Extreme Disappointment!
By Velocity, 5/29/10
I stayed at this place with some members of my family for some quality time. The place LOOKS very nice, with it's antiques, and the fact that it's one of the oldest buildings near the quarter...but don't be deceived. The first problem we encountered was that there was NO elevator and the stair cases are seriously difficult to wind around when you have heavy luggage, and due to the understaffed crew, it's very hard to find someone available to assist you. The electricity went out in our room the 1st 3 nights in a row. Each following day they had to bring in the electrician to attempt to fix it. After the 3rd night they just gave up, and resolved the problem by running a heavy duty electrical cord from the outside hallway, under our main door so we could at least watch TV, listen to music, or charge our cell phone, or laptop (but only a couple at a time). They did promise us a discount for the 3 nights we didn't have access to any outlets but that promise was never met at check-out. Every evening when we returned to the room, the balcony door (to the SHARED balcony) would be wide open even if we locked it with no real explanation from the front desk other than "we're working on it." I had requested a wake up call and never received it. When I awoke late I called the front desk to ask why and all they could tell me was "We just don't know why, but we are unable to ring through to your room." Needless to say we didn't request for another one. The most interesting problem we had was when my 63 yr old mother (who had her own separate room in the courtyard) woke up, went into her cooler, began to eat a number of her grapes when she noticed that some of them had been nibbled on by a small creature. Upon further investigation she discovered that her other items and baggies in the cooler had been chewed through and the big wow factor was that she also found (what she hoped was) mice poop all over the bottom of the cooler as well :) She is still hoping it wasn't a rat that crept into her room and only a mouse. By my final evening there, my mother and my uncle had already gone home. Some dear friends of mine invited me to spend my last night at their home, after hearing about the issues at the Lamothe . So I quickly packed my suitcase and scurried down to the lobby to check the hell out of there. It took the under-trained and hostile night clerk an HOUR to check me out. Due to her severe lack of experience and hospitality I was forced to sit alone with her and my luggage while she ignored me, gave me rude glances, and spoke on the phone with a co-worker in an attempt to figure out what she was supposed to do. We were never given a discount. We were overcharged for a room key that was never missing and my mother had returned earlier that day. All in all...the WORST hotel experience I have EVER had. If you want a positive hotel experience in or near the quarter I recommend The Le Richelieu, Hotel St. Marie, Hotel Provincial, and if you need a cheaper stay & don't mind a lack of elevators The Frenchman Hotel.

Not worth it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/8/09
This place was such a disappointment. They were not friendly or helpful at all. The place was not taken care of. There is a pool but it's not cleaned very often. For all of the great hotels and B&B's in New Orleans, don't choose this one. I wish I could recommend a good one but I stayed here and was bummed about it. Not that it ruined my trip -- New Orleans itself is awesome, but this place is thumbs down!

Nasty!!!
By Carolina Girl, 6/2/09
We booked a 2 bedroom suite for the week but only stayed 1 night. The carpet turned our feet black within 5 minutes. We had to wear our shoes at all times even when getting out of the shower or the bed so that our bare feet would not touch the floor. We had to turn the A/C down to 40 & still couldn't get our room temp below 76 and there was a giant dead cockroach in our bedroom. We could not stay there with 2 toddlers it was just way too nasty!!!

Simply Awesome
By Carol, 5/10/08
I want to share my experience with The Lamothe House with everyone. We went to New Orleans for a vacation, and booked a room here. We got one of the one beadroom suites, which was beautiful. The staff was very accomidating from the get go. Then, a few days into our vacation, my best friend and travel companion ended up in the hospital with a serious condition. The Lamothe House not only called and checked on us, but offered to pack up our things, offered us extended stay, and keep our stuff in a secure area until we could get it. They even helped us load up when we returned, and the support of the staff there made it a truly special experience in such a stressful time. I HIGHLY recommend it :)

filthy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/08
Booked two nights at the Lamothe House in New Orleans. The room had no windows. The A/C was in the bathroom and at the top of the 8 foot ceiling, the on/off switch is in the bedroom. No way to adjust A/C. No TV channel guide or telephone book in the room. Large "dustbunnies" under the bed. Wife mopped the floor with one of the white face cloths, it was black when she finished. Walls were so thin we could hear other guest normal conversations and bathroom "functions". Did not stay second night and the front desk could have cared less, too busy talking to friends on cell phone. Have rec'd refund for night not stayed. Room was dirty, damp, dark and uncomfortable

Good Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/07
My Stay was during the Thanksgiving holiday. One warning - there are NO elevators. The front desk is on the 2nd floor. Also, I agree with the other reviews, you MUST ask for a room with a window. We decided to look at the hotel a day before we were due to checked in. And of course we were showed the room with no windows. But, because the room was available, the front desk clerk "Clark", upgraded our room to one with a king size bed and a Jacuzzi/Hot Tub. The large room had no chairs. My guest had to sit on the bed. And my room had no internet connection. Other than that, I had a good stay. The hotel ran out of sherry, for the afternoon sherry tasting on our 2nd day. I wanted a room in the main house, but the rooms located across the street in the "M" house are better. Thanks to Clark we enjoyed our weekend.

Windowless and clueless
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/31/07
The house and location are great; however, the staff is lackadaisical at best, inefficient and bordering on the rude at worst. Some rooms are horrendous (would you consider paying over a hundred dollars a night for a window-less room? - yes, no daylight whatsoever!), and the service is plain bad in spite of the occasional great show of calling a taxi for the departing tourists.

No refund
By Barrie, 9/11/06
I had a reservation for one night in Nov. 2005, after Hurricane Katrina. As such, I had paid via credit card a one night deposit. Since the hurricane occured more than 60 days after my CC charge, I could not dispute it. Since then, efforts to contact anyone have been non-productive. I was referred to The Frenchman hotel and got the run-around from them. Was told Lamothe House was getting its computers back, etc. It has been almost a year now, and still no one will talk about Lamothe House and any refunds. Nobody knows anything. I believe that Lamothe House is owned by a holding company in Alabama and the other hotels on the Lamothe House site are also owned by that same company. I would be very reluctant to do business with any of those hotels as their financial policies seem to be very unethical.

Use only credit card for deposit!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/1/06
I had an extremely difficult time getting my deposit back from the management of the Lamothe House and Frenchmen Hotel. It took 8 months, 8 emails and over 18 phone calls from the time I first inquired about the status of my reservation. My reservation was cancelled due to renovations after the hurricane. I certainly would have understood a delay but the people on the phone were constantly rude as if I was wrong to request my money. Each time I spoke to someone they told me a different story and no one would provide the owners name or number. It was finally refunded only when I suggested I would have to take legal action. They were open for business at the Frenchmen for at least 5 months by that time.

Poor business
By Michelle, 2/27/06
We made reservations for 2 rooms at the Lamothe House in New Orleans on July 17, 2005. Their policy requires 10days notice of cancellation regardless of any reason. However, due to damages incurred by Hurricane Katrina, communication was not possible during that time to allow us to cancel. I have continually tried to contact the Lamothe House since, to no avail. I was gracious to their circumstance and have given them ample time to be responsive. Their website (about 3 weeks after Katrina) stated that they apologized for any inconveniences and that refunds would be made. I only saw that posted once on their website and it must have been removed soon thereafter. I have made many phone calls since they have regained service, but have not been able to speak with a live person. I have left many messages on their answering machine, but no response. I consider us to be compassionate individuals, but we have made contributions to the Katrina effort in other ways. We do not consider our reservation deposit as a form of donation.
