for broadband access ($14.95/day) No shuttle from the airport Uncooperative staffs Small room No refrigerator in the room

Stayed here for a convention, terrific location and the nicest staff I have encountered in years (anywhere), rooms are not too big but comfortable bedding and nice bathroom amenities. Very accomodating staff eager for pleasing any traveler. New Orleans is BACK!!!!

Good location, great staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/25/07
No evidence of any hurricane damage, very clean, all services running, outstanding bell staff, quiet, great location on edge of French Quarter; good meeting staff, relatively easy access. Free excellent exercise room. Only negative is excessive charge for daily internet access, when will quality hotels learn that this is not a good policy. Would stay again if in area.

Not bad if you don't have a problem with service being slow.
By Tania, 06/10/05
When we got to our hotel late because all our flights had been delayed due to weather, we checked in rather late past midnight and so we had to wait for someone at the front desk for about 5 minutes which being tired, wasn't fun. To top this off, when we finally got our key and went to our room, we were given the wrong room number so we were disturbing someone else's room. Of course we didn't know that, at first I just thought it was the wrong key(because the room seemed empty). So, I called downstairs to tell them the problem and they told me to come back to the lobby. Went back to the lobby and got another key. Then we find out again that the key they gave us doesn't work and finally someone inside the room said something when they noticed we were trying to get in. So called the lobby again and told them the situation and had to go back down again only to find they had given us the wrong hotel room number to go to. The person who checked us in had written it down wrong. They apologized, and we were like yeah ok...and they also offered us free breakfast for the duration of our stay for"our inconvenience" which was made us a bit more happy. Finally we got to our rooms. The rooms were nice and we had a nice view of Canal Street. But we had asked for a rollaway bed when we had checked in and it took them over an hour to get it to us(there were 3 in our party). So needless to say we weren't impressed with the service. But overall, the hotel was in a good location(close to the french quarter), the people were generally friendly an the value was good.
